  • Thank you so much for posting this video. It was very helpful and you explain very well.

  • Wow. Can excel do this ? Very nice video.

  • Very good tutorial, cheers. However i found that the method of working out the end date, meant that you were discounting the start date. The 1st plus 5 gave the 6th, when it should be the 5th. To counter act this just add another column after the duration called 'Durartion -1' and use a simple sum to minus 1 from the duration, continue as shown but use Duration-1 to calculate end dates. In order to maitain the look of the spreadsheet, right click on the column and click on hide.

  • Thankyou! That tutorial was so easy to follow! You are a life saver!

  • You are my hero! This is exactly what I was searching for. And you also solved my "translating dates into numbers" problem. Thanks a million! :)

  • Great tutorial!

  • Why in some parts of America do they put the date's the wrong way round?

    It's Day/Month/Year (time correspond's)

    Why??? Month/Day/Year??

    So confusing.

  • @Oliverdixon111 Other countries use Month/Day/Year as well, nothing big.

  • thanks for this its really well explained, much better than the other videos on youtube

    Load of thanks...

  • You sir are the man!

  • @dominicmoss

Project is a great program, but a lot of students and businesses don't have this as it is is not a staple with MS Office. Project requires an extra purchase and then extra training. Many businesses will already have Excel and use it regularly. So, if someone can use what they've got without having to buy/learn something extra, I'm all for it.

  • @rrphillips

Quite! That was an unhelpful comment. Most people have Excel. MS Project is quite expensive. A big cost if you only use it occasionally. I found this a nifty little trick.and will use it. ps there is something called OpenProject which is just like MS Project but it's free.

  • @rrphillips Excellent, thank you sir.

  • @dominicmoss

I sugest you visit Open Workbench site: as efficient as MS project, for free!

  • Excellent , Appreciated :)

  • Thanks very much for your video on how to create a gantt chart. Is there a way to include a dynamic vertical "Today" line through this chart to reflect where we stand today in respect to the tasks. i saw your video using the rectangle which does something similar but I need a simple line through the chart. any help/feedback is appreciated. Thanks much in advance.

  • Thanks so much ! Just finished my last minute homework quicker than I expected !

  • Thanks a lot ... like SUPER a lot... becoz of this i can made it in 1 hour .. spent no money to buy software or whatever book needed.. :D Thanks again..

  • Thanks heaps for this video, helped me tremendously!!! Great job!

  • If you are looking for a simple to use, completed gantt chart template for excel 2007 and 2010. Take a look at chartgantt. ChartGantt has developed a solution using conditional formatting that enables instant change of view (day, week, month) and schedules all 4 dependency types.

  • Good job...keep it up...I don't understand why do we have 42 morons who disliked this??

  • @mruddhav

    Definitely agree with you~

  • @mruddhav

they were probably forced to watch this in highschool engineering class like I was...

  • @mruddhav simply because they dont have a clue what theyre watching..bunch of idiots. lol

  • @mruddhav morons has grown to 45 ;P

  • @swapnil1991available lol...You see the number o morons never goes down and hence the world never gets better..:)

  • @mruddhav maybe it was uploader's competitor to vote didlike

  • Awesome video!

  • Very Good instructions - I even followed this using Excel 2007 version. Part of my assignment finished !

  • I know this chart is for projects where a task has one start time or date, and one end time or date. But I'm just curious, and please bear with me, I know it won't make sense, but just think outside the box for a minute: What if I wanted, let's say, task 1 to start and end, then at a later date, start and end again? Basically it would have a gap in the middle. The reason I ask is because I want to apply this method to a schedule with people's availability, so there are gaps for days off.

  • Awesome job! You have saved my assignment!

  • Great job!

  • nicely done

  • Excellent video!!! 5 stars!

  • spelling fail.

  • Thank you Philips, this made making a quick Gantt chart very easy.

  • Nice work , very helpfull !! what can i do if my tasks are not continuous ??? what if my tasks are repeated every weekend?

  • Well Mr. Phillips.. What do I owe ya? THANKS!!!!

  • @Casanuda - I don't know, but I never use it. Just create a formula in another cell "=1*A1" (where A1 is the address of the cell containing the date). Alt, you can just change the cell's number format to "general". HTH.

  • Very very good...it was extremely helpful. Thank you very much

  • i also cannot find it but u may go to format..then click cell.after that, change the date to number..gudluck!!

  • Any chance someone could tell me where the numerical value button is in 2003? I cannot find it.

  • i also cannot find it but you may go to format..click cells..click number..and number..then click ok!

  • Fantastic. Explained well

  • Muchísimas gracias, me sirvió mucho!!!

  • thank you so much, I will try to use that for my Final Project for the Hotelschool The Hague

  • Excellent

  • Thank you for putting this up! It was great help and very easy to understand

  • Hm this is okay. but this doesnt allow easy changes if a project tends to go of limits or you wanna make adjustments

  • It's amazing to see this right after i watched "how to make a gantt in google docs".

They have a plugin that does all this for you automatically plus lets you add the valuable "%complete" colume that colors your progress etc. and you create it in seconds.

  • A brilliant way. Thank you very much.

  • Thnx. I needed to do a project for my mom, and she was pissing me off with this stuff.

I was like omfg I kent do that. D: <

i m gonna ask you a random question...you know how at 1:34 end dates were calculated by itself.. but when i try to do that in excel i get this "value" error.. do you know why i m getting that error ? please reply asap thanks in advance:)

  • hi,

im not entirely sure as I did mine with hours of one day rather than dates.

however i found that when i changed the number formats of the cells, everything got screwed up. keep all of your cells as 'Number' or 'General' under the Number format menu in the Home tab.

When i tried changing mine, everything went wrong till i changed it back

    hope this helps :-)

  • Thanks - very helpful

  • I like your style easy listening...took it all in.... I am doing a construction site management degree asking for Gantt charts.
