  • HEY THOSE RUINS WOUDL BE NEW CONSTRUCTIONS AT THE TYME OF AKILES, HAAAAAAAHAHAHAHA...

THE STUPID PRODUCTOR SMOKED CRACK OR WHAT?

  • yo brad, angelina wants her dress back

  • How come the music from the beginning of this clip wasn't on the soundtrack?! It's my favorite part!!

  • One movie where Sean Bean character is the one that actualy doesnt die!

  • gotta be one of the only films Sean Bean doesn't die in :P

  • What potato did u post this with?

  • "It is not disrespect to say that a dead man; is dead". My favorite quote from the movie. Odysseus could handle himself with words the way Achilles did with his sword.

  • how does zues turn into odysseus o.O

  • I love how all these people are aurguing about homos and randomly one person like "Garrett hedlund is hot!!" lol that's classy not classic!!!!!!!

  • CAN YOU PUT THE SECNE UP WITH THEM WHEN HE ACHILLES AKSED WAS HE READY TO GO TO WAR

  • Oddyeseus sure looked different in the Oddyssey xD because the movies were made by different people

  • Comment removed

  • WOW! A movie where Sean Bean doesn't die? Miraculous!

  • @Slaushster haha i figured the same thing :P that guy literally dies in every movie xD

  • Garrett Hedlund is so hot

  • "You taught me never to change sword hands."

"Yes. When you know how to use it - you won't be taking my orders."

After reading the Illead thorougly... well... let's just say I agree with the top comment x)

  • too bad they cut out most of the scenes inviolving odysseus. sean bean did a good job....and he didn't die.

  • Comment removed

  • Bad movie, great cast.

  • Leave it to Hollywood to cut out the real stuff. Achilles and Patroclus had a bond that transcended the modern concept of friendship but was not what we know as homosexuality in modern day. There was more to their relationship though.

  • OMG!! garrett hedlund is much more hotter when he has a long hair!!! so hot!!! anyways brad pitt is EXTREMELY HANDSOME!!!

  • @dramione4ever23 HE'S A FAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGGGG

  • 1:46 he is such a good warrior he hugs his sword like a baby

  • still the best Greek legend movie, since 2004.

  • n1 knows the name of the theme of the fight ?

  • We all get the feeling that all Odysseus had to say was "This war will never be forgotten" and Achilles would have come.

  • When the man are mans!

    I miss it!

  • Why is everyone so upset it's not like the poem? Is it hard to understand why and get it over with?

The main problem with Greek legends is "deus ex machina". The Gods controlled everything and you were basically at their mercy. It would be a boring movie had they followed the poem word by word.

  • @Psycho3418 Deus ex machina was from the tragedies and not the epic poems. The gods truly have a major role in the Iliad but the mortals are not at their mercy. There is the so-called double procession, which means that an action can be attributed both to a god and a mortal.

I quite liked the rationalisation and the expulsion of the gods, but I disliked some decisions they did: Menelaus' death, Paris and Helen's escape, Agamemnon's death etc

  • @Psycho3418 ever seen the Odyssey (movie)? that movie follows the Odyssey more closely, with the Gods being involved in it and everything and I would say that even though that movie is older than Troy is still a way better movie, this movie just spits on the Iliad and the Aeneid.

  • @Giwrgos123yo is right, this is not how it trully happened, actually achilles doesn`t enter Troy, he dies after he killed Hector, Menelaos doesn't die in the fight with Paris, Paris is killed and Helen marries Deiphobos (the brother of Hector and Paris) and after his death she returns with Menelaos in Sparta, although this is a good movie, and i loved watching it but it is not the best movie from the historical view.

  • LOOK GUYS I AM A GREEK AND I TELL U THAT THIS MOVIE ok it's good but it's not the real one!things weren't this way! omg fck what have they done to our history!

  • what`s the name of the soundtrach in that part of the movie ? PLEASE, answer me !

  • well in the iliad didnt achilles hate odysseus

  • @hugwhoreprincess I dont think he hated him, Achilles respected him! They were not friends, but they respected one another. Obviously Odysseus was weaker and afraid of him, but In the Iliad Odysseus often puts Achilles right, and yeah that did annoy him at times.

  • to bad for Odysseus after the trojan war his gotta go trough a lot of shit

  • @Reyez623 10 years of shit

  • @Reyez623 Would be cool if they made a sequel showing that

  • How its called the sword fight style Achilles is using in the movie?

