I really think it depends on the person's heart behind it... Some people write "X-mas" instead of "Christmas" because they understand the meaning; others use the X because they deliberately want to offend. I would hope that TRUE Christians, actual disciples of Christ, would not throw a fit over something like that though. I don't think that Christians really exemplify the character of Christ by scolding atheists and non-believers.
@JamesisHere93 I believe you're on to something there, James. Intent is what's important. All we can do is choose our response. I choose not to be offended.
oooo... you "abbreviated" the Christ and made him "short"... LOL - personally, i use the X for different reasons other than being lazy. I just get tired of seeing "Christ" plastered all over the place, and "X" seems to be a good way to mark the spot, so I "X" him outta there... I guess I'm just mean... ha ha
@theBarefoot - no, I'm aware of the origins. I also know before Xmas there was XPmas. Not sure why the P was dropped though. Maybe they wanted to save money on parchment???. But anywho, I tried that route one time before and tried to explain is was still a respectful way to write it. It's just plastered in their heads it has to be "Christ" and anything else is disrespectful... Sooo, I use X on purpose because it gets under their skin. Told ya I was mean... ha ha.
I usually like decorating but just not this year for some strange reason. Put up the tree yesterday for the kids which they and the cat have already destroyed. Merry X-mas!
