It really does not take much imagination to recreate the true quality of this outstanding songstress.I revel in music of this time and this I am in your debt,Edmundusrex.
my unlce Theo Melling Was doing Vaudeville in chiago about this time. Yes it is true no mics He always would tell me you have to sing form down deep in your stomach to make the volume. would love to kno wif there was any of his music anywhere. He also did Detroit with my dad. My dad went on to do minstrel music. He quit in 1964.
This woman had an amazing voice and sang with a lot of emotion. She sang her heart out!!! I only discovered her here on YouTube a few months ago and I am so glad I did! Marion Harris was great!!! No doubt!
things were just getting started then.....new industry, inventions...after 1941 things got easier....hope this helps you young man....90yrs old...i love computers
Marion was also a vaudeville actress and was married to actor Robert Williams who played in "Platinium Blonde" (1931). Their daughter was a singer under the name Marion Harris Jr.
I was 19 when this song came out. Marion Harris was one of my favorite singers during my teen years and into my twenties. I have some of her records.
It must have been delightful to experience this era in music just as it was happening, wasn't it? I'm fourteen now and just discovering these songs ... and I wish there were things like this being produced today! Then again, maybe the element of bygone ephemera adds to the charm. :)
@fiercie23 If you want to hear a recent album with this much classic charm, you should purchase Janelle Monae's The Archandroid. It's heavily influenced by 1920s music.

Tens of thousands of recordings were made without microphones, or indeed any electricity for either recording or playback. In the simplest explanation, a large horn was used as a pickup... like a megaphone operating in reverse.

Marion Harris can be compared to early 20 century version of Connie Francis

Thanks for the bio on this great singer. Bing Crosby praised her diction and cited her as an influence.