  • Why do they always make things so corny, andwhy are all the characters always so fucking arrogant and ridiculous? Why not try and make a good movie for once.

  • Are the weapons made of wood? Sounds like it. I wonder if that was what was used back then or was it for the movie.

  • @bluefirecrest They trained with wooden swords that weighed about the same as regular swords so they wouldn't get injured but would be ready for battle. :3

  • Boromir up dis bitch, woop.

  • I love how he flips the spear up with his foot, flips it and flings it straight into that tree all in one smooth fluid motion.

  • "Guard the ship" is Ancient Greek for "Stay in the car".

  • @dsemTube but they never do))

  • @dsemTube hhahahahaa XD

  • which one is garrett hedlund?? is he in the black suit or the blue one??

  • @AlysoN654 Garrett Hedlund is the man/boy in black. The man in blue is Brad Pitt.! What do you live in a cave?:p

  • @Imiloaheh i cant tell who is who with all tha extra long hair on there head :P no i live in an igloo

  • What's the name of soundtrack at the beginning? I searched in the OST, but I didn't find it.

  • How do you say that any hairstyle is Achilles in the movie...? :)

  • wow a movie scene without a different song.........thank you jazmin :)

  • BOROMIR!! That voice... Brad Pitt can piss off

  • @OceanCity619

    yes

  • @OceanCity619 yea in the movie they have achilles as being patroclus older cousin...in the books ive read, its patroclus who is the older friend of achilles

  • what is the name of the song thats playing

  • Who cares if Patroclus was cousin or friend? It was common and accepted back then for an adult male to take on a younger male (typically a teenager) and teach the younger guy while also having sexual relations with the younger male. Neither was considered gay, and in fact, it was an honor to learn from a master (like Achilles would have been).

  • @iamnotdikkie fact is...achilles was younger

  • anyone reminded of the black knight scene from Monty python

  • patroclus wasn't achilleses cousin,he was his lover

  • @HerasBoss nope he was a close friend......a lot of stuff got mixed when they wanted to translate it to latin

  • @HerasBoss ,

No, patroclus was the two things: cousin and lover. (Iliada)

  • I LOVE THIS FILM BECAUSE SEAN BEAN DOES NOT DIE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @MikailaBaggins is that Borromear or is it the general in 300?

  • @bradhuygens haha! Funny you asked because Odysseus is played by the same actor that played Boromir (Sean Bean) who was the brother of Faramir (David Wenham). It was David who portrayed the general/spartan storyteller in 300. Does that make any sense? Sorry if I made it more confusing :/

  • @LittlePixieGreen no i get that completely xD.

  • @MikailaBaggins ahaha yeah he ALWAYS dies its so bad.

  • Comment removed

  • ohhh garrett

  • it's fantastic.hats off to brad pitt.....

  • What the hell?

    1. They look like they're dancing, not fighting. Choreography that's supposed to be fighting shouldn't look like dancing. That's bad.

    2. The "achilles with the women" story should have been here INSTEAD of this scene, not in addition to it! Have you ever read the illiad? Replacing stuff doesn't make the movie longer. See how that works? Replace. Not add. Stupid.

    3. Holywood movies sometimes show people getting dirty, so your comment is stupid.

  • 1. Bad choreography.

    2. Skipped the chance to do the "achilles was hiding among the women" story

    3. Everything is too pretty and clean

    4. Bad camera work (weird push-ins, JC Penny catalog glamour shots)

    5. Choppy dialog, characters announcing their stance rather than talking like normal people

  • This movie is chock full of hot men. Garrett Hedlund, Brad Bitt, Orlando Bloom, Eric Bana. It's so overwhelming.

  • it's spelled Patroklos

  • @sabyome It really depends on the translation of the Iliad you read. The movie makers spelled it "Patroclus", not a big deal or anything, just thought oyu might want to know...

  • This movie wasnt about Achilles. It was about Brad Pitt!!

  • There are so many things wrong with this scene. First, there in Ancient Greece. Yes, so why are they fighting in GREEK RUINS !!. Second, Both of Patroclus's parents are ALIVE !!!!!, Thirdly, Patroclus is NOT Achilles' Cousin. Sean Bean is a legend though :L

  • Achillies: "You can be my wingman any time." Patroclus: "Bullshit. You can be mine!" ...how the movie should have ended.

