Our band supported the original Angels when they played in Bowen N.Q in about 2005. Great bunch of guys. The photo we took with our 2 bands together is one of my greatest possesions.
My Angels story, 4 of us plus pillions riding our motor cycles in the rain from Dubbo to Parkes in 1980 to see them play at the Parkes RSL and then riding back home when the gig was over.
if you are a real aussie you will know that The Angels is a real ozie band!!! I have seen them live since I was too young to be able to let in....And They Rule!!!
For what ever reason this band never made it in the States. I remember this song getting some airplay and over here they were called Angel City. I really liked the song and I got a chance to see them when I went down under for the first time in "87. They've been one of my favorite bands ever since.
great work Nozz, i saw the angels last year doing their dark room tour, great show, all still great players, this clip nice, the youthful and charismatic Doc
Yet another BRILLIANT clip from my hero on YouTube ... nzoz1980 ... or whatever year the clips are from ... Thanks again nzoz ... for ALL your effort ... You're The BEST buddy ... Wish I could do something more than just say a humble "Thank You" each time I get some joy from your clips : ) If only people could know how much work & how many hours you put into this passion of yours : )
@AnnieDelico no worries Annie... reading feedback like yours is enough to make me happy and feel the effort was worthwhile! There'll be more to come at a later date!
Wow! Is there anything better than the Angels? Aussie pub rock at it's very finest. I'm 17 years old and don't think I've ever seen a better gig than the Angels a couple years ago, well maybe AC/DC but that's expected. Thank you Mum and Dad for having such amazing music taste and getting me into the right music!
@imrotton This *IS* The Angels - I saw them perform on Countdown in the 80's and I had their album with this song on it - once again myself, NZOZ and several other Aussies have proven you wrong.
Doc sung thing right into my face when I was front row in '09. Well, he would of if the microphone hadn't been broken in the antics of the opening bands :P. Amazing gig!

My thanks to whomever saw fit to get this video on here...I heard the song once in my youth on the radio, and have longed to hear it again...the only line I could recall was "she lives in a tower armed with defenses she learned from her mother and friends"...and by typing that into the search it came up! It's been two decades since I've heard it! Thanks again!
I just want to thank you for posting all these, I live in the States and have always appreciated them. They are awesome hoped to see them one day but it will probably never happen in the great northwest where I live! So once again thanks for sharing!

Unreal band. Glad they're back together again. Shame about Neesons broken back and the problems he went through for almost a decade, but I'm glad he's better again.
@BloodSkinKing74 That must have been awesome! I used to date the Tour manager... after one big concert lots of girls were allowed back stage for autographs, I remember so many girls lifting their tops and asking Doc Neeson to sign their breasts.. which he did!! LOL
MAN OH MAN! Does this bring back memories! The guitar solo in the middle is superb! Cruising around in my girlfriends moms white on white 1973 Mercury Cougar XR7 and crazy "teen bush parties", getting drunk in the sticks. LOL!
Saw the Angels in the early nineties,Cheap Trick backing band, The guitarist from Trick brought out a three necked guitar, fell on his ass in a solo, and the crowd just hounded for the Angels to come and Save the Day.Cheap Trick finished thier set three songs in as the crowd raised their zippos and titties and chanted for the main act to start, then The Angels came out and did a 3 hour set at the Perth Enter Centre(which is now rubble),and blew our collective minds.Great Band,Awesome memories.

I am one of the lucky ones to have been witness to the birth of this bands early days. When they arrived in Victoria [from South Australia] one of the first gigs as The Angels - was as a support act for a band called "Big Push" I was the guitarist. I thought they were "special" from the moment I saw them - so did our singer Gary. We were gigging 5 - 6 nights a week - but on Sundays - we got to see The Angles at Poynton's pub in Carlton. Truly awesome - thanks guys.

