  • iv only got a e-flite blade msr but its presty awsome but im only learning but soon for an upgrade to a blade 400 3d

  • just curious: is that field youre flying in an abandoned airport? looks like a development being built on the old runways.

  • hay dave that good porn music ya got in the background

can't ya just see it now ..............omg,!!!!

  • why dont you guys take the heli up higher for a better view from the cam

  • Where do you get all that cool music you have on your vids?

  • Hi Dave,

I have asked this question on a few forums but nobody has yet replied.. Just bought a blade 400 a week ago and have been flying it carefully.. how free is your autorotation clutch? If you spin the blades by hand with the motor stopped how many times will it rotated before it stops? Mine will only do about 1-2 revolutions from a fairly quick hand spin.. (hope that makes sense) My instinct tells me it should rotate more freely, but I could be wrong... any advice appreciated..

  • You are a pro RC pilot. All-time-the-best.

  • What is flying 3d?

  • hey dave ive flown my honeybee v2 alot and now im getting a honey bee cp3

when you turn the 3d switch on your controller off does handle more like a fixed pitch

  • porn music.

  • i love the porn music you have in the background! it's what i play when i'm doing your mom! awesome!

  • my heli went into a spin when i did a flip i found out my headspeed was to low in idle up i run 100% now in idle up

  • I like the electric only

  • that would be awsome in an airsoft war

  • Hey Dave, nice flying. I just traded my 2 Guanli Mirages for a Art-Tech 400 Typhoon. Have you had a chance to fly the AT-Typhoon? It seems to be made really well. Just thought I would ask.

  • JamesJB32 (

dont worry every one was once a noob

3d means flying with idle-up on

    let me explain

a helicopter in idle up mode or 3d mode means that instead of using power and pitch it uses a nearly constant amount of power and variable pitch meaning that you can flly upside down and do other stunts

  • "roll"....no kidding!.... very dull video...

  • اhow much this ?????

  • kind of boring

  • y dos it look all wavy is it because of the sun?

  • Nice flying! I just got back into heli after a 5+ year break and found that an electric could be had cheap (relatively speaking). I'm loving it! I have gone from large nitro to electric and haven't looked back!

  • Yeah, this is what I bought a rc heli and dv cam for! I hope I don't kill them both on first flight! (ordered but haven't received yet).

  • Hi,ive been hearing the term 3D since ive been reading about this hobby. What exactly does it mean?

Does it mean when its in 3D mode on it acts like a real helicopter?

    Sorry im a newb :(

    KB3SKU

    73 :)

  • it is a term for doing aerobatics like flips, rolls, and upside down

  • What causes the video to 'roll'?

  • @ultragroove1 Thats when he "rolls" the helicopter LOL

  • LOL, with that heli cam and music you could be spying on the next door neighbours gettin it on by the pool ! LOL.

  • you are the man!!!!!!well done bro

  • Nice video and perfect flying. I have a quick and simple question. I am new at the heli flying and I recently bought a 1/5 scale hirobo heli. Are those massive helicopters good for beginners and are they some what top of the line?

  • Yeoza, that's a big helicopter for a beginner. Yes big helicopters are more stable but way more dangerous in the hands of a beginner. Please be careful.

  • I'm starting to helis and have a skya-450 he is a nice GA 410, engine turnigy x500-4000e and a 2200 lipo dx6i too.

but I have difficulty confirar the radio for the heli.

what would be a good setup for me to start flying my heli because I believe it is in aircraft and helis you want to start

  • did you have the gyro off when you were flying?

  • cool heli!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Hey Dave, what do you think would be a better heli..........the Blue Ray you have, or this Blade 400?

  • Blue rays are beautifully machined and I like it best, but the radio that came with the 400 is great.

  • Excellent flying. I alo have the Blade 400. Right now, I am learning to hover. Someday I will be able to fly 3D.

  • Thanks kindly. Just take your time and dont give up. 3d also is crashes. Make sure to watch my Crash of my Blue Ray coming soon, doing 3d.

  • Hello, where could i buy the dynamic stabilizers, and do i have to customize a mount for the stabilizers? Mr.Dave i am your student, flying the Blade with NO gyro is extremely difficult, but years of experience made you a pro LoL. you can watch my video (Blade 400 scorpion motor HK2221-6) i believe that this is my 6th 3D flight, tell me what do you think?

