  • what are the two monitors connected to did you take them out of some notebook

  • how?

  • @psyphormer I program my own driver?

Is this like the winmodem days?

  • I like this, but what you're doing here isn't technically "booting up" in the traditional sense. It's a modified hibernation wake-up, and it's freaking AWESOME, but it needs to be clear that this isn't something anyone would be able to have on a standard consumer PC. If I misunderstood something here though, feel free to correct me!

  • Is there a point in booting your PC in 1 second then spending your lifetime searching for a driver?

  • @igrewold What was the last Linux kernel, you've tested? I am using Linux for more than a year now with various Notebooks and additional hardware like printers, microphones, webcams... I've never had driver problems. All included in the kernel.

  • @igrewold Finding drivers on Linux is much easier than on Windows ... if drivers for your device exists. After a 15-minute OS install i got a fresh linux in front of me, with the original NVDIA driver installed & updated, working WLAN, sound and printer/scanner. Tasks which took me at least 1 additional hour under windows 7, even worse for XP.

  • @Ethonf90 Really? And how do you do that? Because I can fcking find a working driver for Arch with intel gma 4500 (intel 4 series chipset or whatever it is called)

  • @Ethonf90 I can't*

  • @Ethonf90 i would use linux but the're's basically no driver support for me.

  • @gameking008 For what kind of device?

  • @Ethonf90 nvidia quadro fx 1300 (old)

    Linux рулит!)

  • Let's see how fast Windows 3.1 boots with an I7 2720QM SSD...

  • Is that NanoX ?

  • shoot, you wouldn't even need a screen, if you do something wrong the computer would just shutdown and let you try again tomorrow.

  • I think im gonna create an operating system with no gui and just call it FILEZ

  • @wrp247 Good Luck :D

  • Suspend to flash. Cool idea.

  • Ok this is good for linux - but this is SO slow compared to the stuf my dad does... it is ready and running the main program in under 1 second...

  • @Robobbly When I was 4 my dad did all kinds of cool stuff. When I grew up I realized what a douche he was :P

  • @trisky1234 I see... and dont care...

  • @Robobbly rofl

  • @foxyd3 ikr, some people eh..

  • SSD's will do this depending on how heavy of a distro.

  • DOS is it's own operating system. Windows has absolutely nothing to do with DOS. DOS is a really old OS! Nothing in Windows is based on DOS.

The command line program in Windows contains similar interface to DOS, though.

  • @LostOliven Not True, Windows 3.1, 3.11 and 95 were all based off of MSDOS. Windows 95 came packaged with its own version of DOS 7.1 that it ran off. Although older version of windows correctly have nothing to do with dos..

  • technically it's not booting. it's only restoring a previous session.

  • awesome!!

  • Is that an FPGA board that you`re usingÉ

  • Holy sheit

  • Nice :-)

  • that pc is hella old. Try comparing something that is the same age

  • is easy to destroy.. than to create..

that's the reason why people here prefer to say linux is shit and windows is god.. they really can't think with their own head.. it's sad, but that's the way..

  • I'd love to use linux if it had Fruityloops and Photoshop.

  • @OfficialDJDSign it does; GIMP and Ardour

  • the only reason i keep using windows is cause i cant get my hands on red hat linux

  • @jameswx09: what is this man saying? Maybe he is Bill Gates! Only a stupid can say sinmilar shit without shaming himself.. linux has a shitty interface.. ah ah ah ah ah ah ah go play with your mental malware, man!, you have a virus inside!!! he is eating you!!!!

  • @brainzvision why have you been thumbed down 3 times, youve only stated the truth

  • @jameswx09 go to work the fields

  • You are right. Let us now spend 1000 dollars on a Mac.

  • @jameswx09

    Linux FTW

  • what i love about linux is when it boots up, it boots up. no lagging in the start like windows.

  • lol why do you have to may so precise?

  • "GNU is a liscencing/patenting system." ???

What GNU is is not Unix.

  • The point is all things are fully loaded by 2.97 seconds. They don't load in the background

  • I'm using the stand by mod by Win and it works well.... it's pointless of booting 3(linux) or 20(XP) seconds....

  • You are stupid. This takes a snapshot of a running state, saves it to drive... and then loads it when you boot ur pc... it's like hibernation except MUCH faster. Yes it is fully functional as soon as its loaded with no lag.

  • I see u did not tried Linux. It's not like Windows for sure! After boot it's ready for work, and he don't lag after boot like Windows...

  • Any OS will boot quick and not lag on startup if you know how to maintain your rig properly.

  • I maintain my Windows XP box to resume for work within 15 seconds after hibernation. And it's a 3 year old 1.6GHz machine.

  • Ur key word is "hibernation" but what u see in the video is not hibernation!

