Steve Jobs didn't invent the phone. He stole it. Nokia had the market by the balls, Steve Jobs just took the phone and made it million times better. Copying would be making a phone with keyboard that looks better Nokia, but is a better copy. There you go. Stealing works (in artistic way) not in literally....
He sickens me. Sorry to all his family and friends who are still grieving, but he created monsters. I am sick of hearing "MAC IS AMAZING, HAHAHA. IDK WHAT TO DO WHEN MY COMPUTER GETS A VIRUS. HAHAHAHAHA. WHATS A PROCESSOR?!? D:" And the worst part? They think they know more about computers then me. They have no clue what Linux is. I hate them =.=
Android Rocks, Rust in Pain Mr. Jobs ! Apple steal every thing, from GUI to Smartphone. GUI = Atari XT and Tablet/Smartphone = Sharp Portfolio, Palm, WM 6 ...
So he's admitting to stealing Android! Lmao.....then apple freaks out cause Android is still #1 so they sue everyone and their mom and spread false statements! Apples pathetic....Android FTW
I love how he's openly admitted to stealing ideas and improving upon them, and yet when any other company has the slightest similarity to apple, they get sued. Apple needs to focus more on improving their own products than suing anyone who may have a better product.
Steve Jobs Your loved by lots, hated by lots, and unknown by lots. People can say what they like about you as i honestly don't care, your impact changed things, whether the lovers or haters like it or not. And that is what you shall be remembered for.
People don't seem to realize that Apple is insignificant in the big financial scheme of things. Pixar, a Jobs created company, was created from nothing and a few years later sold for over a billion dollars.
i would say Google copied and didn't steal .. IF google came out with something that was better and radically different based on the iPhone then i think we would be having a different conversation but as it is Android OS is clunky bloated and to technical for its own mobile good. being a fragmented mess docent help either.
(the nexus phones i would say come close to not being what i described)
Most people misunderstand what Jobs is saying. Steal in this context means "making it your own," or in other words, adapting others ideas into something better. Copying is like a xerox machine - there is no difference. Stealing (in this context) means making it your own and making it better.
You people are taking this way too literally. He doesn't mean that you should copy exactly, but you should be inspired to make something better that serves the same functions.
After knowing what Apple do today and after all those patent-shit, I'll say this: Fuck you Apple and everyone behind Apple. You're just weak and afraid of competition on the market, dickheads.
@KingKjellboy that's a bit one sided . true , if apple gets to horde everything that remotely like their product , they dont need to do anything else but you cant do shit . on the other hand , a lot of people worked their heart and soul into products like the ipod and iphone . there were numerous prototype that ended up nowhere , money and time poured into it . if you have to spend 2 years of your life working on a product , wouldnt you want to protect it too ?
@Hikayuhuy If I developed new techology, nope, but only the device, not the techology. They are halting the progression of technology because of that. Or rather, I would, but I would let others use the technology and furhter develope it. How the hell do Apple think we are able to do what we can do with everything? They were nevere the first with touch, computer or even touch-based cellphones. Besides, I wonder when those who actually got the original patent on those stuff, going to sue Apple?
"Part of what made the Macintosh great..." was that I was able to sell mine to some stupid hipster dickhead for way way more than it was worth. The other part was that before I sold it, it worked GREAT as a doorstop.
What you idiots don't realize is that Google's CEO was on the Apple's board and he was invited by Steve to join the board. He was there and knew everything about iPhone and just after a year it was launched.. he quit and there we had Android. Point being.. this whole time he had the idea of Android but stayed on board to learn about Apple's plans. This is called backstabbing and I would be just as pissed as Steve Jobs was.
@Psyched Eric Schmidt didn't have the "idea" of Android, it was a fully fledged company that Google bought in 2005. Sure they nurtured it and developed it into the open OS that we all use and love today, but to say he say iOS and said "we need a piece of that, exactly as it is" is a ludicrous argument.
So.. Apple was granted the "slide to unlock patent" fuck steve jobs. getting rid of the iphone 4 and getting that new nexus. Apple execs are all fruits. They trying too hard to control the mobile industry and barely contribute to any "new" innovation. Android has more to offer than those POS.
@debunker1905 I don't deny he turned an ailing company around, and I wish him the best. Love him or loathe him, he turned computing and mobile devices into something the general public could get behind. I just really don't buy the whole "you stole from us" ethos he adopted late in life, when nothing his company did was original, just nicely packaged.
Steve's last move was to probably launch a lawsuit against Samsung to somewhat unsettle Android. But if he had this philosophy I do not understand why he would do such a thing.
So it was fun for Steve Jobs to steal from people, what they where trying create? Sure it takes time and resources to develop a product, its why many companies must slow down. But then we get these people that take other people's ideas and managed to make better and quicker because they didn't waste time in creating products. Apple never created anything.

