I think Aaron is amazing but to be honest I heard Aaron sing this song before i heard Kyle sing it so my ear automatically thinks Aaron is better. But I think they both can sing! I am just used to hearing Aaron singing this. I wish I saw either of these boys when I saw it but instead I saw Curt which sounded waaayy different then either of them but I guess he can sing too!
Honestly, this ins't how I remember Kyle sounding when I saw him in this show. It's a lovely version but something is a little bit off for me. Oh, well. It will certainly help to ease my N2N withdrawals

@hugoarr12 I don't know if anyone has answered you but it is Curt Hansen. He was Kyle's understudy I believe. He is ok, but I didnt particularly love him. I personally think Aaron and Kyle are both better but some people like him a lot. But the show as a whole was like the greatest experience of my life haha. So ridiculously incredible.

I saw this show last Sunday, it was so good! gave me goosebumps all over my body. Go see it now, Marin Mazzie and Jason Danieley are so great on stage together! Also, Kyle does one hell of an amazing job, he's so talented and really nails the performance! best show ever!

This video gave me a new appreciation for his voice. You can hear all the subtleties that you can't hear in the big old echoey Booth Theatre.
Its a lot less frantic and demanding than Tveit's, but they can't really be compared because they really are two completely different renditions of the same role.
Kyle is my Gabe. Aaron Tveit played him too arrogantly and Kyle plays him perfectly. A beautiful portrayal of the character and I think Kyle was spot on with it. Aaron... not so much.

I just saw Kyle on Thursday and he totally blew this through the roof. I was amazed by how much power he has behind his voice. There's something to be said for seeing him live. He's absolutely fantastic and incredible. If there was anyone on Broadway to replace Aaron, Kyle was definitely it.
Everyone thinks he just really nasily but really its a type of musical theater singing that is head voice and it is really forward and nasily so it sounds like your belting but your really singing in your head voice. He probably did it for this so he didn't ruin his voice for the actual shows.

Good performance, but I have to join w/ the majority here in saying that I appreciate Aaron better, not for any particular technical or interpretational difference, but because Aaron makes singing seem effortless. I can hear Kyle working to sing properly, with Aaron, it just flows out of his mouth. It is not at all Kyle's fault that he has to succeed a god of musical theatre, and I think he does a wonderful job, but Aaron will forever be my fave
My only real issue with him is he is too nasal in my opinion, his new understudy, Brian Crum, I think is better, but of course Aaron Tveit will always be my favorite. He was just brilliant.
it sounds like he's trying to match his voice with aaron's. to me, he sounds like a wanna-be. it's especially apparent when he does the chorus, starting on that high g--the tone gets super thin, whereas at about 2:25, on the word "behind," as well as at the end (after the "yeah, yeah, I'm alive) he shows a whole lot more grounding and body to his voice and he stops trying to be aaron. it sounds much better. i say be your own voice and bring your own self to the character.
@logues85 I'm sure that if he didn't listen to Aaron's rendition...It would sound exactly the same. Don't compare, don't hate, and stop looking so far into it.
P.S. They're playing the same character, they can't frey too far from being the same.
Both Kyle and Aaron are brilliant. I saw Kyle back in March and thought he was phenomenal. I've only listened to Aaron on the soundtrack and watched his performances on Youtube, but I have to admit that I do prefer him. The reason however, is not that I'm used to him or that he's "so much better." Rather, I think Kyle looks and sounds too old for the part. Aaron brings a kind of youthfulness to the role, in my opinion, whereas with Kyle, I find it hard to believe that he'd be 18. That's just me.
so i saw it with aaron (awesome) and my friend recently saw it with kyle and she said that this wasn't that great of a musical so i definitely think that aaron makes it the world's best musical. of course, i sound like a dying walrus anytime i sing, so i will say that kyle is pretty good
I've seen him as Gabe and he's okay. His voice doesn't mesh as well as Aaron's did with the rest of the cast; you can especially hear it in "Just Another Day." But, he's good.

