  • lol screw the old paper mache volcanoes in 3rd grade. Bring this shit in for an A! :)

  • looks like a weed

  • The "key" to this trick, is a substance that will burn, leaving a solid combustion product with a density significantly lower than the original "fuel". Couldn't a less toxic alternative be found...?

  • Kinda looks like weed afterwards

  • haha my physics teacher exposed my class to 4 years of radiation in about 30 seconds

  • everything that is fun is a carcinogen

  • I think the paper "NurdRage" in background, is the most toxic thing in your videos :-)

  • Kermit the frog

  • well guys there is one thing i love chemistry... the fundamentals of the alchemy... and yeah pretty much that... say nurdrage, do you know afrotechmod? he is awesome with electronics

  • Very cool

  • Comment removed

  • @PyroPaul42 He might notice if you begin @NurdRage then your question

  • @SavedJesusFreak ok, thanks

  • @PyroPaul42 @NurdRage , I have a question, Can someone re-create a similar reastion with potassium Dichromate? thanks

  • your missing the paper mache volcano

  • can anyone tell me what kind of reaction this is again i forgot :X

  • I think I just got cancer watching this video its soo awsome.

  • I saw this in middle school.

  • awesome!

  • You should make a video about mercury thiocyanide

  • Thanks for taking the risks nerd!

    <3

  • so as it is decomposing into ash it seems to look like the pile is several times larger does that mean the mass changed? or is the ash lighter than the actual orangish dust?

  • @lipman it broke down and combined with oxygen, and the density is different. Mass and energy are conserved

  • i dare you to mix that with potassium nitrate!

  • he is Canadian

  • Another question how can make a colored smoke bomb

  • Amusing! xD

  • Can you do anything useful with the Cr2O3? Or does it go down the drain?

  • watching youtube videos is carcinogenic too

  • So just the ammonium dichcromate is toxic and carcinogenic, not any of the resulting chemicals?

  • Gotta love science

  • What happens with the ash? Can it. E used for anything?

  • Nurdrage, taking one for the team.

  • awww i dont understand im to stupid

  • can i smoke the ash ???

  • Doing it once can cause cancer ?! Sounds like hyped up bullshit to me.

You are more likely to get cancer by living in a city inhaling car fumes and other crap then getting cancer from this experiment if ever.

Besides watching and doing it are two totally different things.

Doing the experiment is far more effective when it comes to learning and motivating students.

    Now that's fact !

That about cancer is just a theory. We don't really know what causes cancer. Could simply be bad luck and genes

  • @labobo so some random dude is smarter then this guy.. hmm random dude or dude with knowlage... hmm facts or oppinion...

  • @iToasterman so random dude that doesn't know anything about what is said in the comment... hmmm douchebag, asshole, troll or everything above....

Please look up the info before opening your mouth, would be good to think before opening your mouth too.

  • @labobo Did i insult you? no? So who is the asshole. you. who is the douchebag. you. who is the troll you. Fine particals can and are carcenogenic. and not to mention the fact its the bi product of a reaction isn't helping. Btw, doing it one can cause cancer. So can many things, your just a retard who says drinking and driving once wont kill you, then does it again and again, then dies in a car pile up

  • @iToasterman Yet again a person on the net have failed to think and understand what they read. Reread the my first comment.

    I was talking about statistics.

Not to mention a lab have protection clothing for a reason. Not using the correct protection for the task is just begging for an accident or injury.

"drinking and driving once wont kill you"

So drinking cola and driving will kill you ? McDonalds should be notified.

See what i did there ? I used your intelligence.

  • @labobo Did i say it won't kill you? no. But nice try twisting my words like you can manipulate comments set in stone. On over 20k servers. Good one. Now fuck off troll. Seriosly. No safety equitment is fool proof. Like ur brain

  • @iToasterman lol did you just realize how much of a fool you are ?

I'm not the troll, you are and you know it.

If you poke the bear you get the claw!

You haven't actually said anything yet that would make me think my first comment was incorrect.

