There are more than 100 verses in the Qur'an advocating the use of violence to spread Islam. In the Qur'an, Allah commands Muslims, 'Take not the Jews and Christians as friends....Slay the idolaters [non-Muslims] wherever ye find them.... Fight against such...as believe not in Allah...' As A born Cdn I really dislike hearing of this. Once upon a time religion never treaded upon politics - Politicians ran for reasons of a good neighbourhood which may have meant, for example: reasons for a child playground, in a nearby non-child building. YIKES now Politicians and Cdn politics involve religion - ahhh....I thought that the two were separate entities altogether!

@chrisulloa religion isn't just being part of a group, religion should be a way of life. a true jew, muslim or christian should centre their life around Judaism, islam or christianity. religion is a code of conducted through which you live your life through, if you are religious, then you should try and be religious 24/7. i seriously don't see the problem with involving religion with politics if the decision doesn't harm a particular people.

You can't do that. The Qu'ran says that you are to take the words that it contains in their entirety or you are not to call yourself Muslim. Unlike other holy books the Qu'ran is a literal document; you don't get parables, stories, acts unrelated to God but that have a moral anyway, you get THE word of God so you must accept it in it's entirety.
You don't get to pick and choose what you like and pretend that the rest doesn't exist.

Most Muslims are as ignorant to the tennets of their faith as the Christian who hates his neighbour but says grace. The Qu'ran promotes violence and exclusion, choosing not to read those parts doesn't make them cease to exist.

Jewish and Catholic Tribunals in Canada are not binding, they must be in conjunction with civil courts. This is not a problem because the groups in question already follow the ten basic rules that were the starting point for much of democratic secular law.
When my Grandparents divorced in a civil court they also had the issue addressed by the RCC, but only the civil decision was binding.
Sharia cannot operate in the same manner because it is too far removed from our current laws.

Also University communities are considerably wealthy and arrogant. They do not feel the need of a God. Yet the less wealthy communities feel they need a God in their lives. Most of the people that followed the Prophets were from the less wealthy communities while the upper class would prosecute them.
