I'm pretty sure the name wasn't really changed. from what i have seen and heard, the japanese have trouble with the "r" sound, so the name starfy is more of a correction of 'stafy' kinda like SotC, his name is wanda and is corrected to wander in english.

i'm not an expert on japanese but that what it seems like.

it's a cool game too, with cute a story :)

Good marketing technique on Nintendo's part. Not showing Starfy's face, not explaining anything about the game, and not showing gameplay. It got people, including me, interested. I ended up buying the game a couple of days ago, and what a great game it is!

i found about starfy when i was about 6 years old when i saw the starfy commercials in my doraemon video tapes. I ignored it once, but when i saw them again, i got a little interested, because he looks cute, and has a similar Kirby look, When I found out that he's coming to US, i was surprised!!!!! PS: I only have Starfy 4 game. I couldnt understand the japanese kanjiis.

I know I'm probably going to get flamed for considering Starfy actually a more accurate name in the West than Stafy.

Wait, let me explain! The Japanese write names the way they are said. Since they have problems with the letter R (which would result in them calling him Stalfy) they wrote it the next best way, that is Stafy (as in Stah-fy).

This way of writing stuff means that the translators often have to think what they meant with the original name, sometimes resulting in translation errors.

I believe this will not be the only commercial for The Legendary Starfy. It's just giving gamers a heads up, so they can look it up and preorder it. When the game gets released, it will most likely get another commercial or more than one with game play footage. It's sort of like some Super Bowl commercials giving hints on something very interesting coming up.

That's just the Japanese pronounciation of the name. Starfy makes a bit more sense, since he IS a Star.

The production value is quite good, but the commercial itself doesn't really... I guess introduce Stafy to us.

Then again, this type of advertising could elicit interest from curious customers, seeing how this commercial is basically a teaser.

I dunno. In any case, I hope they make another ad which shows gameplay. Introduce Stafy to America.
