  • machado is missing a whole set of fingers how the fuck was he supposed to punch. a hero

  • was cool to see a great jiu jitsu guy try all he can to apply his jiu jitsu.unfortunately its not enuf in mma.

  • Name of song?

  • jj machado is one tough motherfucker lol

  • Has Frank Trigg ever won by Rear Naked Choke?

  • thats why u got to be a well rounded fighter. if all ur good at or even great at is jiu jitsu and the other is alright at jiu jitsu and more well rounded with boxing, muay thai and wrestling he'll beat the better jiu jitsu fighter because he is more well rounded with takedown and submission defense. just keep the fight standing and dont submitted. and never ever give up top position. i love bjj I train it everyday for almost 4 years but I believe you have to be well rounded

  • Frank Trigg is a tough fighter and a real student of the game.

  • 2:27 almost had a seizure !

  • Frank Trigg is a very very good mediocre fighter lol

  • What is the name of this song and who is the artist?

  • To bash BJJ while Trigg knew BJJ is fucking stupid. Trigg had great takedown defense, good submission escapes and good at getting back to his feet on the ground and gave a brutal beating, including some very dangerous hits to the back of the head. Jean Jaques is like a top 10 BJJ guy. You guys is tarded.

  • jj got fucked up

  • BJJ is a very reliable form of martial art, much more practical than almost anything. But it must be modified....and yes, it can be used on concrete?

I've seen and heard of it used so much its unbelievable, I'm actually trained by a police officer/bjj practitioner, and uses it almost every time he has to subdue anyone in the street.

And of course you wouldn't be using it when your against multiple opponents, but thats a stupid argument to make, what style of fighting works 100% of time?

  • ande puto, no que muy chingon...

  • Trigg is a penis.

  • @kettlebelllifter you sound like a fool. MMA was brought to the US by the Gracies. In Brazil, Valetudo (MMA with headbutts, hair pulling and no gloves) was created as a means of challenging practitioners of other arts. And the reason why BJJ doesnt work here is because Triggs has studied enough of it to be able to avoid the attacks. Without any BJJ training Triggs would have lost the fight as soon as it went to the ground.

  • @salizar1 Vale tudo means "anything goes" it wasnt created as a means of challenging other arts. Thats what the ufc was initially created for by the gracies. Vale tudo had nothing to do with that.

  • @cryingindian No the UFC was the Gracies introduction of Vale tudo to the USA. It existed back to the 1920 certainly (mention of a bout between a Jujitsu practitioner and Capoeira in a Japanese publication 1928). But it was made popular in the late 50s by a show called ring heroes hosted by the Gracies. As a form of pitting legitimate practitioners of their arts.

  • training in no gi bjj is a good idea for an mma fighter

  • this should have been a grappling match

  • jj used too much bjj in this fight. shouldve striked more

  • @iistyleszii he had no striking ability and has no fingers on 1 hand. The old school gracie method hasnt worked in a decade in mma,it works like a charm on non grapplers.

  • fuck... I love jj but damn it didn't look like he trained stand up at all.. Hope to train at his brothers school here in Dallas soon

  • @dallasgangsta187 they didnt do any stand up,just takedowns against boxing gloves. The problem here is that against a good wrestler with bjj cop on and some striking, bjj alone is weak.In brazil or the early ufcs they never encountered these problems, the only gracies who ever did anything lately are crosstraining wrestling and striking.

  • frank trigg is a fuckin prick twat lesbian

  • Machado is truly a bjj legend, but if you can't get the fight on the ground, there's not much he can do. Trigg's not exactly my favorite fighter, but he did everything right, and is way too good a wrestler to get taken down by a pure bjj guy. Some of the best wrestling in mma at the time this fight took place. I always thought that if bjj guys used more wrestling for takedowns, they'd be unstoppable.

  • JJ Machado got his ass kick! keep doing the some thing poor bastard!

  • not nice. JJ Machado is a legend. don't think he was prepared for this one though. seemed to be walking into a lot of knees unnecessarily. don't think he really has any stand-up. pity cos it makes trigg look good.

