@Rainbowsixoperator1 It does. I think it might also be that they probably won't play again, so its sort of the last time any of us will hear them play it live
@MysterioFan02 it's agreat argument , both have solos , some of the more "obscur e" one 's like the crescendo at the end of 'careful with that axe' or Page s Ten yrs gone solo . Jjust make your hair stand up like no other.especially live in person
He hasn't played the "studio" version for 39 years. He has never played it the same ever, not once. He improvises and changes it live, which is what sets him apart from other guitarists that stick to the records exactly. So for those who keep complaining that it's not like the original, all i can say is that you have clearly never listened to Led Zeppelin live.
As a guitarist I can appreciate some improve. But the vast majority of ticket buyers want to hear the song on the record. The sad truth has always been that Paige can't play them His live playing has always been atrocious.
Hell yeah he's come up with some great riffs. But that was in a studio... Anyone can sound good in a studio.
Say what you want about Eddie but even his biggest detractors have to admit that Van Halen has always been a killer live band... Zeppelin, not so much.
@mumraaaaa Yes, Angus Young, along with all of AC/DC, is/are a gift from God!
The older I get the more I realize how bad-ass AC/DC really is. Their music never gets old and Angus can actually play his own tunes live... Go figure!
@MsFunny82 If you seriously think that then you clearly know nothing about the guitar, or music. Listen to the shit he pipes out in this clip, its amateur. Young is a technical genius, plays with more soul, skill, feeling, and often speed than page could ever even drream of. Led Zeppelin were all about image.
@mumraaaaa ehm, sorry but i have a diploma in guitar at the conservatory ... but this does not mean anything...Young is a great guitarist but he didn't write dozen of masterpieces as Page did, he is a rock legend...led zeppelin is pure talent and passion for me..
@mumraaaaa And don't forget Angus is a big fan of Page, and also wrote songs based on Led Zeppelin's stuff. Ah, to be stupid and think Angus will ever come close to Page as a musician..
I ran into Jimmy Page at an airport in Ft Walton Fl, and he was really rude..I know people have a bad day, but I was with my 12yr old son and it was embarrasing...
@wycroftholmes Judging from the comments you've left on other videos you deserved it... The real sad thing about your encounter is that you have a son. I hope the asshole gene skips a generation.
Why are you arguing about which guitar player is better? Once you're good, you're good. From there it's all about expressing yourself as a person with your guitar. You like certain players more than others because their style suits your personality more.
page's playing here STINKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Listen to how amateurish it sounds, like he just doesn't care, or can't play the solo like it should be played.
yeah eddie may have been faster and cleaner. But vh has what 4 good albums to his name?Last good album was fair warning. so after 7-8 yrs DLR left and the rest of vh music has sucked. all led zeppelin is good.Ive yet to see a good live vh video where eddie wasnt all fucked up. im sure their out there but i havent found one
hey, fuck you hayastan, van halens good, but theres no need to be ragging on Led Zepplin, Van Halen has a good guitar plyer, but thats bout it, theyve got sum good songs, but not nearly as many as Zepplin, zepplin is legand, best band ever, they were so far ahead of there time, i like halen too, but dont u ever say "i dont get people like this"
The thing is that Van Halen isn't trying to play emotional music. He plays hard rock, not 70's heavy metal. They're entirely different. I agree. Page plays much better heavy metal than EVH does.
But EVH knows how to manipulate the guitar, play faster and cleaner than Page any day.
So it really depends on what you're looking for in music.
I wish Plant wouldn't jump around so much, just to show he still can. I'm his age and he'll gimme a heart attack just watchin' him...Looks like on that solo Page is keepin' it short and sweet. "Less is more" or he can't make as many mistakes to be critiqued thatta way. He still is a hottie tho even w/snow on the roof...
The great old magician and musician, Jimmy Page, was excellent here; with his white hair he even looks cooler than when he was younger. The playing is excellent and for Zep live it is tops. Most people at this age are not able to do the magic seen here. They all sound smart and healthy in every way. Long live LZ.
oh i don't really know what to say, I mean Led Zeppelin is just awesome and they plant and page are the best but I've seen better performances than that one, this wasn't really good (if you compare with other).
yea...what do u expect when the guy probably needed someone to help him change into his outfit. im a zeppelin fan, but like...age does kick in after a while. no matter how god u are.
jimmy page is a true asshole in person i have heard accounts of him cussing out fans asking for autographs or simply a handshake....robert plant is probably the most friendly out of the whole group
pretty good, but i wished page would play a longer solo, but hes like 60 years old and with a 20 pound guitar resting on his shoulder isn't the easiest thing for him now.
and this version is the original notes, but in all the live versions I saw it was always highered by one note (Song remains the same, ARMS concert, etc), Jimmy tuned it higher by one fret, always, but he stopped doing that when he got older...
i think this was probably better than his Zepelin solos on this song. Sorry, but most of the solos on Stairway during Zep's time were way too long and meandering. To me, it kinda made the song anticlimactic, and in retrospect they woudl probably agree. This solo had great tone and was to the point.
Personally I think one of his more famous solos was on the DVD.. The Song Remains the Same, I think it was. Either way, I know it was at Madison Square Garden 1973. But regardless, I do know what you mean, he isn't what he used to be, but he was great longer than a lot of other people were, so I still give him credit, I still think he's amazing
they still played it...and its still their signature song. plant never disowned it it just got harder for him to sing over the years. those high notes are hard man....even for a tenor voice
lol yeah but he wouldnt disown something so godly and epic and "best rock song of all time" ish. people say they plagarised. wat they dont say is that they made it better. theres a reason the other song sucked and this rocked
But do you really think this is a good solo? Seriously. There are mistakes and missed notes through the whole thing, it's not really that fast (though speed doesnt always matter), it's not particularly melodic save for the very beginning and a few seconds in the middle, and the tone is mediocre at best. Really, what does it have going for it? If this was any other guitarist besides Jimmy Page, you would agree it was utter crap. Page is (or apparently, was) capable of far better.
"There are mistakes and missed notes through the whole thing"
Sir you're wrong. u can't say he miss any notes because technically there are no existing notes to miss. During on stage, jimmy improvised most of the notes, while still keep some of the originals. so u can't compare the original things with the on-stage performance.
