Somebody needs to bring these old kid movies back... not as in remakes or sequels, but in spiritual successors. The atmosphere and practical effects, and most importantly, the storytelling and accessibility. The children's movies that were sincere, dark but not overly so, and imaginative. Movies that everyone of all ages can enjoy.

It would be a great change from the current trend where snotty kids punish the most obnoxious idiots in the world all the time.

I was born in 1978 and was roughly 6 when this film was released and I'll argue there will never be a better childhood fantasy film produced. This film is legendary and is underscored by many. Such a great film score soundtrack. Everything about is amazing for its time and I will always be thankful for Germany's brialliance behind this cinema gem!!