  • Check the referenced article:

"Warp 2 comprises a bootloader, Linux kernel, and a "hibernation driver," says the company."

So the keyword *is* "hibernation". Also here the snapshot is saved to flash memory, which makes reading back much faster than disk.

  • " the resulting 18.3MB RAM image loaded in 2.97 seconds"

now use a system with a normal amount of RAM and show the benchmark again

  • it's not cold start. it's hibernation

  • Warp 2 comprises a bootloader, Linux kernel, and a "hibernation driver," says the company. The driver takes a snapshot of RAM when hibernation is launched, saving the contents into flash memory, optionally compressing the data. On start-up, the contents are quickly returned to RAM, so that the system resumes its previous running state.

  • what are you talking about?

  • even if it is suspend to disk, it's very impressive

  • Id just like to interject for a moment. What youre referring to as Linux, is in fact, GNU/LInux, or as Ive recently taken to calling it, GNU plus Linux. Linux is not an operating system unto itself, but rather another free component of a fully functioning GNU system made useful by the GNU corelibs, shell utilities and vital system components comprising a full OS as defined by POSIX.

  • ok now? :)

  • So OSX is BSD and windows is dos?

  • The kernel of OSX contains parts from NetBSD and FreeBSD, two system based on Unix

  • Thank you, captain obvious.

  • @darkeyes92 freebsd is based on unix, as is osx

  • @moniker127 Windows as we know it is now a spinoff of Windows NT

  • @moniker127 OS X is based on BSD

Windows is not based on DOS.

  • @tres9027

Early windows is based on DOS, and modern windows is based on early windows.

And, actually, OSX is based on NEXT.

  • @moniker127 Windows later than 2000 are not based on DOS.

  • @moniker127 OSX(darwin) is XNU, and yes basically a BSD flavor so to speak. Or basically XNU unix. Windows is NT nowadays. Not DOS.

  • ha ha nerd of arrogance

  • /watch?v=I25UeVXrEHQ#t=1m46s

  • Huh?

  • Buah.. So disgusting.. xD

  • GNU works without linux. there are tools for unix like systems.

  • Yes, GNU works with Linux.

I have loads of GNU tools on my Solaris box. No Linux in sight...

  • Gnu runs on any Unix kernel.

  • @middehovenbaas This is actually untrue, Linux is an operating system kernel that is most definitely bootable and functions as an operating system. However, the official Linux kernel is not necessarily functional enough for general purpose use of any kind, requiring developers to modify it and use it as a base for an operating system with a GUI, available applications, etc.

  • @middehovenbaas LINUX IS THE KERNEL whatever... explain urself first what is what and then trying to explain to others...

  • @middehovenbaas Thank you! I like it when it people who know what their talking about be specific and share their knowledge.

  • @middehovenbaas

Watch another Stallman video, why doncha?

  • @middehovenbaas

pretty much except the last part. GNU/Linux is not 100% Posix compliant.

  • @middehovenbaas Are you RMS in disguise?

  • @middehovenbaas is that you stallman? give it up no one is going to call it GNU/Linux.

  • @jon780 hes just showing respect to those who laid the foundation who of which, in most cases, are left in obscurity

  • @middehovenbaas copypasta sure is tasty

  • @middehovenbaas Stop being a smartass :). Your not even technically correct in your explanations. Linux is the name people call Linux based OS's unless the system deviates far from the standard implementation (like Android).

    -Cheers

  • @middehovenbaas I hope, looking back on this comment two years after it was posted, you see a more shameful, pretentious, stupid you, and appreciate a personal destupidization that you can enjoy today.

  • @middehovenbaas Ok smartass.. So half the distros out there will share the same name using your stupid label or have stupid names like this.. Linux Mint Plus Linux.. Really works! I think things are difficult enough for new users without your silly ideas.

  • It's based on suspend 2 disk technology, but it's really fast.

  • All depends on the distro. Some run completely in RAM, which will load it in 2-3 seconds. Of course it has nothing in it that's useful, but it boots up nice and fast lol.

  • hibernation...

  • Yeah this is more like hibernation. Doesn't count as booting.

  • Linux isn't Japanese.

  • Linux is for all:)

  • Water isn't Japanese but you can still get Japanese water...

  • are you crazy???

    see the description

  • "The technology appears similar to but much faster than Linux's existing "suspend-to-disk" capability."

its not really a hard boot

  • nchristy08 makes a good point, booting in a few seconds is pointless if there are no services up that make the os practical and useful. Still cute though.

  • awesome.... is this real?

  • yes it's real ;)

  • Well you could get X, up and running in 10 seconds, without starting any daemons and using a custom init system, but 3 seconds is amazing. Good job.

  • How did you make this miracle dude?

  • see the description :)

  • Amazing.... Really Amazing