@sarika09 yeah...he said the right lyrics, but the notes he sung to it "I'm alive" is used later on in the song. At that part it's a lower tune...he just sang the wrong part of the song...lol the only reason i know this is because i'm a looser musical theater nerd haha
I like it. definitely not Aaron but a fun take on the character, seems almost a little more sly instead of forceful in his attempts to take over her mind. A fine alternative to Aaron in order to allow Aaron to work on CMIYC
Most musicians are better in a more confined space. It's hard to perform in a more open air environment. Kyle is amazing live...I would have to say that I like him better than Tveit.
Y'all are crazy; I'm glad I got to see the show with Kyle in it, he was mindblowingly good. This recording doesn't do him any justice and I find it unfair to judge him based on this.

I don't really like this all that much. It's pretty good, but I prefer Aaron's version. Kyle seems too nasal, and he runs sharp throughout the entire song. Still very impressive though.
This video, along with other videos of him, do him no justice. i saw him over the summer when he took over the role when aaron was gone, and he was amazing, especially during this song. if you get to see him in the show, you will see how he fits the character really well.
It is never fair to compare someone to the original, especially when the original is aaron. Kyle makes the part his own and he has a different kind of voice. IMHO, he is great.
It's totally unfair to compare replacements to the original cast, but I have to say I like the sound of Aaron's voice more. I'm not saying Kyle is a bad singer, or that he has a bad voice. Not at all. I'm just typically more fond of a... hmm... "richer/darker?" sound in a voice. Many people would disagree. Just my preference.
I saw him as Gabe, and although I was sad I didn't get to see Aaron Tveit, Kyle Dean Massey did an excellent rendition of Gabe. He definitely captured Gabe's aura at the show. :]
He's okay, but he doesn't quite have to emotional connection that Aaron does... he doesn't really sell this song as a teenager punk like it's supposed to be.
He is good, don't get me wrong. But his diction is almost too good for this song. I feel like he is a "musical theatre" singer trying to do this show that is not your typical musical. You need that rock edge for this song, and he makes it sound too pretty.
I like Kyle's voice a lot. I've actually seen him in the role... However in this video... he goes off pitch a few times, it might just be from singing outside tho, thats tough sometimes
Ok, we all get it. "Aaron is great" but the point of theatre is to enjoy whatever someone puts out there so please just stop. Kyle does an awesome rendition and takes this role with a new approach so you can't compare him with Aaron. No one should compare anyways. I saw Aaron and I'm excited to see Kyle go on for Gabe also. Kyle's great, but I think Aaron is beyond amazing. No one can ever play Gabe like Aaron. But I think if we knew nothing about Aaron playing the role of Gabe, we would think Kyle is fantastic.
I had the Cast Recording for a couple of months before seeing the show in June and as much as I loved Aaron on the recording, Kyle's performance was absolutely amazing
I'm going to miss Aaron. I'm going to New York in February and I was hoping to see Aaron as Gabe....but I guess that won't happen :-( I'm still for Team Tveit.

Truly after seeing both Aaron and Kyle, I have to say that I liked Kyle better, although both gave absolutely stellar performances. I dunno if Aaron was feelin it all the way when I saw him, but I just thought Kyle gave more feeling to the character. He's really Gabe to me.

so i saw it with aaron (awesome) and my friend recently saw it with kyle and she said that this wasn't that great of a musical so i definitely think that aaron makes it the world's best musical. of course, i sound like a dying walrus anytime i sing, so i will say that kyle is pretty good

I've seen him as Gabe and he's okay. His voice doesn't mesh as well as Aaron's did with the rest of the cast; you can especially hear it in "Just Another Day." But, he's good.

and to everyone bashing this performance, it is not doing him justice. I've seen both him AND aaron live, and they were both fantastic. I have to say though, i liked kyle better. This video lies! lol

@sarika09 yeah...he said the right lyrics, but the notes he sung to it "I'm alive" is used later on in the song. At that part it's a lower tune...he just sang the wrong part of the song...lol the only reason i know this is because i'm a looser musical theater nerd haha

I like it. definitely not Aaron but a fun take on the character, seems almost a little more sly instead of forceful in his attempts to take over her mind. A fine alternative to Aaron in order to allow Aaron to work on CMIYC

Most musicians are better in a more confined space. It's hard to perform in a more open air environment. Kyle is amazing live...I would have to say that I like him better than Tveit.

