I m sure Ian Curtis would have loved this video on his song. We cannot make better video which matches so well with lyrics at adequate moments. Im impressed to see this first photograph which is the cover of closer album. It is said that Ian who made a few hypnosis wih friends and professionnal had seen himself in old past time as an old dead man laying on a bed....... I thank u so much for the involvement in ur passion for Ian and this wonderful video .
'The initial "commercial" release as New Order was the single "Ceremony", backed with "In a Lonely Place". These two songs were written in the weeks before Curtis took his own life.[12]'
have a friend here who has New order "In a lonely place on 12 inch vinyl (1980s)
@Guevaristas yes. there's a studio demo on the 4-cd box set Heart And Soul which came out in the early 90s I think. It's a great version. I don't think they played it live until New Order. The first release was the studio version by New Order as the B-side of first single Ceremony. Heart And Soul box set also contains a demo of Ceremony by Joy Division, and Ceremony is played live by Joy Division on the Still album
@chrisnoaro1 interesting. A friend has many rare JD LPs- on plastic of course. One is a 45, an interview with Ian Curtis. The actual record has a picture of Curtis's face on it.
Others are bootlegs, one bootleg is entited "Amsterdam". He has indicated that he will sell the whole collection.
@Guevaristas Cool, I spent lots of money on vinyl bootlegs by JD and early New Order in the 80s. I got rid of many of them, just keeping the versions of tracks I thought were essential. I'm a very big fan but not so fanatical that I keep and buy everything. Yes I remember that intervies picture disc, as well as the Amsterdam bootleg. If you're a big fan too my advice would be to record them before he gets rid of them. Cheers
@chrisnoaro1 yea, true. So you too have a vast LP collection, nice. I lived throught the 1980s era and the way JD was viewed then is different from how they are now viewed. Like all bands, they were defined by their context, perhaps trapped within it. The 1980s was an entirely different decade, the cold war was raging, bands like Killing Joke and Bauhaus, were relevant back then. It was a bleak, nihilistic decade, that's reflected in the music, do you agree?
@Guevaristas Hmmm, like you I'm big into Killing Joke & Bauhaus. I got into music around 82 through synthpop so I missed when JD first came out, discovered them through Blue Monday then diversified into a whole lot more guitar-oriented postpunk bands like Wire, Siouxsie, PIL, etc. If you don't already know of it, I highly recommend a really good book about postpunk - Rip It Up And Start Again by Simon Reynolds. Even though I like to think all appreciation of music and various eras is...
@Guevaristas ...subjective, I think the decade was pretty wonderful, through I completely lost interest in mainstream pop in the mid and late 80s. But the stuff I listened to as a kid, both mainstream and obscure (postpunk, early industrial, goth, electropop) I've never stopped listening to and it seems as exciting to me today as it did then! - I must be in my own weird bubble, though I still listen to some new stuff. Did you get into Bauhaus's recent album? I thought it was pretty cool. Cheers!
@chrisnoaro1 have seen recent footage of Bauhaus, but not heard their CD. Wire are also still going. Most of our LPs had to be imported from the UK, there was a long wait. Even the NME took three months to arrive here. It was a scene that happened in the UK, but at the same time was exported to new zealand and other places. Yes, it sounds bizarre, but it did have a universal attraction. the same things the punks were complaining about were happening here, but on a smaller scale.
@Guevaristas Yes it was the same in New Zealand took a few months, though mostly it was because I was a bit too young, I did most of my discovery of punk and postpunk by going back a few years and searching out all the stuff I'd missed! I still keep up with Wire too, their latest 'Object 47' I really liked a lot.
@lyonslaforet : The album cover was designed by Martyn Atkins and Peter Saville, with photography from Bernard Pierre Wolff. The photograph on the cover is of the Appiani family tomb in the Cimitero Monumentale di Staglieno in Genoa, Italy, by Demetrio Paernio.

Wow this video really captures Ian Curtis as a tragedy one can only feel and almost live through this masterpiece of a video..through such dedication will people come to understand what a great poet and songwriter Ian Curtis was..though words may have fixed meanings, these clips take it one step further and place him among us as he is, as..The Eternal

do you know where the first photograph which seems to be the "Closer" (1980) cover was taken?
So harrowing. Even New Order at its best (Temptation, Blue Monday, True Faith) can't match Joy Division's unforgettable music
