I understand what you mean, although this doesn't take away the context of the song, it's a different interpretation. It may seem "upbeat" but the original premise of the punk movement was to speak out for social injustices in a very extreme way. Although I really do like the original, this version still brings awareness to the initial subject, and isn't that what Vega wanted to convey in the first place?

One of the blandest bands of the 90s. Where it not for Dando's cover boy looks and grunge posturing, I doubt these guys would have ever gotten signed. Dando couldn't write a memorable hook if his life depended on it so he released a bunch of forgettable 3 chord singles and had a very minor hit with a cover version of Mrs Robinson. I just listened to his 'new' stuff. 20 yrs later, he sounds exactly the same. It's a Shame About Evan

This version is much better. But you need to do the guitar riff with the notal harmonics, instead of writing your own solos. That hook compliments the vocals alot. The scatting during the prechorus is not needed. Sing the song like she does. Your voice is good, but trying to overdoit kills the reality of what Suzanne did. And the guitar player is very bad.
