They are Christians. Their lyrics are about faith, but they make it more mainstream so they can reach a larger audience. If you have a worship band, a majority of the listeners are going to be Christian. If you approach a more mainstream sound, you will attract more listeners and can reach out to more people. And that's what Switchfoot is about...

They never call themselves a Christian band. & the more I sing along, the more I realize why they've never needed to. They're singing the human experience from a Christian's perspective. Hence the Christian themes!

They're not denying their faith. They're just singing the song of their souls. It's silly to fight over if they're a Christian band or not. Yes, they're Christians. But they're not just for Christians. Their songs can make anyone think.
