Is this Stuart's voice or is it dubbed by another? Lesley's I remember because I knew her already at the time from her other work, but since I've never seen Stuart elsewhere until The Saint's Ex-King of Diamonds (precursor to The Persuaders with Tony Curtis taking the role Stuart created), I can't tell. He was wonderful in the part of the Prince regardless; I think Walter Pidgeon played the king, his father, and Ginger Ro(d?)gers the queen, his mother.. I just loved the whole show!
@russedav5 Without a doubt this is Mr. Damon singing! (I've heard him sing many times.) I'm surprised anyone would question it. His singing voice is a perfect match to his speaking voice. Not only does Mr. Damon have a beautiful voice, he has perfect singing technique. His diction, phrasing and breath control - perfection! Watch his chest (deep breaths from the diaphram - shoulders barely move when he's taking a breath) and his throat if you want to know if he's truly singing. :-)
"(I've heard him sing many times.) I'm surprised anyone would question it."
I'm not questioning, I'm genuinely ignorant! I envy you. I've never heard or seen him except in Cinderella and he's one of the nicest guys I've ever seen, no surprise because of his many years as a good husband and dad; they don't make 'em like that any more! Do you know of any other of his musical performances or acting performances besides Champions? I'm mad I can find no US region edition..
@russedav5 Mr. Damon was on General Hospital for almost 30 years. During that time he sang a number of times. He even did a version of "10 Minutes" for one Nurse's Ball. Keep in mind he was in his late 20's during Cinderella. He was on GH for a number of yrs before they took advantage of his voice. So for GH his age spans 40's to 70's and the voice isn't quite as pure and strong as it was in his 20's, but it's still beautiful to me. :-) Just do a search of "Stuart Damon singing".
Does anyone know why this was cut from the South Pacific score? Is there any written information/interview with RR speaking about this choice? I cannot imagine seeing south Pacific with this song, as well.
I love how Ginger Rodgers subtly lifts the side of her gown that you like and flicks it. Such stars-fun to watch. I wish I could have been a fly on the wall with design sessions between Ginger Rodgers and the costume designer. Does Queen Elizabeth wear a tight fitting leotard at formal functions with her entire upper body exposed? No, but Ginger Rodgers would. Go superstars!
This was during an era when actors needed to hone their craft. There are no computerized enhancements or vocal adjustments to make them look or sound better than they are. The set looks as if it was done in elementary school in Arkansas. Who cares? It does not matter. Walter Pidgeon's diction, Ginger Rodgers star quality, lovely Leslie, and a true prince with a voice who can act, along with this R&H score, you have magic. Do not forget how great Mr. Loring's choreography is.
Do you mean the Queen's dress, or Cinderella's dress?
The Queen is played by Ginger Rodgers. I am enchanted to think that Ginger Rodgers is wearing a pink leotard and then, a yellow leotard. Queens do not wear leotards. But, Ginger Rodgers does. I was not there to witness the battles between the costumer and Ginger Rodgers. But, I bet that Ginger Rodgers insisted, saying that she cannot dance in those cumbersome dresses that everyone else is wearing at the ball.
@fishyfish4444 lol! It is actually the pink dress Ginger Rodgers wears during the ball? I adore that dress. when I was younger I wanted to wear that dress to go out trick or treating but I could never seem to get it...:(
This is my favorite song from this version of Cinderealla, and I would have loved to have heard in it the 1997 movie as well. I've seen all 3 versions and they each have their best lines and songs, and one film can't hog them all. ^_^
Stuart Damon was my very first crush. I remember watching this as a five-year-old and thinking that the Prince was the greatest thing since sliced bread. What a voice! What eyes! My opinion hasn't changed much.
@somuchwhatever Well it wasn't exactly "cut" from South Pacific if you count that it did appear as a poem that de Becque sends to Nellie in the movie version, but I think you could sort of tell it was meant to be in South Pacific because of the lyric "silver flaked sea".....Good song though!
@Justlov4 Now that would have been amazing to see and hear. I don't know if your a Carpenter fan, I got to meet Richard Carpenter four years ago. Tht was huge highlight for me. LoL
@barryt60 - Richard has his own entertainment center. Type in Carpenter center in your search engine and you will find a calender of events. I flew out there thinking I wanted to move to the west coast at the time. He was performing that weekend. I checked out the apartment and Richard as well. The encounter was brief, but it was great.
I never liked this song when I was younger, but it has found a place in my heart along with all the other songs from this movie. thanks for posting :)
@desertrose777 I agree, when I was younger, I felt this song came out of no where with no point and just didn't move the story along, now I know why...and I love it!

nice song. and stuart damon has a great, strong, clear, noble voice that really makes him a believable prince and a pleasure to listen to.

I was so sad when they left this out of the 1997 T.V. version with Brandy. Imagine this song in Paolo Montalban's voice!
mewcat95662 3 years ago 5
It really is just a lovely song. Makes me wonder why it didn't make the cut in South Pacific - I think it would have fit in well.
somuchwhatever 3 years ago 6
In the movie version of "South Pacific", there's a part where Emile writes Nellie a poem using this song's lyrics.
dsneybuf 2 years ago
@somuchwhatever Well it wasn't exactly "cut" from South Pacific if you count that it did appear as a poem that de Becque sends to Nellie in the movie version, but I think you could sort of tell it was meant to be in South Pacific because of the lyric "silver flaked sea".....Good song though!