I like Aaron a little better, I think his voice has a little more intensity for this song but Kyle is hotter, which doesn't really make a difference.

Y'all are crazy; I'm glad I got to see the show with Kyle in it, he was mindblowingly good. This recording doesn't do him any justice and I find it unfair to judge him based on this.
IMO he did better than Aaron Tveit, but I haven't seen the show with Aaron so my judgement isn't fair either... just based on the soundtrack and clips from youtube...

I don't really like this all that much. It's pretty good, but I prefer Aaron's version. Kyle seems too nasal, and he runs sharp throughout the entire song. Still very impressive though.

This video, along with other videos of him, do him no justice. i saw him over the summer when he took over the role when aaron was gone, and he was amazing, especially during this song. if you get to see him in the show, you will see how he fits the character really well.
It is never fair to compare someone to the original, especially when the original is aaron. Kyle makes the part his own and he has a different kind of voice. IMHO, he is great.

It's totally unfair to compare replacements to the original cast, but I have to say I like the sound of Aaron's voice more. I'm not saying Kyle is a bad singer, or that he has a bad voice. Not at all. I'm just typically more fond of a... hmm... "richer/darker?" sound in a voice. Many people would disagree. Just my preference.
Kyle sure is cute, though! lol.

I saw him as Gabe, and although I was sad I didn't get to see Aaron Tveit, Kyle Dean Massey did an excellent rendition of Gabe. He definitely captured Gabe's aura at the show. :]

He is good, don't get me wrong. But his diction is almost too good for this song. I feel like he is a "musical theatre" singer trying to do this show that is not your typical musical. You need that rock edge for this song, and he makes it sound too pretty.

I like Kyle's voice a lot. I've actually seen him in the role... However in this video... he goes off pitch a few times, it might just be from singing outside tho, thats tough sometimes

Ok, we all get it. "Aaron is great" but the point of theatre is to enjoy whatever someone puts out there so please just stop. Kyle does an awesome rendition and takes this role with a new approach so you can't compare him with Aaron. No one should compare anyways. I saw Aaron and I'm excited to see Kyle go on for Gabe also. (:

Kyle's great, but I think Aaron is beyond amazing. No one can ever play Gabe like Aaron. But I think if we knew nothing about Aaron playing the role of Gabe, we would think Kyle is fantastic.

I had the Cast Recording for a couple of months before seeing the show in June and as much as I loved Aaron on the recording, Kyle's performance was absolutely amazing

I saw Aaron and he just blew everything out of the water.
BUT I also saw Tim Young (u/s) Aaaaaaand He was waayyyyy better than this guy. And almost a little better than Aaron.
I don't see why they didn't give the part to Tim Young (because he IS the understudy) while Aaron was out..... :/

He's much more nasilily than Aaron. My teacher saw this guy and like, loves him. Aaron's falsetto is stronger and makes this song seem effortless. This guy is good too though.

i saw the show with both kyle and Aaron and and although kyle did great he wasn't even close to Aaron. Aaron made me "hate" gabe when kyle just made me dislike him. Also Aarons voice is much better.

Truly after seeing both Aaron and Kyle, I have to say that I liked Kyle better, although both gave absolutely stellar performances. I dunno if Aaron was feelin it all the way when I saw him, but I just thought Kyle gave more feeling to the character. He's really Gabe to me.