Difference between what apple does and what Google does is that apple steals a couple of ideas and makes a better product out of it. Google's android just stole big parts of iOS and brought out a product that's worse.
@listenwhatisayoh I believe to know a little about it :) I found that when Apple stole the mouse, some interface ideas etc. and made their computer, it was a computer better than the sum of the components (if i can say it like that :p) but when i look at android i can't help but think, kinda has something from what i see on an iPhone ... but it's just not (this may indeed be subjective) as good. So you're right, i should've said: i personally think there's a difference. You don't have to agree.
Richard Stallman describes the mentality of apple as "The Jail OS made cool". Apple literally took a bsd derivative and added quartz on top of it, and then closed it up and sold it as a "new product". I think that apple is probably the most dangerous threat to free (as in freedom) software. APPLE IS NOT ON THE SIDE OF FREE SOFTWARE. They are a trojan that pretends to be on the side of free software but in reality they oppose EVERY facet of its philosophy and enforce it with great predudice.
“I will spend my last dying breath if I need to, and I will spend every penny of Apple’s $40 billion in the bank, to right this wrong … I’m going to destroy Android, because it’s a stolen product. I’m willing to go thermonuclear war on this."
@ParadoxNG Welcome to fucking business. You are naive or just plain dumb if you think every other company doesn't think that way about their competitors.
"Our lawsuit is saying, ‘Google you fucking ripped off the iPhone, wholesale ripped us off.’ I will spend my last dying breath if I need to, and I will spend every penny of Apple’s $40 billion in the bank, to right this wrong. I’m going to destroy Android, because it’s a stolen product.”
@dsgamecube Why should Android not be allowed to steal? Steve obviously does it. They shouldn't be limited to what they steal, just because they're stealing from Steve Jobs.
...and I don't think you know of Steve Jobs' history. Cancer or not, he was a scumbag to his competition, and ignored his own morals and principles on life. Shame on him and shame on Apple for creating a scumbag following that seemingly can't piece together the reality of things for themselves.
That being said, I hope he rests in peace. The iPod was a landmark achievement for the music scene and sparked an underground revolution that is finally starting to surface.
Yup, but Google copied a lot of OS to create Android, and they blackmailed the User Mode- Experience - Functions and all the operating-codes in the iOS, as well bill gates in one moment blackmailed Apple, Google did it too.
But anyways, Android is evolved, but really need to speed up in the performance for all the devices in general, above all in the Multitask, because really in my Galaxy SII runs like crap when i load tha same apps that in my other iPhone 4 : /
Ouch, i think Steve Jobs regretted saying that, cos thats not cool thing to say, whether or not this is actually what happens in real businesses (which I'm sure it does!). I think by misquoting Picasso it was a way to seem intelligent by saying something really dumb......Steve, steve steve, esp now with all the patent wars going on.
Henry Ford didn't invent the automobile and Steven Jobs didn't invent the computer. However both Jobs and Ford made sure we all us could own and enjoy them.
@MsZhangx How can you be on the internet & come up with a comment so utterly incorrect? Nokia didn't make tablets or "smart" phones. They make regular phones, still dominate that market. Until 2011 they were #1 in revenue for over a decade & are still #2 meaning they've made lot's of money over the years AND THEY ADVERTISE ALL THE TIME. People are aware of their products it's just their recent phones have suffered in comparison to competitors. ie symbian sucked.
when you copy something its just a copy, but when you something you make it yours it inspires you it longer is a copy its yours you take it to next level and make something great out of the thing you stole.
What do you say about the recent death of a technological revolutionary whose work helped shape the modern computer industry regardless of platform.....you say "We will miss you, Dennis Ritchie."
Absolutely fantastic, how Steve manages to take something from Picasso, twist it, and brutalize the source ruthlessly. This is what real innovation is and this is what good artists do.
I believe that the whole GUI concept was stolen by Apple from Xerox in the 1st place of which Microsoft wrote Apples software programs. Of course this debate if you want to call it that will always be run by fanboys.
Ubuntu, Bactrack 5, Windows 7 Ultimate boot System.
and READ the Apple paragraph where it states that they secured the rights & compensated Xerox. It was Microsoft who stole the GUI because they didn't compensate anyone.
so hes saying its cool 2 steal peoples shit and remake it, 1 day theyll steal something from the wrong someone and get killed. in reality if your not just a leach or a dumbass, you can think of shit on ur own
Claiming that Steve Jobs wasn't a great visionary is as ridiculous as saying Bill Gates isn't a great software salesman, or Warren Buffett isn't a great investor. Steve Jobs is perhaps THE great visionary of the late 20th century. There are many forms of creativity. Seeing the possibilities in pre-existing ideas is one. The way he amalgamated ideas and technologies was unique. He changed the tech business forever. That takes creativity. And enormous vision and will.
Andy Warhol said "good artists copy, great artists steal"...that's why one of his biggest, most famous pieces of art, prominently features a graphic design that he didn't have anything to do with creating; Campbell's Soup...