"The Quarrymen were a somewhat successful Liverpool band who went by the name of 'The Beatles' in the rest of the world due to commercial and contractual arrangements, mostly at the insistence of their largely unknown manager........"
I saw these guys in Brookvale about 15 years ago. A friend of mine found a pager on the ground after the gig and a shoe. Those were the days before mobile phones and cream puff boy bands when a thong was a thong and an ugg boot was an ugg boot and a ute was something you chucked dirt in the back of and got scratches on it.
You know the scary thing is that I first saw this clip on Simon Townsend's "Wonder World" - "The Angels...What did you think of them Woodrow..hahahahaha"
Angel City only in N.America, saw these guys in 1980, I was so impressed that I can't remember who they opened for? lol But I am a huge AC/DC fan so that is probably why I took a shine to this band.

@Eggy1963 I think it was the Kinks and Ray Davies sacked them as support because he was scared they were taking his audience...
The old English 'crush the Aussies when they're doing well' mentality is all the reasons why we need to be a republic and why ageing aussies need to die, fast!
@nzoz1980 WTF?? Yes it was the Kinks and they were kicked before the gig at Madison Square Gardens but it had phuck all to do with a republic. politics has phuck all to do with the music.
@EinMagillaGorilla by the way, this is my channel, my upload and granted, it isn't my music... but its still my upload and my comment section and i can say whatever the fuck I WANT!!!! Not all Australians are proud to be Aussie, nor are we ashamed of it. However, part of the problem with this country is little cunts like you trying to tell people how to think and what to do. It's a great country for breeding sheep and little dictators. Now fuck off! Oh sorry, you did four months ago.
@EinMagillaGorilla It's a comment section with a limited character capacity. As much I would enjoy ranting against your and pointing out the flaws in your own comment, I do have many other comments to read over, respond to, and delete.
However, I will resond to your initial response. Ray Davies was a troubled man. The Angels were not a powerful American institution. They were rock band only popular in Australia. What self-respecting Englishman wont take pleasure in pushing that around?
@nzoz1980 Plus, the font in this response box is small and often I make the mistake of leaving out words. That may not be your problem, but it is a problem I have been experiencing, seeing as I like to type with average size font. That's all I will say concerning my eloquence.
@Eggy1963 It was Ray Davies from the Kinks, he was so paranoid about the Angels he kicked them off the tour. But from what you said he was right, everyone loved the Angels and didn't remember him.
I have only seen two albums here in the states by these guys. I have even asked about trying to get their albums but no seems to know how to get them for me. What a shame. One of the very best bands to ever come from down under.
Doc is the bomb and all, but he is one of rock singers out there who needs to playing an instrument to avoid acting out the words he's singing in the video. Somebody give him a guitar, or a piano, or something. His gestures are too distracting!
I'm from across the ditch in New Zealand and I know - I remember rocking to this at uni in the early 80s.... :)
We can't help it if the groups from Down Under have to get an alternative name when they go to the US. Shihad (a NZ group) had the same problem - they had to change their name because the Americans thought they were called "Jihad"... I kid you not.
The group is actually called The Angels (their official name in Australia - Angel City being the name used for the American and Canadian market, as to avoid confusion with US metal band Angel). Dark Room is not their first album. It's their fourth album. The band released six albums in the eighties.
An America perspective is not always correct, so please check the facts next time. Thank you.
@nzoz1980 you are wrong according to the facts!! In 1974 they changed their name to The Keystone Angels, switched to electric instruments and began playing 1950s rock and roll on the pub circuit. In 1975, on the recommendation of Bon Scott and Malcolm Young from AC/DC, the band was offered a recording deal with the Alberts label. They dropped "Keystone" from their name and became simply "The Angels".
@deberrydh Why are you typing shit that I already know, when you're original statement (and you did write this as if it was factual) was that their debut was as follows:
The group is actually called Angel City (ONLY IN YOUR PART OF THE WORLD) and they are out of Austrailia (incorrect spelling). The had 2 or 3 albums out in the 80's and this was a cut off their 1st (BULLSHIT!).
I do not deny that my original statement about the group being called Angel City was not correct, however when someone tells me to check the facts (as you did) and then throws a blanket statement out there without all of the facts (as you did BULLSHIT) for the rest of the world (who may not know the whole story) is doing nothing to educate anyone. BTW I never said that the American perspective is always correct that was your implication. Which is BULLSHIT!!
@deberrydh I am just a fellow from the south that loves his rock and roll. I don't give a crap about the name of the band or their origination just as long as they rock!!
OMG takes me back I had this tape growing up. It got me to many BMX races. I had the USA version which I think was Angel City. Thanks for posting. I found one of my holy grails of music, "The Photos" surfing the net. Now have them on CD. One day maybe Ill own Angel City again
Too cool. I've been playing this song since around 1984 or so, with my present band adding it to the lineup two years ago, but I had never seen a video of it before.
The Angels (Angel City) are pretty well known amongst musicians in the Pacific Northwest of Canada and a fair number of their songs have been covered over the years. Long line, Marseille, Will I ever see your face and After the Rain after four others that come to mind.
@PfalzDIIIa Great stuff reading that your band and others in Canada, do covers of The Angels. " No Secrets " was always popular. Check out their live TV studio clip " Angels - After The Rain 1999 " It's as subtle as a sledgehammer!!!! Their still playing live in OZ, if you have the cash for the plane ticket. lol... Cheers.
If it sounds like 'aboot', you can be sure they're Canadian. 'Oot = out' and 'aboot = about'..........are you serious or are you on crack. Fucking stupid americans
Love Doc's voice, always been a big Angel's fan. The exciting news for me was when i met my fiancee 2 years ago, he told me that his old school friend manages the band

