I saw her at the Syria Mosque in Pittsburgh--she did just about the entire album backed by Tom Scott & LA Express--never, ever will forget it fantastic, love her
i lived in the smokie mountains in the seventies . ihad every album she ever madeand the only one that was ever strange to me was mingus who was a mentor to david amram who is one of the greatest musicians alive or who ever has lived
This song and Help Me were both written about Glen Fry of the Eagles with whom Joni was connected with romantically in 1974 and not about Jackson Brown who Joni did not like.
Joni couldn't stay with one man very long, but she always took her loneliness with her when she went - would have been hard to love her, and yet inevitably see her leave
@SupernalOne@SupernalOne ... actually that's Wilton Felder on bass (not Jaco), a west coast studio musician who was once a house bassist at Motown Records (you'll have heard him play on the Jackson 5's 'I Want You Back'). But not only that he was a sax player with the mega-successful jazz fusion group The Crusaders (check out 'Street Life'). There's a cool hi-def Youtube video of him playing 'Street Life' at Montreux in 2003 with Randy Crawford on vocals. Check it out. Really good stuff.
I've been sitting up waiting for my sugar to show I've been listening to the sirens and the radio He said he'd be over three hours ago I've been waiting for his car on the hill He makes friends easy He's not like me I watch for judgement anxiously Now where in the city can that boy be Waiting for a car Climbing Climbing Climbing the hill He's a real good talker--I think he's friend Fast tires come screaming around the bend But there's still no buzzer They roll on... And-I'm waiting for his buzz
This is so great man! Funkiest damned riff ever!! Thanks for posting, brings back cool 70's vinyl memories. Used to lie back at the end and listen to the cars cross the speakers on my dad's hi-fi!
@pescaterian11 Yes! 'Car On A Hill' is one of my fav's as well. In fact I probably like 'Court and Spark' a bit more than 'Blue' . Shhhhhh, did I say that? Yes I did. Take care.
My big brother Wayne Perkins is playing slide on this song! Pretty sweeeet~

This song is for any one who has loved someone more than that someone has loved her/him

sounds like Jaco's bass harmonics -

Car on a hill is great. What a song. Musically it's so complexe and the lyrics are pure poetry

Court and Spark is my favourite Joni album. I love Blue too, but Court and spark is more... diverse.