If you think some info were incorrect than tell me. Regurgitating snotty-kid-know-it-all bitchy-douchebag comments will not get you anywhere.

Your comments so far haven't been useful at all to anyone.

  • @labobo How am I the troll. Your the one who had to start the insults to a non insulting comment. But good one, now your gonna remove that comment and DENY it with your life. Poke the bear and get the claw? More like me taking a axe to the trolls head

  • @iToasterman Who is in denial now eh?

    Your drive-by comment was bad,

  • @labobo How am I in denial? what drive by comment? dude stop. Your trying to twist my words and doing it wrong. Your not the first or last

  • @iToasterman Yeah that's denial alright...

  • @labobo No, its you claiming im in denial to win a argument. its a old trick.

  • @iToasterman What you are trying to do now is an old trick.

  • @labobo Nice job using my comment.

  • I'm one of your BIGGEST fans, and I've probably watched ALL of your videos so I know you can answer my question. why does hand sanitizer burn blue?

  • if i knew half the chemicals he knew

  • My face when i found out how toxic this thing is after a prof. did it without any fume hood in front of 24 people (we were visiting a high school to help us choose where to go)...

  • so basically you risk cancer so random people in youtube can see this.

  • We did this at school without any gloves and with the fume hoods off.

My fucking face when i found out how toxic that thing is-

  • you voice is epic

you should work on a radio

  • Is there a video on how to produce this coming up anytime soon? Pleeaase

  • Will you be my science teacher? PLEASE

  • question: so the fume hood protects you from the toxic fumes of all these experiments, but where do all those toxic fumes go? are they neutralized before being release into the air? or are they just dumped into our atmosphere...that can't be good...

  • @haimerejd That is honestly a VERY good question! Perhaps some sort of catalyst?

  • @haimerejd

It depends . . .some fume hoods blast them out straight into the environment, but others filter and scrub the vapours before releasing them.

  • @haimerejd anyway there aren't any toxic "fumes", the only gases produced are nitrogen and steam which you are probably breathing right now lol. the danger lies in the ammonium dichromate - hexavalent chromium compounds (i.e. compounds with Cr in the +6 oxidation state) are carcinogenic.

  • Hehehe Thanks You get acncer and we don't!!! No, but seriously thanks.

  • @techdude1876

No - the risk to this great man is virtually nil since he is doing it in a proper lab environment under a fume hood whilst wearing all safety gear, including nitrile gloves. It is often only dangerous in such ways when inexperienced individuals do this themselves without most of the aforementioned precautions.

  • Thanks! Enjoyed.

  • YAY RISKS!

  • amazing

    my head hurts XD

    thats SO AWSOME

  • what temperature does it burn at when the flames been removed ?

Could a person safely touch it while lit ?

  • I feel smart now

  • Stop with stupid voice!!!!!!!!!

  • how much is this? i wanna put a bunch in a couple of 10inch shells for the 4th

  • isn't Cr2O3 green in color?

  • @UTubeisSHIT523441 Look at 1:12, in the back, the Cr2O3 is green, it just becomes darker as there is water vapor in it.

  • Comment removed

  • It looks like quadrupled in size :o

  • haha my science teacher showed us this last year and after it ended everyone was like ohhhh woooowww!! and he was like oh yeah, it can cause cancer lmao

  • @smoothieking157 yay canceeeeeeeeeerrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr yay

  • ZOMG 1080P

  • subscribe =3

  • thumbs up this comment if u think this video was better then science class

  • canserus?realy?i think there is more of a chance to get peinal canser then that but with haveing no doctor dagree i cant say that so ummm here is me comment

now i need for at least 100 pepole to thumbs this up

    now!!

    lol

    it wont bite

and whail your at it subscribe to nurd rage

he is vary nice and has the best bloody danm awsome videos

  • @TheHomeGamer1 seriously, just checking, but can you spell "canser' properly? (im not telling how u spell it until you you know what)

  • @VBEducation1 People don't dabble about spelling on YT.

  • Why do you need to go to school when you have that guy!