  • sean bean, brad pitt and garrett hedlund

    OH GOD YES

  • @radheaven Hmmmm Hmmm

  • anyone else think patroclus looks like nicky hilton? i think that everytime i watch this film, i know he's a man and all but then again she has a strong jaw lol

  • @DebbieHarryxxx LMAO

  • Gah...Garrett Hedlund *drools*

  • CAN SOME1 TELL ME IF ACHILLES WERE GAY OR NOT??? according to the ancient writters nd not movies or wikpedia !!!

  • @Gingie4life i dnt know about the hollywood movies but in greek history no he WASNT GAY even in the movie does it look like he is gay in the beggining?

  • @Gingie4life Achilles wasn't gay.. In the 'Symposium' of Plato, Achilles and Patroclus were refered as lovers but the word 'lover' had completely different meaning so they weren't gay..Actually in the Iliad , Achilles was in love with Briseis..They were very good friends and they loved each other.. there some people though who say that they were gay :@@ I don't believe it though !

  • @alyctus Read the Iliad man, Achilleus was never in love with Briseis - she was a slave girl he never even spoke to directly, he wanted her because Agammemnon took her from him after he had to give back his slave girl because of the plague it brought on the greeks (iliad page one)

...as for homosexual romance between Achilleus and Patroclus, that's still a matter of critical argument. One thing is certain: they weren't cousins and Patroclus was older than Achilleus

  • @thejokerlondon I have read the Iliad and I'm Greek.. Gingie4life asked if Achilles was gay according to the ancient writers..In the Iliad, Achilles was offended because Agamemnon took his slave but in the rhapsody A at 349-431 Achilles was crying because of that and his mother Thetis was trying to comfort him.. I was taught that he loved her and the fact that he was crying means something... Achilles and Patroclus were friends but there are some people who say they were something more..

  • @Gingie4life he wasnt...but gays try to convince us that all important men of history and myths were gay :)

  • @aperantos13 Not really. There is evidence that they were lovers like in a tragedy from Aeschylus, but there is also evidence that they were just friends. It is an ongoing debate in literature. Remember that it was common and socially acceptable in Greece at their time to engage in homosexual relationships. I'm not saying your wrong or someone else is right, just that it is a controversial subject that we will probably never get a definite answer to.

  • @sinfulseraph6 i dont think so....there were death penalties in ancient greece for gays. This theory has its roots in a translation mistake. In ancient greece the word "erwmenos" (which in english means lover) meant "companion, friend". So basically whenever they saw this word they thought it meant lover. The homosexuals were hunt in ancient greece..its pretty obvious from the greek laws and sources.Lastly there is no proof for that!you cant just say something without supporting it!

  • in hollywood/usa achillies and patroclus were gay.According to hollywood everyone is gay except you..so think whos the true gay?

  • when i first saw Troy I never knew that Patroclus was played by Garrett Hedlund

  • wow i didn't know I've seen Garrett Hedlund already

  • -3 Garrett Hedlund -3

  • the best movie EVER!!!

  • "my wife will feel much better if she knows you'll be by my side, I'll feel much better...... no homo."

  • @Wcds11 Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha!!!!!!!!

  • Odysseus :salute: A real man. Smart, resourceful and a decent warrior to boot. I dare say I like him more than Hector or Achilles.

  • @giantrobots1122 but he is described as the devil in iliaden, he got a sharp tongue.

  • @Starshina89 In what sense? Hes good at insulting people or deceiving them or both? Either one isn't exactly the worst trait in the world.

But I haven't read the Illiad yet to be quite honest. So thanks for telling me that.

  • i love garrett <3

  • i friggin h8 the part wen patroclus dies.....gerret hedlund is my favorite actor..........

  • @Vampiregirl228 I thought it was Garrett?

  • funny thing is according to the stories Achilles and Patroclus often play with each other's swords...

    you get me...

  • @ehcastro3 i think everyone had such rumours around at those times.

  • @ehcastro3 there is nowhere written by anyone that they were gay....you better read Hellenic historics and authentics books of history..stupid....

  • @ehcastro3 they play with the toys the gods gave them

  • @ehcastro3 Made me lol.

  • @ehcastro3 DICK?