  • @blueingreentrain

hi good on grown but stand up got his ass kick, in the street will loose his life!

  • who can say what would happen in the street. I saw a girl pissing behind a car from my window the other day.

  • well you British see everything, while you are drunk or watch soccer.

  • @blueingreentrain At this point trigg was one of the best in mma - NO SHAME in losing to him and Machado will always be the best Jiu Jitsu guy to have lived. I was very surprised to see no leg cloths or anything on machado. Sweat seems to have played a huge roll in the fight

  • DAMN! That was a beating. I was rooting for Machado, but Trigg was a beast! He was just to much MMA for the BJJ master. Both fighters were in tremendous shape, rocky shape.

  • Wow... never saw this fight until now... now I see why they threw him right in agianst Matt Hughes. At first I was like who the fuck is this guy? But at the time I was just really UFC and no other organization existed. Pretty dominating.

  • Very good Machado, only one hand and bjj god, but too onedimensional for mma

  • One question guys? What is that on the floor after the fight? His eye or tooth?

  • Its amazing how JJ Machado can fight with only one hand...

  • horrible referee stoppage. it was too late, and he only stopped it after the towel was thrown in.

  • JJM one of thee best grapplers around, heartbreaking to see him loose, but thats the reality of stepping into a mma fight with only one discipline. Still he took some massive blows and kept on rolling.

    Mean!

  • has nothing to do with the dicipline, it looked more like cardio, strengh conditioning and anarobic strength were missing. look at jacare, if you have the endurance and strenghth with bjj. you are more then competant against someone with triggs skills.

  • well that happens when u are a one dimensional fighter

  • yeah i agree. frank trigg competed against renzo gracie in adcc and only lost on points. if trigg wasnt well versed in bjj he would get subbed by and top level bjj guy his weight class

  • I agree with TopGameFighter, if Frank Trigg didn't know BJJ he would lost this fight, the fight went to the ground! In 1:49 Jean did a crucifixix (BJJ TECH) and Frank defended very well because he Knows BJJ!!!! BJJ is very efficient versus other "pure" martial art but Frank have many techs including BJJ!!!

  • Though I respect and train under a Machado-related school, the crucifix is NOT a BJJ technique. BJJ has so many thousands of moves I don't know why so many wrestling moves get absorbed and re-claimed as BJJ. It may be related to BJJ, but Trigg defended that move well because U.S. wrestlers learn that in grade school. It's ancient catch-wrestling, probably same roots as BJJ, but not from BJJ. Same with the Lister "twister", ancient sculptures in europe show this move. I used it as a kid c.1970's

  • the people who popularized the twister named it because it had no name and it was an effective move so it should be absorbed. It should be a good thing, emulation is the purest form of flattery. Eddie Bravo always recognizes the roots of that move as an old wrestling move.

  • BUT you are absolutely correct that much of the fight BJJ defense could only be done because Trigg learned BJJ. Same with Hughes vs. Gracie, and many others that had to learn BJJ to survive. I do however, wish people who bash Trigg could see this fight when he was less bulky, had great cardio, was quicker and downright efficient. That Trigg would have beaten Hughes.

  • Also, even though JJM is a world wide name in BJJ, this is his very first MMA fight ever, and it was against Trigg who now fights UFC, etc.

He would have destroyed anyone that didn't know some Jiu-jitsu, even with a bad hand., I'm sure. You still need BJJ!

  • Right on I totally agree dude, I have seen enough of him against other greats of BJJ and he is simply amazing. Against someone without even decent BJJ, would not have been a fight but just a warm-up for JJM

  • I'll asmit one thing...JJ did forget to focus more on his strikings. Like Marcelo Garcia too. While they are the world's best grapplers...if they forget to strike & block strikes because these MMA fighters also have some grappling skills too (GSP anyone??). Still...BJJ RULEZ!!!!