  • @Triplewave4 Cause, while these little experiments look cool, science (at least to me) as always been about the whats and why's of how things happen, I find how and why the experiment happens more fascinating the experiments themselves :).

  • @Sovvolf totally agree with u

  • @Triplewave4 they make you go

  • keep up the good work.......

  • I f**king love these videos =D Very entertaining. Keep up the cool work ;D

  • How do humans isolate/create ammonium dichromate? I always wonder whether we're wasting all of our chemicals as we use them (like how we'll have peak phosphorus and peak helium and so on), or if we actually get the chemicals sustainably.

  • Very cool, wow... I don't know anything about any of this stuff but it all looks so cool so I subscribed. :D

  • now burn 12 tons of it....

  • what do you do to get rid of that ash stuff??

  • I need your email for a project. if you can give it out, please do. Thank you so much!

  • thanks for taking all the risks nurdrage

  • Great reaction! :D

  • good demo but it wasen't big enough you should use a kg of ammonium dichromate. then you'll get a million hits.

  • good demo but it wasen't big enough you should use a kg of ammonium dichromate.

  • Carcinogen smarshinogen! They ought to know by now that the great chemists will die of an explosion, not wimpy cancer! Do this at my school, too!

  • I am very curious to know why ICE +thermite = BOOM. They displayed this as being true on Mythbusters, but they weren't able to explain why this happens(not even the bomb expert). So I would like you to enlighten us on this matter. Please? =)

  • Comment removed

  • @Phoboz anything hotter than a certain temperature that touches water causes an explosion.

the water vapourizes so fast that it indeed causes the explosion

if you had thermite on the ice block,

the ice touching the thermite immediately becomes water and then steam with no where to go

and then it explodes. (an explosion is just a rapid expansion of molecules)

this happens in steel mills everywhere if molten metal ever touches pools of water or ice

  • @butternutsquashpie Yes, I am aware of this phenomenon, it is called sublimation. But the thing is that the explosion looks quite bigger than you would expect. I am not sure if you have seen them, so here they go: /watch?v=77TlYAjtA08 <-That is the original video. And this is the mythbusters clip: /watch?v=BnHR4cMXiyM.

    Thank you for your reply!

  • @Phoboz well if i were to explain the explosion of C4,

you would also not assume that the explosion would be so big,

but the thing is that the water is sublimating so fast that the explosion causes the ice chunks to fly everywhere

  • Nice! Wish my skool showed us that

  • great video and explanation of how it works!

now you have Cr2O3 whitch is not carcinogenic and you can re-use it for some other cool experiments (your choice)

  • Now how do we make chromic acid ... make video Ill wait :P lol

  • is this similar to the "snake" fireworks that you light?

  • lemonslemons2010

    plus science is awesome anyway

  • lemonslemons2010

middle school.......where i learned to ignore everybody else and their non science-related opinions.

being smart is a gift, the people that might make fun of you are jealous of you and your gift.

    two words..........IGNORE THEM.

  • @nerdalert226 Ignoring works while you're a kid, but when you start doing actual science and need money that's usually in the hands of such pricks, you learn to suck ass and debate. That is the sad truth.

  • @endimion17 exactly did she say she was an adult?

  • NurdRage: I am in the Hammer(NORTHENDER) if you need any strength on the Fly. Keep up the work let us know if you need Donations, I'll give monetary, or muscles wise!

  • my kids gonna like this!! thanks! btw where to find ammonium dichromate?

  • I do have to wonder though, why does all the ash stuff end up behind the volcano?

  • @lucario429 its in a fumehood. there is a constant draft pushing stuff toward the back.

  • @NurdRage its self combustive is it an explosive must be i guess to burn like that

  • Cool man..Thumb up

  • ..Awesome!

  • Thanks!

  • I WANNA TRY >:D --- Sent From NurdRage's AppRats (Facebook App)!

  • Cool!

  • Hey nurdrage what was with the 4 month absence? we missed you :( Anyways keep the videos coming yours is one of only like 3 people on youtube im actually subbed to.

  • Comment removed

  • Looks like NurdRage is finally back in business!

  • How does it work as a carcinogen?

