  • Woah, that one was perfect.

  • これはかなりクリーンな4Sですね

    すごい!

  • OH MY GOSH. Perfect. She is so pretty...... >:D

  • @lutz84 well a salchow has a half rotation on the ice. So a single is really only a half rotation because the other have of the rotation is made in the ice when the skater's leg swings around to gain momentum. Therefore, a quadruple salchow is really only 3 and a half rotations, not a full 4 rotations. Personally, I think it's just as hard and this was a beautiful jump! Well done to the skater!

  • Where and when was that done?

  • Couldn't check the slow motion, but anyway! she looks sooooo cool !!

  • clean!!!OMG I Can't believe it! perfect rotation!!!

  • wow people really?? cheated by prerotating? HA-HA-HA. go learn some skating. it was a QUAD QUAD QUAD QUAD QUAD QUAD QUAD QUAD QUAD QUAD. yeah, i said it. a QUAD. SALCHOW. with a CORRECT takeoff. yeah maybe a TINY BIT cheated on the end, i dont know, but she WOULD get full credit. so go, haters, LEARN SOME SKATING.

  • @rusicesk8ingirl

It's TRUE! a salchow has a prerotational take off, so it is not cheated. you would not be preforming a correct salchow if you took off from a stand-still. by bending the jumping leg, the skater gains momentum, causing them to turn. this bend would take said skater 1/2 a turn on the ice before the actual jump. everyone does it this way.

  • @2thinkitive um im a little confused if ur agreeing with me or not.. lol

  • @rusicesk8ingirl

lol, yes i AM agreeing with you.

  • not sure what the debate is about ... this was clearly a fully rotated quad sal.

  • Let me explain a bit. A salchow and toeloop are basically a waltz jump, so a double salchow and double toe are basically Axels, etc. The way u turn into the jump is what makes it the Axel basis. On a salchow, u r backwards, turning forwards on the back edge, as u turn before u take off, ur free leg comes around, making the lift into the air just like an Axel. That's why the skaters can do quad sal and toe, but not as much loop. They can do a triple Axel if they can do a quad sal or toe.

  • @julianaqtpi no they are not. thay toe loop and salcow are like 3/4 rotation. so its not an axel

  • @247videos247 Actually, once you get into double salchows and toeloops, you learn that its only 1 1/2 rotations. so therefore a single is 1/2, most people just rush through the jump when its a single and don't realize its just a half rotation.

  • @247videos247 ya but they are still not actuall full rotations. so either way you put it its still not an actaull double

  • SO FAST only looked like 2

  • i watched this several times and i still only see a triple. am i just going crazy?

  • @benrobinson77

    I can understand your feeling.

Even Midori Ito once couldn't recognize her quad.

Miki's quad resembles Kevin Reynolds' one.

They don't have much height but compensate it with efficient rotation.

  • @Koinyanogotosi by the time she get both feet off the ice she's already done half a rotation. so she takes off facing forward like an axle taking off with 2 feet. i may not know what im talking about because i was a gymnast, not a skater. i know in gymnastics they would take off for it.

  • @benrobinson77

A salchow is a weird jump: one of the easiest to double. The rotation in a double is really only 1 and 1/2, rather than a full 2. The salchow has a prerotational take off; bending the jumping leg gains momentum, causing the skate to turn. This bend would take said skater 1/2 a turn ON THE ICE before the actual jump. That also means that a quad salchow is NOT a true quad, but a 3 and 1/2 rotational jump. Just as hard, if you ask me.

Oh, and P.S. I was a gymnast too. it means NADA

  • Beautiful!!! If she could do this consistently or perhaps in combination, she could out muscle any woman figure skater out there.

  • Cool junp

  • its CLEAN!

  • she needs to bust this out in the olympics if she wants gold.

  • who's better Ando Mike or Mao Asada

  • この回転速度は・・・高さが無くても4回転が飛べるのか

  • i think she should try triple axel.. because usually, her quad is slightly underotated.

  • ちょww男子並みww

  • Beautiful! Ando achieved what Cohen tried to so many years ago with her shaky quad (good on Sasha for trying though).

I hope Ando goes for quad at the Games!

  • her shirst too short!

  • Awesome ! 5 stars !

  • that was beautiful.

  • I love Miki, Mao and Shizuka! They are the three most wonderful Japanese figure skaters...... I also love Mai(Mao's equally fabulous figure skating sister!)

  • they were trying that like 2 3 years ago

    not now

  • I want so much to see it in the Olys.

  • <3 Love the Quad <3

<3 Ain't gotta a clue what the guy's saying but love the commentary <3

  • She's awesome. She's the first female to land a quad in competition. I think she's aiming to try this again.

    Miki is simply amazing.

  • すげえ・・・

  • me encanto!!! es una genia!!!

  • this is so amazing! brilliant!

  • amazing

  • Me too!

  • That was really really well done! Beautiful execution. Wish I could do that! I can barely hit a triple!

  • i cant even do an axel yet, but ive only been in ice skaing for one month and i can do a toe loop, waltz jump, and ballet jump

  • wow, enough height and rotation and all that:)

  • that was incredible. Is ti posible to do a salchow in rect line and not in curve.?

  • 超棒我愛安藤美姬!!