  • Trigg just brutalized machado. Trigg just looked so much bigger than JJ machado

  • so many people here bashing bjj, do you not remember any of the gracie's fights where they took on people double even triple their weight? its quick to say how bad it is, remember JJ only has one hand (unless you considere a pinky and thumb a hand) and for you to bash bjj like you could have done better against trigg? so many quick to bash bjj when it is one of the best self defensive arts around, alone its hard for mma, but remember some of royce's fights

  • @longbeach5446 There you say it, alone it's hard for "MMA". Most takedowns, and submissions are done in BJJ with gi, which always made it more a streetfighting style and not an mma style. People on the street wear clothes. MMA uses the "swimwear" to fight. Basicly because it's more dynamic and the strikers have more opportunities because it's much easier to avoid the grip without clothes. MMA is great, but basicly NOT what bjj was ment for. Yet even without clothes, the style works pretty good !

  • @KettlebellLifter sorry bro but the collar chokes and use of the gi in bjj just dosent work with t shirts and shorts the same

  • @ohitsubob We've done training with (old) t shirts that can be torn. A lot of chokes with the t shirt just as good, but of course most of them are torn afterwards. The gi is much stronger of course.

  • @ohitsubob some collar chokes do work with tshirts and will tear the neck off them as well, you just have to grab a bunch of material so it wont tear. What doesnt work is sleeve and collar control grips in a t shirt.

  • @KettlebellLifter on the contrary,in brazil, shorts with bare chests or just light tshirts were the norm all year round and all old vale tudo fighters wore speedo trunks except some bjj lads who sometimes wore gis.Any bjj lad in mma does lots of wrestling and no gi training and the gi isnt an issue. There are several lads who havent worn a gi for years.

  • @longbeach5446 bjj is one of the best self defensives but only if its one on one and not if your on a road or concrete or hard ground, so if one guy attacks you in a park or on a beach look out don't get me wrong i love it and have been training for 3 years but is is a sport

  • @willymunroe I get the point you're making and I'm not pretending to know it all but the last thing you think about when street fighting is what surface you're fighting on. The adrenaline masks any pain or discomfort. Plus most fools that attack people for no reason when you're out and about have no knowledge of grappling what so ever, bjj is very handy in a fight.

  • @longbeach5446 What is wrong with his other hand?

  • @Svittidiu He was born with a deformed hand that essentially only has a pinky and a thumb....

  • @longbeach5446 It doesn't matter wich Martial Art do you practice, it will always depend on your ability and your predisposition in any fight. Check Machida using Karate, Check Royce using BJJ, Cung Le using Sanda. It doens't matter wich MA you practice, it will always depend how good, dedicated and tough you are.

  • really billysue2? cause im pretty sure JJ Machado could cripple you with bjj alone

  • He probably would but Im not a profighter or been training since childhood. He got hammered here because all he had was bjj and he completely ignored striking defense.

  • he only has one functioning hand guy. give him a break.

  • Even back in 1998 BJJ alone wasn't effective once people started understanding the ground game.

  • Bellysue2, do you know Demian Maia?

  • Trigg is a monster - in losing to him Machado lost no respect.

Saying bjj fighters have weak chins and are not strong is a generalization and a mistake.

I don't think it proves "high-end" jiujitsu is bs - it did show that jj was not able to utilyze it under constant battering from a very good wrestler, bjj AND striking fighter.

  • in machados defense, trigg stated that he had already had a number of mma fights already while this was machados mma debut. This shows, but it also shows how alot of high end bjj is B.S. JJ constantly trying to hug the leg look silly and was a invitation to a knee in the face. less bjj and some more standup grappling and striking would have made his grappling work better IMO.

  • jj has world class bjj but as an mma fighter hes not very good. jiu jitsu alone isnt enough for contemporary mma. bjj guys have weak chins and they arent powerful

  • It's hard to believe this was 10 years ago. Trigg is still a top 10 fighter where many guys peter out with age. Trigg was actually the first guy that gave me hope that Matt Hughes could possibly be beat in his prime. I thought he had it! Trigg would destroy him today. (IMO)