Excellent song and band,a lot of high school memories there, but he eerily reminds me of Craig Ferguson.

I think they opened on club dates for Steve Marriott or some bastardized "Steve Marriott's Humble Pie" thing for many North American dates

Your communication skills are outstanding! Second only to your mixed metaphors.
EinMagillaGorilla 1 year ago
@EinMagillaGorilla It's a comment section with a limited character capacity. As much I would enjoy ranting against your and pointing out the flaws in your own comment, I do have many other comments to read over, respond to, and delete.
However, I will resond to your initial response. Ray Davies was a troubled man. The Angels were not a powerful American institution. They were rock band only popular in Australia. What self-respecting Englishman wont take pleasure in pushing that around?
nzoz1980 1 year ago

His gestures are too distracting!

mangcat 1 year ago
They're ***definitely*** The Angels!
I kid you not.
latte123 1 year ago
The group is actually called Angel City and they are out of Austrailia. The had 2 or 3 albums out in the 80's and this was a cut off their 1st.
deberrydh 1 year ago
@deberrydh you are wrong!
Thank you.
nzoz1980 1 year ago 26
@nzoz1980 you are wrong according to the facts!! In 1974 they changed their name to The Keystone Angels, switched to electric instruments and began playing 1950s rock and roll on the pub circuit. In 1975, on the recommendation of Bon Scott and Malcolm Young from AC/DC, the band was offered a recording deal with the Alberts label. They dropped "Keystone" from their name and became simply "The Angels".
deberrydh 1 year ago
@deberrydh Oh one more thing they were called Moonshine Jug and String Band before they were Keystone Angels and released their debut in 1973.
deberrydh 1 year ago
@deberrydh Why are you typing shit that I already know, when you're original statement (and you did write this as if it was factual) was that their debut was as follows:
The group is actually called Angel City (ONLY IN YOUR PART OF THE WORLD) and they are out of Austrailia (incorrect spelling). The had 2 or 3 albums out in the 80's and this was a cut off their 1st (BULLSHIT!).
deberrydh
nzoz1980 1 year ago
@nzoz1980
Which is BULLSHIT!!
deberrydh 1 year ago
@deberrydh I am just a fellow from the south that loves his rock and roll. I don't give a crap about the name of the band or their origination just as long as they rock!!
That is my story and I am sticking to it!!

PfalzDIIIa 1 year ago
@PfalzDIIIa Great stuff reading that your band and others in Canada, do covers of The Angels. " No Secrets " was always popular. Check out their live TV studio clip " Angels - After The Rain 1999 " It's as subtle as a sledgehammer!!!! Their still playing live in OZ, if you have the cash for the plane ticket. lol... Cheers.
