Can someone please answer this question. If I set my 7D to shoot picture in just raw mode, So is that means when I shoot movies it will be in raw or mpeg?? (mpeg is for movies and jpeg is for picture isn't it??)
@ClankyRochet The 7D shoots still pictures in RAW or JPG while it records videos in h.264 encoded MOV files. So, it does _not_ do MPEG video. QuickTime Player will playback the .MOV files.
Manual focus with dSLR is the way to go. Need good eyes though. Also need tripod or some other kind of stable platform to use the zoom smoothly. Any experience with those eye cup magnifiers that sticks onto the back of the cameras over the LCD?
Tell me about it. There's suddenly a much smaller gap between consumer and high-end video, and I'm amazed these DLSRs aren't being used professionally more often...
BEFORE purchasing this camera, or dreaming about this camera, please do yourself a favor and google darwin wiggett 7d. Read the detailed review and the comments.
Sadly, this potentially great camera was ruined by the marketing muppeteers at Canon who elected to cram too many megapixels on the small APS-C sensor, thus compromising the purity of the sensel signal.
If the 7D would have launched as a 10mp camera, the 7D would have been incredible. So close, yet so far.
It was one of the new kit lenses. I've forgotten which....135mm?
As for Auto-Focus, it does _not_ have follow focus, that is, if your subject moves it will re-focus. It will focus only upon pressing the focus button or you manually focus. This isn't really 'consumer' friendly video recorder like the digital camcorders.
Thanks for the reply and advice! Looking to buy the 7D and want to check out it's video recording features. Guess it ain't a camcorder but works well for short clips
can this record sound well?

is there a possibility of having a auto focus lens? orrr can u only use manual on DSLRs
szpopho 1 year ago
Manare71 , he focused manually... And the 7D takes incredible when combined with good lenses, not the POS it comes with.

Autofocus is much too slow, and light flickers too much when zooming in and out. Video is a good feature, but it's just that: an EOS 7D feature.
Can't even compete with a semi-pro such as the Canon HFS-10.
