  • This is much more funky.

  • It's unnecessary to say Gil is the master. I'm sure Bataan will be the first to aknowledge it. The point of this version is not to be better than the original. It's to pay a homage, while, unlike so many versions in the world of music, displaying a personal interpretation and shedding a new light to the original theme. Bottom line, it does more than simply copying for the sake of copying and earning a few bucks from sucking the original artist's creativity dry, therefore this is Art and good Art

  • Come see Joe 9/10/11 at Pt. Fermin Park, San Pedro CA for the 20th Annual Festival of Philippine Arts & Culture. It's a $9 ticket...cheap compared to other venues.

  • both versions are good, why people allways gotta hate on good music...i know why cuz you lack rythm.

  • fantastic version

  • Hey Sula remember hanging out wit Joe Bataan? I even danced wit him to Mujer Mia at The City and I asked him to sing . Reluctant at first, he sang wit it...lol

  • reminds me of dancing to it at la valbonne , london in the 70s with dj cas the gas

  • Joe Bataan, Vudu Cafe, The East Los Blues Band, all together on one night....SATURDAY, AUGUST, 13, 2011 at the beautiful GALAXY CONCERT THEATRE in Santa Ana, California. Tickets on sale now at the Galaxy box office and all TICKETMASTER locations. Another DRAKE ENTERTAINMENT PRODUCTION.

  • Excellent . . both G.S.H version and this.

  • i am ashamed somewhat to say I did not even know this WASN'T the original version.. THIS was the one I heard on the airways and dance floors all over New York back in the day. I promise to check out Gil Scott Heron's, but it was this one that had me hustling all over nightclubs in Manhattan in the 70's, and this will forever be first in my heart.

  • Man!! You got all the good stuff.....

  • Different then Gil's but good in its own right-

  • Nice instrumental version of this tune.

  • love him

  • This version is classy and very good, but to top the original is difficult.

I think this was a big seller when it came out back in the days, and was one of salsouls big songs then.

  • david sanborn on sax!

  • Wow! Thanks for this download dude. This song reminds me of my departed father who grew up with very little but had a rich history and taste in good music. This song was a part of his collection and I could recall playing this over and over as a 10 year old in 1975 when this particular classic tune came out. Muchos gracias Joe Bataan and Gil Scot-Heron... Papi rest in peace....I miss you

  • Gil Scott Heron's version (the original recording, on the Strata-East album, not the later re-recording on Arista) was a Blackpool Mecca anthem back in 1974 through early '75. I believe this instrumental version also got some spins. It has a touch of "Kay-Jee" about it I think - ie. a Latin-Soul feel (not surprisingly!). Very nice indeed.

  • @drwhatson ......Agreed, always liked this version.......has a touch of class about it.

  • Amazing show, Mr. Bataan! After all these years, you still got it! Jun 13, Sta Clara, CA.

  • Make plans now to see the King of Latin Soul himself...Mr. Joe Bataan at the Galaxy Concert Theatre in Santa Ana on Sunday, May 30. Backing Joe up will be the Raza All Star Band, Comedian Gilbert Esquivel, and in a special tribute to Mr. Bataan, Canela. Tickets on sale now at the Galaxy Box office. Another Drake Entertainment production.

  • This track is more beautiful and lyrical than original...I love this.

  • unbeatable dance track!

  • Soulchinchilla On my 12" record of the Gil Scot heron version, Gil says at the beginning " . . . and we're going to get a liitle help here, Mister Brian Jackson on flute"

  • This was a great 'talk-over' record (and still is), and was a favourite of the late Stuart Henry (Radio Luxembourg). Check out the original by Gil Scott Heron with Brian Jackson on flute.

  • @jerrylefever kind sir you will probably find that hubert laws plays flute on the aformentioned

    mr jackson plays the traps.

  • 4 bboyz and bgirlz....and...all poeple ;)

  • It seems to me that Gil Scott Heron, Joe Bataan along with so many people of that era, were the actually the people who created Hip-hop.. Gotta do some research. Gotta give credit where credit is due

  • @DemitriousMercury TRUE...THE ORIGINAL BREAK BEATS...FOR THE BREAK BOY..AKA B BOY...FOR EXAMPLE.."CALL MY NAME"..BAD JAM ...TO DANCE TOO...AND MANY MORE...KNOWLEDGE IS POWER!!!

  • ye, gil scott heron is the inventor of rap.

  • H-O-T !!!

  • UNA PASADA!!!

  • 103rd and Lexington part of East Harlem where he briefly lead the Dragons, a street gang before being sent to the Coxsackie Correctional Facility to serve time for a stolen car charge.

In 1973, he helped coin the phrase "salsoul," lending its name to his first post-Fania album. Along with the Cayre brothers, he co-founded Salsoul label, though later sold out his interest. He recorded three albums for Salsoul and several singles, including "Rap-O Clap-O," from 1979 which became an hip hop hit.