  • wow have no ideal what's happening, but I love it

  • wow, i cant ever imagine a world without science :)

  • y u didnt put magnesium

  • @justaname111111 good idea, i may do that in a later video.

  • @NurdRage what dose the magnisium do?

  • Amazing!

  • "We've done it, now you don't have to."

    -- Adam Savage, Mythbusters

  • I could watch your videos for hours, they're always so varied and interesting :D BEST CHEMIST EVER WOO!!!

  • 18,191 :D

  • AMM0NIUM HERE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @amm0nium Louis here ?!?!

  • awesome!!! I'd love to see a much larger mound of that stuff set on fire -- like a softball or football-sized pile!

  • Soo snorting this up the nose is bad, because i kind of did snort this stuff for a laugh. Not bothered much really.

  • @KingOfChaos213 lol as if i really did, i've inadvertenly inhaled MDF dust tho because of idiots not using the extraction fan on machines.

  • Why does the reaction "center" itself?

  • @RaoPaoer Because i say so, thats why hahaha.

  • @RaoPaoer

I suppose that most of the pile is in the centre, the flame folllows the fuel and burns out sooner in areas where there is less fuel, such as the edges.

  • I can see a little black power being in the center if that so after it's done the byproduct is scattered around, plus it's would be perfect to scar someone.

  • Make a gigantic one!

  • I love watching these Nurd Rage videos!

  • cooooooool

  • OMG! I've been huffing Ammonium Dichromate for twenty years after my morning breakfast. (for NO discernible reason) ~Thanks NurdRage!

  • Very cool video!

  • Haha, now you have Chromium oxide all over your fume hood :) --- Sent From NurdRage's AppRats (Facebook App)!

  • I have the same cheapy pen torch from harbor freight!

  • Dear nurdrage, can you tell us what lighter are you using? I wanna know what to buy. Thanx! --- Sent From NurdRage's AppRats (Facebook App)!

  • Is there any use for chromium 3 oxide ash?

  • THANK YOU.

  • Considering that Ammonium Dichromate is carcinogenic, can it be used to benefit us in any way? (Other than making a cool light show.)

  • You should just some time mix all kinds of glowing chemicals to make a big night-light~~! XD

Or glow goo~ (Glow stick with no stick~ X3)

  • Carcinongens are bad.

Making volcanoes out of them safely is cool.

And NurdRage is cooler than cool.

  • A little off topic, but you should sell NurdRage shirts(with processes on back)Just a thought!

  • OOOOOHHH i saw ammonium dichromate i know how to write that in the chemical formula. (i paused at 0:08)

    ammonium NH+1

    dichromate Cr2O7-2

    ammonium dichromate (NH)2Cr2O7

(now im gonna play the vidand see if im right)

OOOO!!!!!! i just practiced chem class on youtube =)

  • ZAJEBISTE !

  • my research is done I have found the nerds core we shall attack at dawn!!!

  • Ahh don`t die for us. Make someone else do it. Oh wait...

  • Please Don't get Cancer! I love your videos!

  • I love this experiment and have done many times myself in the lab. but now I show the volcano reaction on you-tube videos only to my students and do not perform it.... your work is a great source to understand chemistry... thanks alot.

  • why it self centers?

  • They need to do this again, Toughen kids up so there not so whiny :P Make them drink form asbestos cups again too it outs hair on your chest!

  • be sure to subscribe "light" and comment ...

  • AWWWW! You risked cancer for us!

  • @hhmm89 The risk to myself is practically non-existent since I'm doing this in a proper lab with the necessary precautions.

The real risk comes when inexperienced individuals handle the chemicals without gloves, accidentally scatter the powder, or inhale the smoke without realizing the dangers. It's for them that watching it on video is preferable to directly performing the experiment.

  • @NurdRage Well either way, you are awesome, doing all these experiments and procedures, to make science easier for us to understand

  • @NurdRage Woohoo, our grade 9 teacher totally did this with us with no proper safety precautions! Am I going to die? Lol

  • @kickit246 Yes, you will die. Everyone dies eventually.
