I'm also pretty sure UNC will win another title before Kansas does and just in case you didn't realize it, UNC overtook KU at the end of the last season for 2nd all-time for overall wins. i have been a kansas fan since 1989(the beginning of roys era) and he was greatthe man made Ku what it is today. But there is a "toughness" that roys teams lacked that Bill Selfs teams have. I do not remeber alot of comebacks by roys Ku teams...But i have watched at least 10 huge comebacks by Self's Ku. Thats called toughness.u ask me..? Ill take Self everyday of the week including Sunday over Williams, and my fav win of alltime? whooping UNC in the 08 final 4 baby!!!!! go jayhawks!!!!

Bill Self is better? 2 Natty Titles> 1 Natty Title, even though I will admit that it is easier to win at UNC than Kansas.

Also other than the 2008 NCAA Tournament, Bill Self has been average in the NCAA Tournament.

Kansas shouldn't blame Roy for coming back to home to a better state and a better program. There is a reason why Dean Smith never came back to that sorry excuse of a state and adopted North Carolina as his home.

Why are KU fans so bitter that Roy left KU for UNC in '03? UNC was and will ALWAYS be Roy Williams' home and Dean Smith even sat down and told Roy that "It's not 2000 anymore, we REALLY need you this time."

He could have cemented his legacy at Kansas, which is something he won't be able to do at UNC unless he wins more Championships than UCLA. It doesn't matter now though. The way KU thrashed UNC in 2008 gives us hope for the future.

Yeah, what bennybob said is wrong. They made some good teams look like crap last year during their run. Pundits were predicting upsets in nearly every game. Some even figured they might lose to LSU! And Illinois was favored and stacked in '05, as was Michigan in '93. Plus, UNC isn't exactly facing off against Baylor every week during conference play, either.

Plus unlike Roy's teams, Self's team actually plays defense. Defense is the reason why we won the natl. championship, and if UNC doesn't learn how to play it this year in 09, they will choke again!

As a KU fan, I appreciate everything Roy did for KU but that is then, and this is now. Bill Self did an unbelivable job last year, leading the Jayhawks to the natl. championship, and winning it. There is no doubt Kansas got a huge coaching upgrade.

This argument is retarded. Both schools have rich history they actually owe in large part to each other. Dean Smith, a Jayhawk, built a monster program in Chapel Hill. Larry Brown, a Heel, revitalized KU's program which was dead in the early 80s and brought KU a title. Roy Williams, a Heel, kept Brown's success going in Lawrence. Then Roy, a proven coach as a Jayhawk, returned home to revitalize the floundering UNC program.

Do you realize that, when Lloyd Carr leaves Michigan, Les Miles will be in an almost identical situation that Roy was in back at this time. Roy went to North Carolina, coached there, and Dean Smith was his idol. Les Miles went to Michigan, coached there, and Bo Schembechler was his idol. Roy Williams became a head coach at Kansas and his team was a contender regularly. Les is now at LSU and his teams have done great, too.

As a KU fan, I disagree. Self was a step down from Roy, but Bill has grown as a coach. "Teams like Maryland", well Maryland usually has a pretty damn good team themselves, so losing to them shouldnt be considered a bad thing. Roy is a great coach and many of us know that or we wouldnt still be bitter about him leaving 5 years later. I am jealous of UNC, they got a very good man as HC, but we have Bill now and he gets to show us what he can do against UNC. Roy beat Self in 2003.
