Cedar Grove voters also passed the district's $23.1 million spending plan by a ratio of nearly 2-to-1, a margin Board of Education President Frank Mandala called "historic and unprecedented." "We made Cedar Grove history tonight," Mandala said.
As a former student who had to attend school under multiple failed school budgets, I can tell you it is not good at all – not one bit. Let’s change the cycle of failure. Let’s start supporting the school budgets to show that as a town we really do care about education. We have to prove that we do care and show it for current and future students.
Wow, incredible production. The music, camera shots, and topics are right on point for this presentation. I agree that we need to keep moving forward, giving kids more opportunities, and save these school budgets. Without education, a child loses the values of discipline, respect, social moral, society, world, life, and learning to realize the importance of creating a future for themselves, as well as how impactful the youth can be making changes in the future. Save our budgets, Save our youth!
As a senior citizen on a fast fading fixed income, I must be mindful of my spending. However, as a voter, I strongly support this measure. Demonizing educators is quite the fashion lately. I refuse to allow the children to suffer at the whimsy and caprices of bi-partisan political fads.
The free local weekly giveaway newspaper in town wrote about this video and I decided to check it out for myself. The Editor wrote some pretty negative things. I have to tell you that after watching it, I totally disagree with what the newspaper said. The video was informative and gave me all the facts I needed to make an informed decision about the school budget – straight and simple.
You really get to know first hand the effects failed budgets have on the CG School System after you graduated. When in college, you talk to other students and learn what their schools had and the many elective classes that were offered. In CG that wasn’t the case - it was just the basics and a few extras. With so many failed budgets, teachers were eliminated and elective classes. How can you offer elective classes without teachers? Here’s to the budget passing - the start of a change.
What an eye opener this was!!! As a school district we should not “just have to make due with what we have.” Our children should not be subjected to that type of philosophy. The great John F. Kennedy once said "Let us think of education as the means of developing our greatest abilities, because in each of us there is a private hope and dream which, fulfilled, can be translated into benefit for everyone and greater strength for our nation." Lets excel and exceed - support this budget.
As a parent of two children soon to enter elementary school, I think that it's important we continue to build our school programs and not subtract from them. Foreign languages, the arts, athletics, and of course, strong academics are so important for their development, and this video reminds us about the real world impact of these budget cuts.
We need to support this school budget and vote yes. If the budget fails and the Board of Education is forced to make even more deeper cuts into our core program, the quality of our schools will be compromised even further. Passed failed budgets are already hurting our kids. Class sizes are already higher than average; some of our classes sizes are 23 to 28 students per class. If the budget keeps getting reduced, too many programs may be cut and our school district will be unrecognizable.
Many of those speaking have a issue with the town council. People hurting in town is not reflected in the film. Many of the council members have children and grandchildren in the school system, so that knocks out the anti-education theory.
This film is setting up the stage for defeated budget and not for better educational budget.
What a disservice we do to our kids by not going out and voting yes to pass our school budgets. Occasionally, I hear from other parents that “we should be like Millburn, Madison, Verona, and Chatham in terms of test scores” My response is that “those towns PASS their budgets and we don’t in Cedar Grove.” Let’s start affecting a mindset change and put our money where our mouths are for our kids. Pass this budget.
It is unbelievable how much money the town council has cut over the years from our schools when a budget fails. I had no idea the severity of the damage they have done. We need to make sure that this doesn't happen anymore and take control of our kids futures. When you realize that we lost over $1.2 million from their cuts, you know we HAVE TO come out and support the budget.
would think, given the facts, that “YES” for the school budget would be a “no brainer.” Obstructionists and contrarians will vote no. When we really look at the situation though, can any of us really look our children in the eye and feel good if we have not given them the education and support they need?
Great Job! It is truly eye-opening what the schools have lost. With luck this will motivate parents to come out and vote. I agree that we need to change the trend of failed budgets in Cedar Grove. Nothing good can come from more cuts in education.
Good, but a little too long. If parents supported the school system, the budgets would never fail. After $2.7 million in cuts, how much more do we have to cut? Parents should vote. End of story. If not, they can lose more of what they have and stop complaining that they want more.
I hear all the time -- Why don't we have what other school districts have? Well it doesn't take a brain surgeon to figure it out. Failed budget after failed budget. You can be sure that the town council are not surgeons, they are more like butchers, they take the meat clever and cut to the bone.
I liked the video. It was a very professionally done. I support education in Cedar Grove and always vote. But it is amazing how many parents don’t bother to vote. It is their schools for their kids. You would think they want to make sure the schools have the teachers and programs. Go figure. I hope everyone comes out and votes YES.
