@Damauveropolis I'm pretty sure we say in the video, but it's 56KB on each side of the disk for a potential total of 112 -- which include any space needed for game saves.
@USattackattack Originally it was back in 2006, but I'm adding to the collection all the time. If you watch our Akihabara Haul video for Tokyo Game Show 2011 (in this channel), you can see a BUNCH more stuff I just got last month! ;)
Famicom looks awesome!! I loved the shape and design of that console. The Disk System was a great idea. From that add-on came out for first time, great games like: Zelda, Metroid, Castlevania (the first Castlevania. It actually came from Famicom and not from Arcade or MSX), Super Mario Bros. 2 (the Original & Only SMB 2). Greetings from Mexico. Sorry my bad english
@jrmommy I can't even fathom how stupid you sound right here, he was looking for a zelda game, and got wrecking crew instead, I can't tell if your just stupid, didn't hear right, or just trolling.
Fascinating stuff. I just imported a boxed Disk System from Japan that I were planning on using with my American NES2 through a pin converter. I might import a classic FamiCom later if I can find one that have been modded to output A/V. That would be best as the NES2 don't support that expanded sound... I bought a "sealed" Metroid and SMB2 with the disk system for the moment.
@joelcr250 Many games with minimal text have English in it. Sometimes it's because these games are released in both Japan and the US, and they only have to make one version. Sometimes it's just because English is "cool", and every Japanese schoolchild has to learn it from grade school onward.

2) There were no official backup units, although there were 3rd party ones like the one you mentioned.
3) Someone just mentioned on another episode that the mystery port on the RAM cart could be used to read/write data, so dumps can come from there.
really interesting, yeah u do look like zack braff,so you could just go and copy a game on a disc?so then didnt everyone just pirate games?why buy the game if you could just copy it?and is the disc system compatible with regular 2.5"floppies?or would a fami disc work in pc 3.5"drive?and were there ever any backup units made for the famicom?i had a 32mbit backup unit/copier for my snes,by bung, doctor something,i was wondering how we got nes game dumps/roms,did they come from a nes backup unit or
Your FamiCom is of the first generation model, that being the ones where the controllers are directly soldered on the circuit board. There were later releases that had controllers that can be unplugged much like the ones on the NES.
@SeanOrange Yes I am, with a question. Why did one of the questions say: ''Why haven't we seen Vinnk?'' if I saw him for a couple seconds in this episode? Did some other people (besides me) notice him? To be honest, most people probably did not recognize Vinnk in this episode...
@TheMarioMan1 The Famicom had its own version of the Zapper, but it was shaped like an actual six-shooter. Even with the more lax toy gun rules in the '80s, there's no way that would fly in the US!
Check out FamicomDojo(dot)TV and click on the big DVD! There's an international shipping option under PayPal (it's the one at the very bottom). You can choose international shipping for Amazon, but theirs is WAY more expensive!
wrecking crew was my second NES game, my mom bought thinking it was mario, i actually tought it was a good game back then, now i just played on an emulator (i had forgot the name and this video just showed to me) and, it's ok, not as fun as i remembered but ok
Man, you're frickin hilarious. I loved watching this, unlike most of those people who try to post videos like this- which make me want to bash my head against the wall

I'm not sure about Yobo's that only play famicom games, but I do have a Yobo nes clone, and a 72 to 60 pin converter. Using those, my disk system does not work, I get a battery error code, however, plugging it into my famicom it works fine, or it did until the cheapo belt I bought started giving an error 22 message. Thought that might be helpful.
I'm editing the very elaborate into to Season 2 right now! :O
The rest? Well, it's hard to say. We're trying to work ahead this year so we don't have huge gaps in between the episodes again. We're working hard, though!

It has the power and reset buttons on the left and right sides, with a cartridge ejector in the middle, I didn't notice that until I bought my SNES a few days ago.
Nope, nothing like that. I usually place my Famicom atop the Disk System because it fits very nicely, but since the only connection between the devices is the RAM cartridge there's no reason to do this. You can put them side-by-side or whatever you want.
Show us more footage of Famicom Disk system games highlighting the difference in sound between the FDS versions of games and their cartridge counterparts.
Hey, SeanOrange, More One Question, If I Have A Famicom And A Disk System i Can Insert The Keyboard On The Famicom Expansion Port And A Power Glove On The Famicom Disk System BIOS Expansion Port? YouFind A Expansion Port On The Famicom Disk System BIOS, I Know That Im A Idiot, But Please, Reply My Questions!
I'm actually not sure what the RAM cartridge expansion port is for. I don't think it's compatible with the port in the front of the Famicom, but I could be mistaken. I'll consult Vinnk about it, since he has more access to these accessories than I do.

you might have to replace Doki Doki Panic, because maybe the readable part got dirty...

Fantastic video(especially love the Warioware bits and the talking Famicom)!
And the best thing about being a year late is there's already a whole swathe of them to plough through!

Too true -- and there are even more coming down the pipe!

I wish I had a Famicom, they look pretty snazzy.
braineaterknux 3 years ago 2
Does the Famicom have any sort of locking device that secures the disk system in place when it's being attached to it, or is it just loose?
I notice that most other consoles (IE Genesis etc); have a port that you connect the attachment into for security.
TwighlightMist 3 years ago
Nope, nothing like that. I usually place my Famicom atop the Disk System because it fits very nicely, but since the only connection between the devices is the RAM cartridge there's no reason to do this. You can put them side-by-side or whatever you want.

Actually, Hudson released an accessory that held the Famicom and the Disk System together. (It pops up on eBay from time to time.

I believe you're thinking of the Twin Famicom developed by Sharp.

Great vids ! What does 4 color rebellion refer to ? I thought it may of referred to old US comics, which used only 4 colors in their comics.
shinryuken07 3 years ago
That's exactly what it refers to. It began as a comics website, but then grew into a video game site and other general geekery.

Show us more footage of Famicom Disk system games highlighting the difference in sound between the FDS versions of games and their cartridge counterparts.

Unfortunately there really aren't that many games that utilized the chip, and those that did often only used it for the title screen.

Hey, SeanOrange, More One Question, If I Have A Famicom And A Disk System i Can Insert The Keyboard On The Famicom Expansion Port And A Power Glove On The Famicom Disk System BIOS Expansion Port? YouFind A Expansion Port On The Famicom Disk System BIOS, I Know That Im A Idiot, But Please, Reply My Questions!
munizguitarra 3 years ago
I'm actually not sure what the RAM cartridge expansion port is for. I don't think it's compatible with the port in the front of the Famicom, but I could be mistaken. I'll consult Vinnk about it, since he has more access to these accessories than I do.