  • @ehcastro3

The Iliad says NOTHING about that. I would know, I took a class in it

  • @spiritmartyr009 No, it is true that Patroclus and Achilles likely had the type of relationship lovers would have. Yes it isn't written down in black and white, but if your teacher said they were not lovers like that, I have to say he is wrong friend.

  • @easyto May I learn how you concluded that they had the relationship that lovers have? Do you base these opinions on the Iliad or on something else? Can you tell me a verse where it is said or implied that they were lovers?

Note: I don't deny the existence of homo love in the classical age or whatever, I just believe that the Iliad says nothing about Achilles and Patroclus having this kind of relationship. E.g. in the Iliad they'e called hetairoi (ἑταῖροι), a social-political-military term etc

  • @Lhein33 I've taken multiple classics/mythology courses in my program with a man who has his doctorate in it, and I did propose the question while reading the Iliad and his response was an immediate "Oh most likely, most likely." I know people can get ridiculous in comment sections, and I'm not trying to do that. But I think the odds are the two were lovers man.

  • @easyto Since I cannot take the same courses, I cannot see if your teacher is right or not. And, as far as I understood, your teacher didn't provide any evidence to you either.

I've read the Iliad and I admit I cannot find any indication about that in there. Plato and some other writers indeed interpreted their relationship thus, but it's usual for someone to interpret a text to support his opinions

If someone wants to proove something, he has to give quotes and passages. Can you do that?

  • @Lhein33 I cannot, but I also know the entire "Achilles dies after Paris nails him in the heel" bit is not in the Iliad, it's been passed down orally. Everyone accepts this though. It's not concrete sure, but ODDS ARE Achilles and Patroclus were lovers. Why is this so horrible?

  • @easyto Achilles' death is not oral tradition, the works in which it was described are lost, but there are references and analyses about it in a lot of other works.

I didn't say that it is horrible, stop saying things about racism etc (if this what you imply). I just want the truth. Our talk is about the Iliad and not generally about the ancient tradition. The Iliad says or implies nothing like that; I can't see what the odds are.

  • @easyto Why were they portrayed as 'cousins'? It's so silly

  • Why'd achilles have to die :(

  • boromire!!!

  • at 0:12 what he really wants to do?

He just wants to scratch his back or wants to put his sword into the scabbard :))

  • Achelles never insulted Greece. He just didn't like Agamemnon.

  • wheres all the movie!? :(

  • yeah in the illiada achiles and patroclus are lovers but im not sure if they are cousin i read they are friends and lovers only

  • sean bean its ulises isnt ???

  • Does anyone know the name of the music from 0:00-1:10??

  • @101Adelaide Unfortunately its a piece of music that never made it into the soundtrack that was released. Tragic! this should have been expanded into a full blown 6-10min piece in my opinion..

  • @V3Visuals Exactly- this is my favourite scene in the entire film and that's partly because I love the music :( It's a shame...

  • i love sean bean, never forgot that name ever since goldeneye came out

  • Ohhhh snap!

  • Sean Bean is awesome. He needs to be in more movies. Every part he plays comes off excellent. You can tell the dude has natural charisma.

  • Damn, the western film industry just rewrote the whole story:

    1. Achilles and Partoclus weren't cousins, but friends and lovers.

    2. According to the real story, Achilles was also in love with the youngest prince of troy, and followed him to the Temple of Apollo trying to make him give in to his caresses LOL, and that's the reason (Entering the temple) that the gods turned their back on the Greek.

Can't the western world take some homosexuals?! Jeez!

    (No I'm not a guy, I'm a girl)

  • @TooyaRima ,

Not "real story" and yes acoording with Homero and Iliada. And yes, Achilles and Patroclus were cousins AND lovers.

  • @TooyaRima

Sadly, you are a victim of propaganda...

  • @TooyaRima Your general statement at the end alarms me. Technically it's hollywood that does that, besides they was some gay action in Alexander (the Great 2004). The west is full of gays! (No, I'm not gay, I'm a dude tho)

  • @TooyaRima

    really?

To answer u question no we can't and its only because majority has always ruled.seeing that the majority in America just so happens not to be gay it would make watching the movie a lil awkward.Further more brad pitt has stated that he will never play a homosexual,so if they made achilles a homosexual brad pitt wouldn't have played him it would have ruined his whole tough guy thing thus ruining the movie. So if you don't like the way we make movies stop watching them.

  • @TooyaRima who told u faggot that the real story says that achilles was i love with paris? are you silly? read some books and then say whatever u want...uneducated moster...

