If you look at history you will learn that alliances are fragile, they are often only temporary pauses to consolidate, rearrange, position oneself and then break it (often in a camouflaged way; e.g. the use of "secondaries") when one thinks one has the upper hand.

For those of you saying he's a joke because he said the recession was over... the recession technically ended 6 months before this interview took place. The recession ended in June of 2009 according to the National Bureau of Economic Research.

The Iraq war was simply a war to secure resources. Iraq intended to start selling its oil, the second largest reserve in the world, in Euro instead of the traditional Dollar, endangering US debt economy based on the Dollar as a world reserve currency. That was a year before the war.

Infact, in theory, Russia will become an enemy of Iran (maybe not directly), due to Iranian ambitions in the Caucasus and Central Asia. This is the time where I suspect Iran and US to strike a deal against Russia.

I think the U.S. would have an easier time with the idea of an alliance with Iran than the converse. I don't think Iran would ever accept an alliance with the U.S. on any terms unless there was an absolute, existential threat and no other option whatsoever. I don't see Russia posing that level of threat to Iran.
