@akredfox66 Have you ever shot an AK or AKM? They're not too bad, the recoil is very managable on most modern AK's with muzzle breaks. I wouldn't say they're the best rifles ever tho. They are impressive considering their simplicity.

The AK47 truly is an amazing gun. Ive used it on an extreme tourism trip once in israel. It was a great gun, i believe there are videos of us using them on the trip on youtube, look up the company lionops
I teach self-defense and counter-terrorism on the personal level, the AK is my number one choice to keep the boogeyman away. Elderly women love the AK, I have never found one that couldn’t use it. I suggest everyone has at least one AK with 4 magazines and a stored case of ammunition for each AK.
If I have AKM I will never abuse it like these fools do; intentionally bending its barrel, leaving it uncleaned for days, weeks, months or not at all, having it ran over by humvee or the likes! Even with AKM's well known reliability everything has its breaking point! Take care of your weapon and your weapon takes care of you, take care of it the way you take care of your laptop! @RiceNinja212 depends what kind of combat situation you are in. if its urban house to house street fighting the aug doesnt stand a chance, if its a skirmish in an open field then the aug would probably win, but ive never shot an aug so i dont know 100%. but the ak is the best urban combat rifle.
With proper training and skills, an M14 could still be effective at close range, but, yes it probably would be wise to switch to a weapon less than 44 inches long... Depends on how close, inside a tight building? Yeah, I'd switch weapons if I could. On a street, I would probably still keep an M14 out, as long as I have training and I'm used to maneuvering , firing, etc. with the rifle.

If the AK was a bad rifle then it would not be the best seller worldwide. If you have the original russian made AK with russian steel and not some romanian varient, then the accuracy is as good as any m16. When it comes to reliability any US soldier who has served in vietnam, iraq or afganistan will tell you they wished to have had this rifle. Many of them did use the AK.

I think you're not correct. Soviets took enemy weapon to make a better one, all the countries do that, so stg44 was taken as an example to build a better gun, what russians did. The same as many think makarov is a copy of walther- they are different, but mak' is based on walther. Copy never can be better than original.
So when you look some chinese or romanian or whatever copies, that's the copy which copies even the screw by screw, nothing new and crap quality.
When I was in China, I've heard from a few blokes there, that "made in China" for internal market is better quality than for the export. I don't know how it's true or not, but few things I brought from there, they were really good, but what we buying here in Europe I think mostly crap quality, but now nearly every thing manufactured in China. So probably it's coming from the past, but lets say I would prefer "made in Japan" rather than "made in China". But world has changed now.

@oneil641 i have a mentor, he teaches me how to shoot. All firearms has recoil remember that, there is one thing to prevent high recoil when you're shooting a firearm. You should have the right posture to shoot it, of course if you're shooting an AN-94 or other assault rifles on wrong posture it may affect your balance.
Its not only in the firearm to rely on about the recoil, you can reduce it in simple ways. If you're shooting guns you should know about this....

the ak-47 won in vietnom because most fire fights were at close range. in afghanistan the m16 is much more affective then the ak47 because the m16 is much more acurate at farther ranges. its not every day that one of are soldiers get killed by an ak-47. they usually get killed by IED's. the point is in close combat environments like the jungle the ak47 is going to be more affective, but in an environment were it is mostly flat like a desert the m16 will be more affective.

@USAmilitarypower it depends on what kind of AK you have. If you go by one on the streets on Somalia they yeah it's probably gonna be crap. My Arsenal SGL21 AK47 is accurate at 300, meters. It's technically a Saiga rifle by an AK47 none the less.

I think you're not correct. Soviets took enemy weapon to make a better one, all the countries do that, so stg44 was taken as an example to build a better gun, what russians did. The same as many think makarov is a copy of walther- they are different, but mak' is based on walther. Copy never can be better than original.
So when you look some chinese or romanian or whatever copies, that's the copy which copies even the screw by screw, nothing new and crap quality.

When I was in China, I've heard from a few blokes there, that "made in China" for internal market is better quality than for the export. I don't know how it's true or not, but few things I brought from there, they were really good, but what we buying here in Europe I think mostly crap quality, but now nearly every thing manufactured in China. So probably it's coming from the past, but lets say I would prefer "made in Japan" rather than "made in China". But world has changed now.

The Ak-47 might have been the best assault rifle but is certainly outmatched now by the newer ones. Assault rifles such has the SCARMk17, XM8 project, and the HK-416 have just as much if not more reliability, firepower, and a not to mention a fuckton more accuracy than this soviet POS

@oneil641 i have a mentor, he teaches me how to shoot. All firearms has recoil remember that, there is one thing to prevent high recoil when you're shooting a firearm. You should have the right posture to shoot it, of course if you're shooting an AN-94 or other assault rifles on wrong posture it may affect your balance.
Its not only in the firearm to rely on about the recoil, you can reduce it in simple ways. If you're shooting guns you should know about this....

We all have our favs. IMHO comparing the AR and the AK is, as one writer said, like comparing an ice pick to a tomahawk. You can kill with either, but the hatchet requires a lot less skill and is more difficult to break. While I'm not surprised at the lack of gun knowledge displayed herein, I am bemused by the willingness of some to make a spectacle of their ignorance. Perhaps those of you who don't know anything about a topic should defer to those of us who do. Just sayin'.

@MilitariaBuff Not always, Even though they are rarer than the metal, there are bakelite ak47 mags around. Easy way to tell is in the curve of the mag. The 47 has more of a curve in the magazine than the ak74.

the ak-47 won in vietnom because most fire fights were at close range. in afghanistan the m16 is much more affective then the ak47 because the m16 is much more acurate at farther ranges. its not every day that one of are soldiers get killed by an ak-47. they usually get killed by IED's. the point is in close combat environments like the jungle the ak47 is going to be more affective, but in an environment were it is mostly flat like a desert the m16 will be more affective.