  • @benandjohnnyfans yeah if u acually read the true story of troy. Achilles and "his cusin" where really gay lovers.

  • we dont know if they were lovers or not. In the books its not clear thats why its still debated. The reason for this is that there were 2 kinds of love and lovers in ancient greece, the sexual and the non sexual one(today we call it platonic love). There were many occasions of platonic love. One of the few proved sexual relationship between men is the sacred band of Thebes leaded by Pelopidas who ironicly were the 1st who defeated and destroyed the spartans.

  • @dimalex8

after Patroclus's death, Achilles speaks about how he longs to touch his beautiful thighs, how is that not indicative of a sexual relationship?

  • ok, so if we believe this and take it as a fact, then it was true that achilles was a demigod, then the gods of ancient greece did exist and fought in troy. Its an epic poem based on true events, not everything is true. Especialy the dialogues between the heroes are made up by homer sincve he wrote Iliad centuries after the battle. I just wrote what was common in ancient greece, ofcourse sexual relationships existed but the majority was the platonic relationship.

  • @dimalex8 u do know that they found mycenae---tomb of agamemnon and also the tomb of ajax.......look up kesik tepe (in another words tumulus of achilles) its probably the place where alexander the great paid homage to him (relative btw thru his mom side)--Xerxes and Augustus also visited there

  • the tomb of agamemnon is in mycanae, but it is dibuted if its actually agamemnon or someone else fromt he royal fasmily. The tomb of achilles was never found, the only thing found is the location of the tomb but the tomb is propably lost. It is not called achilles tumulus but Demetrius tumulus.

The tomb of ajax was also never found. The only thing that we have found is the palace of Agamemnon, Odysseas, Ajax of Salamine and the location of the palace of achilles.

  • @dimalex8 niceee, you know your stuff-----i gotta look up the palace of odysseus

  • it was found in epirus, just across ithaca. He wasnt king of just ithaca, a small island, he was king of epirus coast and some ionian islands(one of them ithaca), ithaca was propably the place he was born.

p.s. I forgot to write that a shield was found with achilles son Neoptolemos(who took his father place in the war after achilles died and was considered the 2nd best greek fighter after his father) name on it in thessaly, but they can conclude if its really achilles son altho the dates r same

  • @dimalex8 that is some intreseting stuff....espcially the shield, is there any way i can find that information?

  • @TooyaRima That's only a theory. Keep in mind, people had a much more florid way of speaking in those days, so just because it says they loved someone passionately or something like that, it doesn't mean they were involved romantically. Also, physical contact wasn't as taboo as it is in modern society, so hugging and kissing wouldn't be viewed in the same way. As far as the incident with the prince goes, a more likely explanation is that Achilles was just taunting him.

  • odysses dont know what he is getting himself in to:D

  • Jesus!! that fool can huck a stick!!!!!

  • @MindingMyOwnBiz that fool can go suck a big fat one like he usually does

  • Comment removed

  • What is part 2? I knw theyre on the ship, but when is it? Love the vid!

  • Sean really needs to return in The Odyssey. It just needs to be made.

  • @AgaMbadi That would be awesome.

  • god this movie was so fucking epic. I wish they made a follow up with Odysseus going back to Ithaca

  • @shadedude123

They will. The production company is 1821 pictures and the movie will be released in 2012

  • @shadedude123 they amde one

  • dies anybody have the music from 00 to 0:55???

  • @poops1 no, not really. You're probably a piece of shit warrior. Look at your name.

  • Awesome music at the beginning of the clip. It sucks they changed it to an inferior piece of crap in the director's cut.

  • talonmercenary they were cousins u sick fagot

  • @MrDustytaco No, they weren't. That was made up. In the Iliad, they were...ahem..."friends".

  • Odysseus. Woo.

  • airplane fail in this movie lol

  • @xECHOx123 i keep hearing about this...what part of the movie do u see a plane?

  • You have your sword, I have my tricks....we play with the toys the gods give us

  • You have your sword, I have my tricks....we play with the toys the gods give us

  • How about this, all of you shut up and stop arguing. The rest of us don't care about your debates with each other, take it into private messaging.

  • notice how many times they say the word "cousin"? its like a huge emphasis on how they're TOTALLY related, an absolute 100% plutonic bromance between cousins. nope, not gay at all *sarcasm*
