quirky, but satisfying film made only by the coen bros. solid review, once again. miller's crossing is actually my third favorite coen bros. film. and yes, the scene involving albert finney and the song danny boy is one of the quirkiest moments in any coen bros. film. gabriel byrne is so underrated and this is one of his finest role ever. delighted to see your enthusiasm on this solidly good review. good job, bro.
J.E. Freeman was brilliant. Wish he did more films... last thing I remember him in was the forgettable Alien: Resurrection. Even Joss Whedon couldn't save that film.
Turturro's capable of giving amazing performances. Most of those awsome performances that I've seen him give are with the Coen brothers. O Brother, Lebowski, and of course, this. Haven't seen Barton Fink yet, but I'm sure that's another great Turturro performance.
Great review. It's been awhile since I've seen it, but it worked even better for me the 2nd viewing. Note to self-Look up The Man Who Wasn't There and Miller's Crossing and buy them.
And yea, the Leo sequence.....wow. Brilliant film making. Completely underrated performance by Turturro as well.
@JimmySteller Yea. Shame too because they make such beautifully detailed films on rather low budgets. Byrne is so perfectly cast. Ah hell the whole cast is. Maybe if Miller's Crossing was released in a time the Academy's love and respect for the Coens was apparent, it would have received more. I am glad to say they are an association that seems to respect them oddly enough since I wouldn't assume they appeal to their taste.
its a brilliant film which i think is well overdue another viewing. good job sir.

Gotta say, I'm surprised that Gabriel Byrne wasn't Oscar nominated or that the film wasn't a financial success.