  • Well these Stabilizers (in my DS video) were sent to me, but you could easily make with dowel rods, a Bearing (we used old swashplates) and folded over plastic milk carton to make them. You could do that or visit xraptor10, here on YT and he might make some for you. Ill check out your vids and thanks for your kind comments. They work for me.

  • Hey man I have a question. I noticed earlier in the vid you were flying with the 3D switch off, and later switched it on. Is there alot of difference with the switch on compared to off?

  • Yes, when the 3d switch is on, it locks the motor to wide open, and then centers zero pitch, so I can reverse pitch on both sides for 3d flying. It will suck itself to earth fast, if you try to land that way and forget and pull the throttle down. In the 3d mode, the other difference is that it uses your batteries up way faster. It is also like driving your car at 120 all the time. You've got to be on top of it! Thanks.

  • I just started performing Autorotation, I have tried to auto land 6 times from 20ft; 2 of the 6 landings heli tipped to one side and blades made contact with the soft soil, damage was minimal a bent spindle/feathering shaft. I stopped using wooden blades when my crashing diminished; CF blades are more rigid & not as heavy.

  • Yep, that is why I never practice Auto rotates on electic helis. 1 in 10 times, I land too hard and have a blade strike. I dont jump out of good airplanes either. LOL.

See my latest video on the Blade and dynamic stabilizers. It is uploading now and should be up in a couple of hours.

  • My Blade 400 is far from stoke; she has an aluminum CNC and a tail that shines blue and silver colors. The tail boom is CF, Stabilizers made by Curtis Youngblood. She is loaded with a 60A ESC that powers a Scorpion Hk2221-6; this motor is so powerful (TIK-TOKS are so easy to make). The only electronic piece of equipment that is E-flite, is the spectrum receiver on the Heli. GY401 & futaba S9650, HiTec HS-5065MG cyclic servos, She transformed to the Blae 400 V2.

  • Actually, I have been flying this Heli for a while, crashed countless times just to learn how to hover. After flying the Blade for 3 months, I was able to hold on to a nose-IN hover! I am eager to achieve aerobatic 3D flight, so I invested some money on(Phoenix)a simulator. Totally worth it, now after 7 months, I can maintain a nose-In-inverted hover in addition to knowing how to avoid crashing... normally.

  • Thanks to my brother Hadi who introduced me to the RC Helicopter World when he played One of Dave Herberts Videos on Youtube, so special thanks to Dave, Hadi, and to all Youtube clients. My first Helicopter to own is the Blade 400, it took me less than Ten days to call Donovans Hobby and purchase my first helicopter. Dave the question is as follows, would like to know how to mount a (Sony Camera weight is 151 grams) on to the Blade 400? What is the weight of the Aiptek Pocket Cam X?

  • Congrats, but I hope you are a good heli pilot before strapping on a camera, as this is not a beginners heli at all. My Aiptek is 4 ounces, and it does fine with it. Yours is almost 6 oz, so it should work.

  • Hey nightflyer, just a question, do you recommend this heli for an intermediate pilot? like i've flown an e-flight MCX and CX2 crashed them couple times CX2 is kinda shaky but i want more bigger heli and would this be as stable as i would expect? can you easily take it off the ground and land it safely? thanks! =D

  • Nope. This is a hotrod. See my 9 heli tips, but if you want to jump into tail rotored ccpm helis, I would start with a Honeybee fixed Pitch or CP2, I say, learn on a VW, and if you never crash, then get the Porsche.

    Good luck.

  • How do you do a loop not in idle up? Don't you need the negative pitch and the throttle to stay high?

  • You can do a loop just like a plane given enough room without using reverse pitch in the normal flight mode.

It looks nicer in the 3d mode, however.

Idle up is a different switch used for Autorotate practice.

  • Great Video!! Great Flying!!

  • Thanks very kindly, Sir.

  • Ahh i am glad to read that this does ok in gusty winds as my HBFP does not lol, and its nearly always windy here. This heli looks more and more attractive to me every video i see of it.

