The only reason why I am biased towards the American tracks is because THAT is what I grew up with. It sticks to you in a way that listening to the other arrangement never will.
Oh hey, I just noticed on the cover... It's Sonic breaking one of those special stage ufos and holding a time stone... Isn't it wonderful when you pay attention?! :D
@Tirgo69 Are you kidding? When I heard this for the first time at my aunts house in circa 90's I was awe stricken. Spencer Nilsen is a fantastic composer.
My opinion, this appeals more to being like starlight zone in sonic 1 in that they're that are suppose to be calm and by coincidence have the word "star" in their titles.
Why is everyone always hatin' on the US version? Both soundtracks are master works to one of the greatest Sonic games ever devised! Why can't people just accept that? It's just one of those battles that will never be settled.
I agree. It's probably the most pointless debate since Blu-Ray vs. DVD-HD. Fact is, there are some songs that are better on one version than the other. Ex: I like Collision Chaos, Stardust Speedway, Metallic Madness and the boss songs better on the JAP/EU version while I enjoy the US version of Palmtree Panic, Tidal Tempest, Wacky Workbench and the theme songs even more.
Blame Sega for making a dumb decision to change the music. Unless you read Gamefan back in the day, you wouldn't know that the soundtrack changed until Sonic Jam was released.
Sega thought that the JP/EU music sounded like J-Pop music--it wouldn't appeal to American musical tastes. That's bullcrap. The music is more reminiscent of dance music from the late 80s and early 90s. IT'S ANYTHING BUT J-POP MUSIC! Why do you think Europe got it?
Sega: Dividing the Sonic Fanbase since 1993! (^_^)b
This music makes me think of driving on Manhattan's FDR Drive at night below the Q'Boro Bridge and the U.N. complex. Which I did in December of 1994, and what a sight it is at night. It is so fantastic and surreal - like being a video game - providing no bumper to bumper traffic!!! A great sight in NYC is being on the FDR Drive at NIGHT!
Way better than the Japanese

True. They both sounded nice, but I'm partial to the funky tune in the Japanese and European versions.

@Pageboy72 Because the US version has some tracks which were probably inspired by nightmares...
