Wow. Imagine if we were to go back into time and find all our favorite disney characters on opening day. What a big difference they would be. I didn't even recognize Mickey and Minnie until they said their names.
What I wouldn't give to have been there that day. I love Disneyland, and would love to work there someday. To give joy to someone like so many people there have given joy to me. :)
The Mouseketeers made their debut at the opening of Disneyland. Mickey and Minnie Mouse were just about to open the doors and bring them out when it was cut out. Also, during the parade Art Linkletter had a hard time introducing them. He had no idea what a Mouseketeer was. I didn't see that either. Why did you cut out the Mouseketeer segments?
Whoa! I well remember as a tyke watching the grand opening of Disneyland at a neighbor boy's house. It was so very very special then, and still is. Disney on Sunday nights was one of the best parts of my childhood. Disney's optimism, hope, and vision continue in so many ways. God bless you Walt Disney!
I went recently with a friend....we did it on a budget we did not overspend on souvenirs or eat in the park too much, we ate in places around the park and shared meals, plus we stayed farther away. We only spent about 400 each....including the park, hotel and meals.
That's for a semi pass to Disney. I live here in Los angeles and we only spent 300 bucks for the 5 of us. If it's the annual or semi yearly pass it's over a hundred bucks but you can pay in payments if u can't afford it at once and you get discounts if u have those :) it's worth it. If you haven't been there don't complain just go and have fun.
I have a friend who recently took his two kids & wife along with a friend of his & his wife & two kids to Disneyland; it cost $1000.00 for a couple of days ($152.00 x 8 = $1000.00). That was JUST TO GET IN THE DOOR.
I don't think that Walt intended a couple of families with kids to have to pay (even in 2010) so damn much to get in for the privilege of standing in long lines all day to get on a few rides or eat with your family. Disney is out of control! Their total bill for 2 days...$1630.00!
im not a fan of anything disney but i love watching things like this purely to see what the world was like back then...its so nice how the kids dress and the ladies are so sweet looking and the men actually look like gentlemen...sad how it changed...and while im at it LMAO at the mickey and minnie costumes!
ok i have to say it, the jungle cruise needs major updateing, i mean its been the same pretty much from the begining, i just hope one day it is updated, other than that thanks for posting and may we all take something from disneyland in our hearts.
Thank you for sharing this with the world! I was actually there in July 1955, but not on this first day. Been there so many times since, through all of its changes over the years...and even worked for Disney Studios. So, I guess I am a Major Disney Fan!
Thank you for posting all of the parts was wonderfu. My daughter is a part of the 55th today as a cast member. You just might see her at 4:15 in the part. Enjoy...
OK, that's it, I'm building a time machine so I could be there opening day! Thank you so much for posting this, this is truly history in the making! 10 Stars!!!

what a horrible production, i was laughing histerically at the end when they get theyr arms all hooked together, and all the technical problems were funny too
Thank you so, so very much for posting this wonderful piece of, not only Disney, but American history! I would love some day to visit Disneyland and walk in the footsteps of Walt Disney, the man who made so many dreams come true for so many people. We miss you Walt!
If you go there directly at the beginning of the day or right after the fireworks, as in stand at the ropes and wait for the fireworks to be over, you won't have a long wait at all.

"The Chicken of the Sea Pirate ship." That's funny!
Can you imagine if we made boys go to Disneyland wearing ties today? It would be considered child abuse! At least the girls could wear sun dresses.
Funny to hear the description of Mr. Toad's ride. Sounds like it hasn't changed.

Why is the Mouseketeers section cut out? When Mickey & Minnie opened the Fantasyland Theatre the original Mouseketeers should have come out.