A question i wanted to ask was do you still have the occasional scary moment where you think you are going to crash it or actually crash it? (not including the battery incident) even after all your years of experience? If so how often?

At the minute every flight is a drama for me lol.

    Keep on flying Lee :D

  • love the music george clinton,or arnette howard?

  • Thanks. George Clinton. Lol.

  • hey this has been posted on my birthday and a nice vid i love the blade 400

  • Thanks. Happy belated birthday.

  • ty :P

  • All jokeing aside I do find this to be very col. Sorry about the little music thing!! I just couldn't resist. And thak you for the fine gesture you left me! Have a great one!

P.S. What go's up must come down,,but hopefully on it's skids..

  • LOL Thanks.

  • That is really cool stuff.. The wavy screen and the 80'porn music is great.

  • Thanks kindly.

  • I know now that you do not like to rely on all those fancy electronics Dave ie piezo gyros, but come on, its commonplace now. I know , you're old school.

By the sound of that on-board Aiptek , your blade tracking is slightly off !!

Keep 'em comin dave I love every one.

  • Haha. Thanks. I do use Piezos now, (It came with it) but I don't turn them up very high.

  • I don't know. Check out aiptek(.)com and check out digital cameras. The Pocket Cam x comes up first.

  • does the shop aiptek sell things over seas

  • hi were did u buy your mini video cam from.

  • Aiptek Shop. It's from their home page. It is an Aiptek PocketCam X.

  • is that a remote camera?

  • Nope, I just turn it on and let it go. They only cost $20, when I bought mine.

  • Very cool!!

  • Thanks kindly.

  • for those of you who dont know autorotation is when a helicopter flies without an engine

  • kool thanks heaps

ill let u know how it goes thanks

  • but do u think that the 400 would be to advanced for me have alook at the cp pro on youtube and tell me what u think

  • Yes, I have flown them and they are fine. If you feel intimidated, as most do with the 400, better stick with the cp pro then and save some money. Good luck and fly easy.

  • Hey Dav, i got a blade cx2 a year ago and ive been flying it and i want something more advanced. do u think i should get a blade 400 or blade cp pro, and if u think a cp pro would be best hav u heard much about them or would u recomend another 6 ch heli. Thanks

  • I like the 400 best (which is a 6 Ch heli), but you will find a big difference in sensitivity, but still a better machine to me.

  • i have a cx2 as well. i hear a lot of bad about the blade cp. probably the biggest 'dog' out of e-flites' heli line. go for the 400 and go on ebay for much less than retail.

  • hey ubt what about the cp pro 2?? have u heard much bout them cuz they the 2.4Ghz that was the 1 was gunna get but let me know what u think?

  • Was just looking at Blade 400s on ebay. Out of my price range for the moment. But having looked, one person is selling because it's too advanced. What makes the Blade more difficult/advanced to fly than any other 6ch heli?

  • Beware of used helis. Most people give up after crashing and finding out that helis are too much for their capability. They slap parts in, but have no idea if they are right. This helis was designed for advanced 3 dimensional aerobatic flying, so not good for beginners. Like a VW compared to a Porsche. Learn on the VW first. Then move up to the Porsche or Kinda like a Pitts special and a 747. I have a new video coming out soon on How hellis work and tips. Hopefully it will help you too.

  • Oh I wasn't going to buy the second hand blade. Just looked to see how much new ones were and was curious about this guy's reason for selling a second hand one. I'm actually planning an HBK2 purchase in the near future. Inexpensive, high availability of spare parts. I'm confident in my abilities and not easily discouraged if I do crash. Everyone does sooner or later. I'll leave the Idle Up switch well alone until I feel I'm ready. Of course I'll watch your new vid though, I'm a subscriber.

  • Good. Good luck to you with your new HB King 2 too.

  • new ones usually can be had on ebay for around 370 total. sometimes they can be had near 350 but not often. there's also 'parts' ones, that hobb-e-mart sells on ebay...something is wrong with them, and they take many close up pictures of each one they sell, but you can get those for really cheap and replace the part and still have a deal.

  • hi dave,

excellent as usual, im very new to helis and im still at the learning to hover stage, i got your tips a while ago and they have helped a lot, but i just cannot get to grips with nose in hovering even on the sim, have you any advice which might help please ?

