  • Baking soda does not release a very toxic gas. When electrolised it releases co2.

  • nice mustang

  • wait so all your doing is trying to generate water???? whats the point

  • @chandlerbeckhoff generate HHO gas...

  • r u CRAZY why wernt u wearing gloves?????

  • oops.... read bottom to top lol

  • the reason NaHCO3 is not the better electrolyte is because your production of gas will also contain large amounts of oxygen and carbon dioxide. with NaOH you receive about the same conductivity and your gas will contain much less oxygen and no carbon dioxide. so with NaOH your "hydrogen" is more pure. when using salt the gas that is produced that you dont want to be breathing is chlorine gas... NaCl Cl = Chlorine... enjoy :)

  • ok. baking soda is NaHCO3. carbon dioxide is the gas produced. carbon dioxide is not toxic it is what you exhale. ok. so in electrolysis NaHCO3(baking soda) breaks down into sodium witch reacts with water and produces sodium hydroxide or NaOH... so..the hydrogen is bonded the carbon is released as a gas, and most of the oxygen is released as a gas.. so.

  • if compared and measured with an Ampmeter, would sodium hydroxide produce more energy or would baking soda produce more energy? which electrolyte would efficient energy wise? ... regardless of stains, temperature, and amount.

  • Howdy! First off, baking soda is inefficient and also corrodes stainless steel (although some people claim otherwise). Also, I'm not sure if it creates a poisonous gas like salt does, but if I remember right I heard that once. Anyway, NaOH is more efficient and acts as a better catalyst overall.

  • I think baking soda is sodium bicarbonate, so, I guess it could produce carbon dioxide.

  • You sound like my chemistry teacher... Anyways, good job with the experiment!
