@GuitarPunk95 its called ent-draught and it's extremely magical hence why it makes the hobbits taller. It doesnt give them the ability to speak to trees in the book but it makes them grow so tall Bilbo hardly recognises them when they return to Rivendell
"Away with you ! You should not be waking ... Eat earth, dig deep... drink wateerr... Gooo to sleep. Away with you." I got to love that phrase, I always say this again and again and it sounds so peaceful.
Treebeard's chastising of the tree is just a wonderful moment. Though logically I think it would have been in Treeish and would thus have taken two hours for him to get Merry and Pippin out.
hehe, I HAVE these scenes in my extended version of this movie, I can watch every one of the extended scenes wrapped up in the entire movie anytime i want XP
This is what the Star Wars Prequels SHOULD have been like! LOTR RULED!! It definately more than made up for Lucas' folly. Hey Lucas, heres a REAL epic trilogy!!
This scene is kind of a mixing of what happened in the old forest and Fangorn from the book. The old willow put the three hobbits, cause merry did not join them till they got with farmer maggot, to sleep at his feet and then ensnared them and Tom B saved them in the old forest. Treebeard at his home in Fangorn gave them ent draughts to drink which did make them a bit taller.
You figure even with scenes deleted from the theatrical version, the events are still part of the story. That's bourne out in the extended versions, right? That's why that shot of the four hobbits at Minas Tirith -- all basically the same height -- bugs me given M&P grew and of course in the books others notice.
@udamnputa That's what buying the extended edition is for. When the Hobbit comes out in 2012, I'm going to wait and buy the inevitable extended edition outright, saves money.
yeah but its the same thing as saying you got a bigger piece of steak than i do which is a kool think if they keep drinking the water because then they can wipe out all the uru khai right just step on them like tree beard did lol
This is a scene representing the earlier event in the book were the hobbits get imprisoned by Old Man Willow. Subseqeuntly they are rescued by Tom Bombadil
i hate that they cut this scene out of the movie! it was my favorite part of two towers! "youre taller" "who?" "you!" "than what?" "than ME!" "ive always been taller than you!" "pippin, everyone knows im the tall one, youre the short one" "merry, what are you? 3"6 at the most?" *merry nods* "well as for me, im pushing 3"7." *grows an inch* "3"8!" "3 foot 8?! youve done something!"
Im sure this is an adaption of Old man Willow which isnt featured in the film... Tom Bombadil rescues the 3 Hobbits from the tree before they go to the Barrow Downs (again not featured in the film just the book)
Don't know if it's in this scene but... When Pippin says: "Oooh, i get it! Don't *taps right nostril* be hasty!" - could that mean... what i think? It's also a deleted scene BTW.
If i can remember corrrectly, i read in the Fellowship of the Ring book and it said something about Tom Bombadil, the master of the Old Forest. And then when Merry and PIppin get caught in the Willow-Tree, i tis Tom who called the tree to release them!!!
I wonder why Treebeard is involved in this... Its not supposed to be in the Two Towers story... LOL! No wonder it is a deleted scene!!!
The reason given was that there wasn't time to fit the entire book/books into a film/films but they felt Tom's speech was an important message so they fit it in here.
I think they made the right choice myself, the first movie would had gone for too long and its storyline would have dragged otherwise.
Books and Film are just too different a forms of media for an exact adaptation.
It's a pity that the man eating tree is from the fellowship, and the producers slap dashed it into an otherwise swell scene from the two towers. Perhaps that's why it was left out in the first place....