    Thanks.

  • To start, I try to get my students to look over their shoulder, especially if you get lost. Keep the antenna on the TX pointing in the same direction as the helicopter is pointing. That way left is always left and right is always right. It takes years of practice for most people to get it, because back and forward is also reversed. Keep practicing and dont give up.

  • cheers for that,

its the reversal of forward and back that gets me, i can cope with left and right reversal (just) but the forward and back has me like a tissue in the wind for a few seconds till i eventually land or ditch it.

i just dont know the best part of the heli to take visual reference from.

ah well, as you say practice and practice and then practice some more lol.

  • Thanks. I know it is hard. The best thing is to always look at the nose of the heli and pretend your in it. The TX controls are part of the heli, so keep the transmitter pointed the same way the heli is pointed, (even if you have to look over your shoulder) til you get it. All controls are right, if the tx is pointed the same way the heli if flying. Good luck.

  • U should put a camera on the Storm Launcher

  • I did and have a video on it up. It was marginal.

  • jeez you are FAMOUS in the heli world

  • Thanks. I don't know about famous, but lots of great people know me.

  • Very good as usual. I have been watching you fly and it is amazing. You just like myself enjoy this hobby. Keep the info coming for us new people, or who just started this year...Thanks

  • Thanks very kindly. I appreciate that. Got another coming soon.

  • Hey- thanks for all your blade 400 tips. I just got one and havent flown it yet. Mounting the training gear! Say, How does "Jeff" like that Mentor model?

  • Thanks and good luck. Did you get my "9 heli tips" yet? Jeff loves that plane and has lots of vids up on it flying.

  • Hi Dave,

I watched a couple of your fantastic helpfull videos and learned already a lot. Can You send me your 9 Heli tips and the parts list for the Heli training stand. Thanks and keep up the fabulous work. Cheers Mike

  • hello dave im about to order a 2007 Newest version ESky 6-Channel CCPM HoneyBee CP2 Radio Control R/C Helicopter RTF with traning and landing gear for only 170 dollars . is it to much helo for a guy tht only flys havocs.

  • Any Collective Pitch (CP) helicopter is quite a handful. Make sure to fly a simulator first.

Then memorize my 9 helicopter tips!

It also helps to have some coordination too, because you have to move both sticks in all directions all the time. There is never a dead moment.

But on the other hand, once you got it, you will love it.

Remember 96% of the people who try to fly helicopters, give up after a few crashes.

    Good Luck,

    Dave

  • do u think someone brand new to rc helis can fly a fixed pitch version of the honeybee 3 with the help of the simulator?

  • Lot's can and way many more cannot fly anything. So I would say yes. You don't need 3d capability to learn to hover reliably and get back to land.

  • Is that wave effect induced by the vibration? That's kinda interesting.

I was out of town for the last week and found that my firebird phantom arrived upon coming back home. I ended up purchasing it from your buddy at hobbytown. Great guy. I'll try and video myself flying when the weather dies down a little (it's been raining here a lot) and do a video reply.

  • Sometimes if I have the rubber band too tight, The camera does that. Ha ha. I dunno why, actually. I am working on another hopefully better. Glad you got the Phantom. I hope you have good luck as I am with mine. It has turned out to be one of my favorites to go out and fly with no hassle. Are you already an rc flyer? It is easier to have someone hand launch it for you, if not taking off with the wheels, cause the throttle is spring loaded. Good luck and I will look forward to your video.

  • I went to the Aiptek site, which camera are you using?

  • Aiptek Pocket Cam X.

  • That was a fun video Dave. Question: Are there many aerobatics that today's rc helis CAN'T do? You know, like a tail slide, or 4-point roll?

  • Thanks. The 3d helis can do it all, but Gas ones do it better than electrics, due to heavyweight and momentum.

  • What is an Auto-Rotation?

  • Auto rotation is when the Motor shuts down, and you coast or glide back to Earth, by manipulating the pitch on the main blades.... Like the helicopter seeds that fall from trees. Just before hitting the ground, you give it positive pitch and make a smooth landing, or just take off again and fly around, if you can turn your motor back on.

