if the olympic stadium was downtown then the expos would still be alive. no attendance because of a stadium designed for every purpose except baseball in an unpopular part of town. there was supposed to be a new stadium two blocks south of the bell centre, but the province didn't put money into it and now condos are on the lot instead
The MLB worked with the owners to move the team out... If this was an american city, MLB is giving it money to survive. MLB did dick all to help the expos, so players were willling to take pay cuts to stay... instead its the fucking biggest joke in the MLB.
the Nats are an eye sore, they should move to Halifax, leave "nats park", and go to halifax and move into a 10000 seater with orange and blue seats, with a retractable tin roof and cardboard walls... and stil that would my preffered space over washington.
What also makes them a joke is thier slogan is "Natstown". yeah, a city with a million people can only get 15,000 to the park a night, thats a united fan base? trying to copy something like "Red Sox Nation"... fuck Bud Selig, MLB, and the owners that got the expos out.
people had to give up on them just because they had loseing seasons if fans just went to c them and cheer for them and made sigens stay in montreal refuese to leave

more than what they are today, the washington nationals? really?
surely you're kidding, or you don't know your baseball history. Montreal had a great tradition, but with the economy going bad between 1995 and 2004 (worse than now with the loonie at 85 ¢ US today!) it couldn't afford those fat cats that made the game what it is today.
you wanna know what sucked for the expos, in 1994, they were one of the best teams in the league and probably could have made it to atleast the nlds, but of course, the strike shortened the season
Screw the yankees, Red Sox and jays! When all the morons who kicked baseball out of Montreal are all gone and the game will finally be cleaned up, then perhaps my city may get another shot at the Big Leagues (hey, Washington adopted our expos, maybe in another 30 years it could be our turn???) In the meantime my favorite team in the NL is the one with the most world championships after those damn yankees. Look it up!
I still miss the Expos - and wish they were still here in Montreal. Do any of you other Expo fans get the same stupid question I do? It goes, "Oh, you must root for the Nationals now, right?" Usually, I ask them what their favorite team is (usually the Yanks or Red Sox). Then I ask them, if they moved your team to say...Topeka, Kansas, would it still be your favorite team. "No. Of course not - that would be stupid". Does anyone else have this conversation?
with the grand prix gone for good now the stupid montrealers who boycotted the expos for so many years can regret it even more. The city wanted to give grand prix owner a shit loads of money to retain it, why not spend that money on a ballpark and get a team back to the city!

yea but at least it's better than 4,000 attendance. That is fucking pathetic. An absolute disgrace to professional sports. You fucking canadiens dont ever deserve a sports team and you Montreal shits dont deserve to complain at all.
with good ownership and a competitive team they would have been fine, it's a shame really...a smaller downtown park...and the ability to keep the young stars might have saved them.
If you've been living under a rock, Montreal LOVED the Expos..its just that Major League Baseball screwed them over bigtime. Montreal would have fans sell out the damn stadium in the 1970's and 1980's. And Montreal produced a hall of famer in Gary Carter and soon to be Andre "the Hawk" Dawson.

No.
In 36 years, the Expos attendance were only in the MLB average SIX time. I'm from Montreal and I'm the first to admit that nobody cared about the team for 30 years.
true, and they're gone for that reason now. In hockey it's the same in some american cities. NY islanders get less attendance than Québec Remparts in Quebec Major Junior Hockey league. NY islanders get between 8000 and 11000 fans per game and Remparts can get in the 15000s sometimes. It was the same for Halifax Mooseheads of the same league a few years ago. A normal QMJHL team have 2000-4000 and a NHL team 16000-20000.
they did in 94 the baseball strike running them with lots of fans to haley any fans the expos could of made it to the world series in 94 but after the 94 strike they had trubble winning games in 81 they had alot of fans ik they had alot of fans until after the 1994 season i read all of that online so ik what i taking about

Because Quebec Has Been The Butt Of Many A Joke Both In Canada & The United States, Because Quebecers Speak French, Because The Steriotypical Quebecer Male Is Metrosexual & Female Is A Loose Woman. When I As A American Take Up For Quebecers And Spit On Those Steriotypes. I Love The Expos Because They Were Quebecs Team, Not Canada's. I Love The Habs Because There Quebecs Team, Not Canada's. Canada Don't Even Love Quebec, They Want Them Out On Their Own. VIVE LE QUEBEC.

VIVE LES EXPOS!!!!
Our boys of summer have been gone 3 years now, & this city has a big hole in its soul. Very little vision left in this city. They even stopped a Cirque du Soleil project from being built. The Main has lost much of its old glory. Streets in such pitiful condition, your car feels like a roller coaster. Bagels, smoked meat (less Ben's), & the old port can't replace baseball. As a native Montrealer, never thought I'd say this but Toronto is starting to look better. GO EXPOS FOREVER!!
