my australian rainbow lorrokeet did excactly the same thing but under an old wine unit and would only let me near it.this would occur twice a year until acarpet snake got up on the balcony and killed her but wasn't able to eat her because of an old injury the bird which was a fused shoulder and the wing stood out at right angle.it was a sad day but she was 20 yrs old and thats more than she would have got in the wild
I liked this video because i completely understand the lack of trust she would normally give you. I congratulate how much love you must have given her to achieve this.
shes beautiful! And you are quite smart about blue and golds. I used to have a moluccan cockatoo male and he would sit on a marble egg, he would have been a good daddy if we would let him have a mate. Hes too big of a baby to have babies
My birds suck so I have to trap both of em in the nest turns out that egg wasn't there's cuz it was a parrot so that's why they didn't like the egg :D
I love your videos. The birds are all beautiful... I never knew about this condition called "egg bound". It's interesting that calcium helps this. Also I've never seen hyacinth macaws before and your video of the two playing at the store is great.
She was brought in many years ago, we guess over 25 years ago when importing was legal.
My wife rescued her from a person that was abusing her, and it took 6 months to get her to trust people again.
Normally, you are correct-no way could you approach a female nesting. But in our case, she has completely accepted us and trusts us to the extent that she lets us "into her nest"
Great question! Normally, when birds are nesting they are VERY aggressive towards anyone or anything approaching their nest. However, this Macaw allows my wife or I "into her nest" which is really on the floor, in the corner of our aviary.
However, if anyone else attempts to get close to her eggs she spreads her wings wide and will attempt to attack.
Very interesting video. I have a 38 year old B&G. She started laying eggs about a month ago...one every 3 days. In fear of depleting calcium, I got 2 chicken eggs from a local farmer and put them in her cage. She's been a wonderful mother. If they are fertile, they are due to hatch tomorrow or day after. My baby also lets me go into her nest, touch her, her eggs, etc. She's very gentle while being a wonderful mama to the eggs. I"m excited to see what will happen.
how much did she cost?

they nest in holes in the trees and people will climb and take them out off the hole while they are young so they will be easier to tame

You are right to let her sit on her eggs. My bird makes a nest out of my bathroom rugs every year. lol

She is beautiful. I was amazed at how she let you touch her. She is so sweet to be a wild caught macaw. You are doing a wonderful job with her.