"We can sit by and watch competitors steal our patented inventions, or we can do something about it. We've decided to do something about it," Apple co-founder Steve Jobs said in a statement that accompanied the HTC lawsuit. "We think competition is healthy, but competitors should create their own original technology, not steal ours."
I don't call it stealing, I call it progression. If we look at the history of mankind, every idea, invention, advancement, you name it, is a mere continuation of previous ones. There's no such thing as a purely "original" idea. Let me illustrate: Newton came up with the idea of gravitation...which Einstein used in his theory of relativity...which in itself was used by the scientists who came up with the atom bomb!!! So everything is a continuation. I will call it "Unoriginal Originality' !!!
What Bill Gates realized immediately after the inception of the first Apple PC was to realize he wanted to control the BRAIN, the OS and didn't care about who made the hardware, so he bundled his OS in with all the hardware vendors from the get go, that is why Monopolysoft is the perfect monopoly to this day. Gates saw what Apple did, make a cheap build it yourself PC and he focussed on controlling it all.
Jobs caught on with NeXT, then came back to Apple with OS X eventually, then iOS etc.
Sycophants -- look at how Bill Gates et al rubs it in their faces: peruse their mask-like mugs: darting eyes - lizard lips; excrement eaters poised behind & to his sides. Bill's wishing to apply discoveries to reduce inequities in the world hinges on, of course, a simple time tested, shall we say, formula: fewer people & less humanity ... yields, resplendently, less inequity. Ya see, as his logic would have it, less is more ... equity: very essence of depopulation agenda; sweet-cheeks NWO dipper
@CharbTurbo: You said it; the back and trapdoor NSA alphabet etc data mining eg, development, implementation and deployment and all manner of emergent AUTONOMY (research it: intended to avail omnipotent surveillance on everyone globally) mega-mainframe feed integration: FACEBOOK. Goofy looking Suckerbuns hails as typical poster-pansy: hideous annihilation launch against humanity: nothing short of it: full-throttle NWO agenda. He attempts obfuscatation: cult of personality worshipers deserve it
@Ducattiwarrior: Dellusional -- research your murk; mawkish dross -- yet another cult of monopolistic phony-history worshiper: self-congratulatory mass inculcation psychobabble, cloaked in a dress-casual hocuspocus mantra, spewing slovenly layered chicanery ... sick and utterly demented rubbish. Gates & Jobs remain nothing more than two-bit poker play-strategist homos who used by latching their vampiric incisors into the necks of others ... spurred on by a tsunami of trans-capital: end
@endwarler Research before you make an idiot of yourself please. Apple gives to many charities and they have given more to the world than you know. Without Apple, we would not be where we are now in technology.
@Stayontargetprod Ah you are correct, and I have mistyped. i should have spelled Steve's Job lack of philanthropy work. (dealbook.nytimes.com/2011/08/29/the-mystery-of-steve-jobss-public-giving/).
Another library with a wealth of knowledge. You had another 30 years to lead us into the future. You have a great mind and humanity could have gotten more. You are a true pioneer. Even though I use Microsoft, I do not favor one over the other. What is important is that your ideas paved ways and made a huge impact in human society. Who knows what else you could have given us if you had another 30 years. You will always be remembered. Rest in peace.
He misunderstood the original meaning of Picasso´s line.
Picassos mean a real artist go further than just copy reality. The real artist steals the essence of reality and holds it in a master piece. When Picasso talks about stealing, he meant to say: capture reality.
Jobs used the phrase totally out of context. What a Jerk!
@fkaleo the quote is from Picasso. Your interpretation may vary. But in many ways, that is what Steve Jobs said.
"We take the best ideas people have from different walks of life, make them work together harmoniously by making something that couldn't exist before using the merits of not just one but all ideas that came together to make something new."
Steve Jobs didn't invent the phone. He stole it. Nokia had the market by the balls, Steve Jobs just took the phone and made it million times better.

@Ronaldopopkings Yes, indeed! But again, Android has taken pretty much from iOS too, so I kinda see it like "exchange" feautures!
When they launched iOS 5 they at least told a joke about maybe you've seen this kinda "status bar" before, and then they laughed :)

Heelissrogue 3 months ago
@Heelissrogue go here
en.wikipedia(dot)org/wiki/History_of_the_graphical_user_interface#Early_developments
and READ the Apple paragraph where it states that they secured the rights & compensated Xerox. It was Microsoft who stole the GUI because they didn't compensate anyone.

"We can sit by and watch competitors steal our patented inventions, or we can do something about it. We've decided to do something about it," Apple co-founder Steve Jobs said in a statement that accompanied the HTC lawsuit. "We think competition is healthy, but competitors should create their own original technology, not steal ours."
rickreeves1 3 months ago

What a Jerk!
fkaleo 4 months ago 319
@fkaleo the quote is from Picasso. Your interpretation may vary. But in many ways, that is what Steve Jobs said.
"We take the best ideas people have from different walks of life, make them work together harmoniously by making something that couldn't exist before using the merits of not just one but all ideas that came together to make something new."
