11:55 refers to the doomsday clock which was set up in 1947 by a group of scientists. it's still used today. the idea of 11:55 in the video is that we're 5 mins to midnight, at which point the world work be overtaken by Apocalypse. the msg in the video is a warning to the way we treat the earth and that our actions are what will lead us to 12 am. currently we're at 6 mins to Midnight as of Jan 14th 2010. the farthest we've ever been was 14 mins and the closest; 2 mins in 1953. =)

Actually. It is in reference to the "doomsday clock" Which is a theoretical timer to catastrophic destruction (mostly based on nuclear war). The extinction of mankind is at midnight, If you look, the clock in the start reads "11:55".. by the end of the song, we would be less than 1 minute to midnight. This coincides with the album name "Minutes to midnight".
