I loved Pina and her loss to the dance world is very sad. You danced with Forsythe, so obviously I must retract my statement regarding you not knowing about contemporary dance. I do love the newer more cutting edge choreographers. Mats Ek is a favorite (not really new) along with Aszure Barton who pretty much blows me away. There are many others I love too. I have rather eclectic taste. I have seen other pieces of Jormas and I just loved this. It hit me right in the gut. Very visceral.
However you have the freedom of expressing yourself about art ,it's just a shame that you judge so quickly about something you haven't even seen in live.
Jorma Elo is the most successful and wanted choreographer right now, there must be something that captures to the audience. If I may give you an advice don't judge to quickly about something that you don't really know anything about (In other words your "cup of tea" is getting stale.)
@sabee1980 I am proud if I sound like my own parents to be honest. A great choreogpraher once said to me. never trust and audience. and i think it is true. I dont care how sucessful someone is. that has nothing to do with taste talent or genius. You are correct in saying maybe i should not be so quick to judge. But from what I see here and I have heard of his work , from friends in the states that I trust there opinion. I put the two together and made a quick judgment.
@sabee1980 And also why is this video on here. To enitice a potential public to come see it. On that critical level it did not. at 42 seconds already i am starting to feel something kind of bad is gonna come and it does. a one hand hand stand. now that is stale sweety darling
You apparently have little knowledge of contemporary ballet. I find Jorma Elo's work is breath taking. In regards to reflecting the intensity of the music, I can only wonder if you were watching the same piece I was. My guess is that this is in your "third stream". Not something you can relate to. Sort of the way the many of the public first looked at the works of van Gogh. They didn't understand it. Some people like paintings of clowns on velvet and others like Jackson Pollack.
@lmaty1 hey mate. actually i was a principal dancer with William Forsythe for twenty years. and have choreogrpahed myself around the world. am teacher at pina bausch company and many others. so sorry i do have alot of knowlege about contemporary ballet. and yes we are watching the same piece.
tell me who u like as a choreogrpaher and maybe that gives me more of an idea of your taste.
also of course not every choreogrpaher makes a great piece.
I just heard that Boston will perform this in Ottawa. Lucky Canadians. I still love this piece. Was wondering if there were any videos of Elo's Plan to B, another of my favorites?
You may have read negative reviews, but don't believe everything you read. This piece is awesome, as are the dancers in it - some of my favorite dancers at Boston Ballet.
I should mention that I worked for NYCB some years back.

@toeknee1965 You ar funny! I am actually dancing in this piece on the video so it's nice to hear your opinion. Thank you for being honest.
Like I said you have the right to express whatever you feel I am not going to convince you I am a dancer not a critic.

yeah i love what I've seen of Melissa Hough and I in general enjoy Elo, the reviews have just been so miserable for this ballet, it's interesting.
