@GuitarPunk95 its called ent-draught and it's extremely magical hence why it makes the hobbits taller. It doesnt give them the ability to speak to trees in the book but it makes them grow so tall Bilbo hardly recognises them when they return to Rivendell

This scene is kind of a mixing of what happened in the old forest and Fangorn from the book. The old willow put the three hobbits, cause merry did not join them till they got with farmer maggot, to sleep at his feet and then ensnared them and Tom B saved them in the old forest. Treebeard at his home in Fangorn gave them ent draughts to drink which did make them a bit taller.

You figure even with scenes deleted from the theatrical version, the events are still part of the story. That's bourne out in the extended versions, right? That's why that shot of the four hobbits at Minas Tirith -- all basically the same height -- bugs me given M&P grew and of course in the books others notice.

If i can remember corrrectly, i read in the Fellowship of the Ring book and it said something about Tom Bombadil, the master of the Old Forest. And then when Merry and PIppin get caught in the Willow-Tree, i tis Tom who called the tree to release them!!!

I wonder why Treebeard is involved in this... Its not supposed to be in the Two Towers story... LOL! No wonder it is a deleted scene!!!

The reason given was that there wasn't time to fit the entire book/books into a film/films but they felt Tom's speech was an important message so they fit it in here.

I think they made the right choice myself, the first movie would had gone for too long and its storyline would have dragged otherwise.

Books and Film are just too different a forms of media for an exact adaptation.

Talk about weird plot combinations! Treebeard is from The Two Towers, but the scene where Merry and Pippin are caught in the tree roots is from the beginning of Fellowship of the Rings. (The book version, that is) The dialog about "You should not be waking" is supposed to be Tom Bombadil, not Treebeard!

The maiar were servants of the valar, Morgoth was a vala that got rotten, Sauron was a maiar who followed him. ( In my silmarillion it's stated, so of this i'm sure; "used to be a maia of Aulë". Toms origin is not sure, as tolkien himself didn't know/draft it. He has tremendous power, so it's widely accepted that he's either a maia or a valar ( possibly Aulë ). Others think (including me now ) that he's just some sort of manifestation of the earth when it was created. If it makes sense.