  • And they said that Shizuka intentionally cheated in her jumps. I think NOT. The same should also be applied to the distortion that Miki cheated on her quads. Shizuka was doing about 37 jumps in the row and I couldn't imagine this brave young woman doing 37! If I tried doing what Shizuka did, I would have been limping down to the hospital in seconds!

  • so gorgeous. she even puts artistry in and out of the jump

  • AND LOOK AT THE RUNNING EDGE AT THE END!

  • Beautiful jump! This is just a question: I notice that the take-off seems double-footed, is that permitted in a salchow? Again, it's difficult to see clearly from the video but it looks like the free foot pushes off the ice.

  • it isnt in this video. but your allowed to do it. shizuka does that, she uses her edge to push herself up

  • yes you are allowed to do it, but it's not a true salchow because the original version does not have two-footed technique.

  • omg that's so beautiful!! why can't Miki do better in competition!?? I mean she won the worlds in 2007 so it proves she can be great, but nearly every other competition she's not so good. I wish she could do her quad in competition, make it more close and exciting! now it's just between Mao and Yu-Na every time, and I love them both but the gap is too big between them and the other top skaters right now. will Miki still be skating for 2009???

  • yesss. isnt she gorgeous?

  • In competition she gets nervous and doesn't carry enough speed into it.

  • oh i know, its sad cause i know she can do it!

  • nice!!! really nice!!!

  • wow she makes it look easy lol that was awesome!

  • jz shez goood

  • she is amazing

  • wow a quadruple! thats amazing! like im only on my double axcel! wow..asians are ment to skate:)

  • me too! i've only been working on it for like 2 weeks tho. how's urs? got any tips for me!

  • lol i'd think the biggest problem i have is crossing my feet and when you take off in the harnest or on yourself just keep your body narrow! i had big problems and dont forget to land! i sometimes keep spinning and i fail haha

  • my problem is height, it's kinda scary taking off, dont ya think? but i think the triple sal is sooooooooooooo much easier, have u started that yet?

  • height really? i have no problems with height, but you no what? i truthfully am really scared to fall. but i have myself my butt pads and knee pads and i wear them over my tights so i look like a gay transformer! haha i bet people laugh at my secretly, but its alright haha. and yes i have started my triple sal, but only had about 2 lessons on it so i probably am only on the walk through type of stage.

  • well you dont really cross your feet. you get so much power you feet cross. one time my skates got caught and u fekk flat on my face. i got a black eye.lol.

  • no...i can do an axcel without crossing my feet, and i have alot of power..

i sometimes cross my feet if my head goes last and i put my right foot down fast.. i dont think your feet cross because you "get so much power"

  • That was So good. okay, so im looking at a real person rite? Okay, that was beautiful! I can only wish to be like her!

  • hey! it was really quadruple!

  • all jumps are prerotated and many are what some here are calling "underrotated." the more revolutions attempted in a jump, there tends to be progressively more rotation completed on the ice. Sorry to disappoint anyone out there who thought a quad was 1440º of roatation in the air.

  • Well said! I was getting quite annoyed by people who incessantly claim the combinations that have a 3-loop in the end (Mao, Miki, Ashley Wagner) are "underrotated" and should not be fully credited when its pretty obvious that the loop requires a significant amount of prerotation before taking the ice.

  • Fully agreed! Call them on the cheated landings for sure but enough of this prerotation garbage.

  • Hasn't anybody seen the technical study on the number of actual rotations completed in a jump versus it's actual called name, double, triple, quad, etc? I believe Cathy Casey had something to do with it and it was published in Skating Magazine several years ago.

  • I bet Cathy Casey is a tougher than hell coach. She's made some fine skaters.

  • miki is the best figure skater ever

  • good job Ando. she made history.

  • That was a quad and no it was not underrotated a 1/6. Who even posted that has no idea what they are talking about.

  • Watch the position/angle of her foot from when she took of to when she landed. It is not a full four revolutions (1440 degrees). It is really effing close, but not all the way. When it comes to calling a jump fully rotated, I was always taught that it has to be rotated ALL THE WAY to be considered clean. Who knows, I might be wrong. I am just going off what I was taught, but do not say I do not know what I am talking about.

  • Really darn close to a quad (she cheated by 1/6 a rotation.) Oh yeah, I have been a figure skater for 16 years, so do not tell me I do not know what I am talking about...

  • anything under a 1/4 is consitered clean in ice skating, roller has higher stadards but she does skate on ice.

  • roller skating shuld not even b able to b called a sport ice skating has WAY HIGHER STANDARDS i mean if u fall its like ur already put in 3rd place trust me i am a figure skater and i know wat that feels like except i came out 2nd

  • Didn't Asda leave out a required jump in her short and still come in 2nd. That would never happen in Roller. Plus Roller Pairs is much more exciting than ice, check out McGrew and Jerue awesome roller team much better than any ice team.

  • Wow, great attempt. Looked really easy here. It's deceiving though because for every one of her attempts that look this good, she probably under-rotates and/or falls on about 20 others. The quad salchow is ridiculously hard.

  • Whats that song playing in the background?

  • good but it was a atriple not quadruple no offense

  • It is quad

  • nope! Quad :) if there's like a 1/8 cheat don't be so bloody stingy

  • Definately quad.

  • You're right, this is a triple. Count the number of times her head goes around--just 3.

  • no no no... she really lands quad jumps. She's even the first one in ladies' compitition to do that. and her head spins 4 times, including her landing

  • the closest among all her "quads" ....

  • wow that was a good one!
