I believe love is the aftermath of attraction. There are different forms of love. You can be IN LOVE, meaning it's not reciprocated, you can truely love someone, meaning both parties feel that way, and CARE for each other. (Even if you're in love with someone doesn't mean you will give them your liver, for example, or take a bullet for them.)

I think this happens because the feeling of attachment and connectiong grows immensely. I think it's even possible to be less attracted to someone (physically, or mentally, or both) as you stay managamous to one person, but you can still deeply love them. Overtime you get used to each other, and lose that feeling of anxiety and excitement but you still feel attached and care for them greatly and need them in your life.