  • Great video - I noticed that you're a "thumbs" flyer. Given your years of experience and skill, I'd like to hear your thoughts on "thumbs" vs "pinch". I'm still learning and playing with both. I'm also still practicing tail-in hovers with my 400.

    Thanks again.

    Jim

  • Thanks, but you didn't look close enough. I fly thumb on right stick and pinch on left. My other videos also say that quite a few times. Rarely will a person get good with helicopters with just thumb on left stick. I was taught to fly by the national helicopter champion, and he taught me that right away. You need total control and tiny movements with your left stick. You can't do it with the thumb. My

"9 heli tips for success" also states that. Thanks again for your comments and good luck.

  • Wow -- you're right. I didn't notice your left hand. Sorry I didn't pick up in other videos. You are so prolific that I haven't been able to get through but a few. Thanks for pointing me towards your "9 heli tips...". I'm heading that way now.

    Thanks again.

  • Absolutely fantastic flight Dave, how much flight time can you get out of a full tank of gas? Can you fix up the cam on a really clear day an go as high as poss, be nice to see the view of your town from 200+ feet high.

    Thanks...

  • Thanks kindly. I am still patiently waiting for sun.

  • PS. My tank of gas is not. This is an electric heli. 6 1/2 minutes is the most I can get.

  • Very Nice! I recently tried 3D with my Blade 400. That was when the fun really kicked in ... :-). Oh btw, I'm Finally done with my T-rex 600. I got a vid up :)

  • Thanks. Ill check it out.

  • im using everything toward traning and soaking it all up like a sponge.

  • awsome vid! 5 stars!

  • Thanks very kindly.

  • what would happen if u put ur phone on it instead a camera?would it work with belt cp?

    vid=5*

  • My phone? My phone takes only 15 second videos. My phone is also heavier than my camera. The belt cp would work too. Thanks for the rating.

  • well, yes,it depends on the type of phone u have!

but if i put my phone on the landing skid(tape it there)would it make belt cp very unstable?

i dont wanna spend xtra money on camera.

    PLZ REPLY!

  • Yes it will easily fly a phone. I only paid $19.95 for my camera and $179 for my phone so I wouldnt chance my phone. If you know how to fly, and feel confident with it, go for it. We want to see your video.

  • Great video! It would be a bad idea to put a digital camera on that! =S

  • Thanks.. That is a digital camera I used, so why would it be bad?

  • thanks for the ride

  • Ha ha. Your welcome.

  • That was a really awesome video Dave. Great flying as always. And then there is poor Jeff, waiting his turn, patiently as always lol........

  • Ha ha ha. Thanks kindly.

  • great flying airboss

  • Thanks kindly.

  • awsome vid

  • Thanks kindly.

  • go to freaking rc cars night flyyer they are wicked

  • Been there done that years ago. They are 2d and not (for me) as challenging as helicopters and airplanes.

But if your new to it, as I once was, they are exciting and fun. I spent too much money on them too.

  • Great Video Love the sky cam

  • Ha ha. Thank you sir. Not bad for $20, eh?

  • Awesome flying Dave. What I would like to know is...who's that good looking guy with the T-28 with ya? I'll bet he's a better than par pilot. LOL.

  • Ha ha ha. Jeff your humor is why I like to fly with you. You have definitely got a great handle on flying that T-28. Lets fly tomorrow.

  • sweet!, can't wait to do loops with my Blade 400, got it up about 200 feet the other day, still afraid of doing nose it, no crashes yet!

  • Good for you. You have to learn to walk before you can run, so take your time. I learn something every time I fly, and have been doing it almost 50 years now! No one ever masters it, (as some tell me they do). It is a big learning curve. Thanks for your kind comments. 200 feet high and hard to see with no crashes....good job!

  • hi great video again, have you tried autos on your blade yet,i did on mine, went down like a brick,.I,m a big fan of yours btw, been watching you from uk for ages keep up the good work....

    matt

  • Thanks kindly. I appreciate your comments. When doing the auto, don't bring the throttle stick down too far or you will get reverse pitch and that's not good. Keep nose slightly dipped forward to keep up slight forward momentum and then level out at end.

  • nice video dave

  • Thanks. I appreciate your comment.

  • not a problem
