  • Radio stations and law firms, i think, have non-paid interns. I enjoy your interview but you may have been slightly wrong on this one. I always like to use the arguement that, I can hire 5 people at $7/hour or i can hire 7 people at $5/hour. Which is better? And follow that low skilled jobs should be seeen as stepping stone jobs to gain expirience and prove to another employer, with a higher paying job that you are dependable. Your intern arguement is good and i will use it.

  • This is a weird interview because I actually find myself agreeing with Barney Frank, which is probably a first for me. I actually agreed with his statements about letting him speak - I genuinely don't think this was him evading like the other politicians. I also think his argument was sound - if people do want to volunteer their time without pay, they should be able to do that.

If the point was to show how minimum wage laws are wrong, there were better ways to go about it unfortunately.

  • @egervari He lied about the conditions of his interns.

  • we need term limits!

  • Frank picks out eye-booger, bites nails, and picks nose in the first minute. Gross.

  • Employees are at their work voluntarily as well. They can choose not to work at whatever business they're employed at. It's a clear double standard with Frank.

  • Although Helfeld rehashes interesting points about the nature of our political system (especially that government is forceful by nature), he is unable to credibly suggest that it should not exist. His weak ideological position coupled with his arrogant interviewing style is what draws him into conflict with those he interviews.

  • @chowmein911 He's not suggesting that government should not exist. He's arguing that it's role should be far more limited than it is, and that those who participate in it, should have far greater knowledge and understanding of both it's abilities and it's limitations.

  • @cindyblows

Also, I'd add that Messr. Frank does exactly the same thing to other people who are being "badgered" in a fashion that is no less cordial. Sorry, but not only does he contradict himself, but he is a hypocrite.

  • Does the gentleman conducting this interview deserve to be paid a minimum wage for this unpleasant, disorganized, pointless exchange?

  • I think his interviews are funny. It's kind of like watching bull riding. See how long the interviewee stays until he gets up and leaves in disgust. lol Jan has been called many nasty names. lol It's brilliant comedy!

  • @cincyblows Frank contradicted himself and is therefore, mistaken.

  • @cincyblows Then how does he manage to sit through his own committee hearings?

  • @UsualMike lol I was thinking the same thing right after I posted my last comment.

  • His body language says it all.

    He's lying thru his teeth.

  • Barney Bunghole Frank, his asshole looks like a mirror image of Jim Ready's asshole. What a fucking scumbag this nasty asshole is.

  • A good question would be.

Q: Does a Congressional intern benefit by working without pay?

    A: Yes.

Q: Does a McDonalds employee benefit by working for $4.00 hr (less than minimum wage)?

    A: Yes.

If both are voluntary, and both benefit, why is it illegal for one group and not the other

  • @hsfbunny

Because getting rid of the minimum wage protection would lead to the exploitation of the poor in society, whereas this would not and is not caused by the lack of such protection for government interns.

  • @hsfbunny

Because getting rid of the minimum wage protection would lead to the exploitation of the poor in society, whereas this would not and is not caused by the lack of such protection for government interns.

  • So, let me get this right...If you don't pay them enough for their work, that's exploitation? But, if you don't pay them at all, that's perfectly fine?

  • @hsfbunny A better question would be: Would McDonalds be able to hire an employee, on a volunteer basis (without pay), and as part of their employment contract, require that the "Volunteer" employee perform specific tasks, and work a set (minimum) number for hours or days per week, as a condition of their "Voluntary" employment?

  • As much as I hate Barney Frank, this gentleman interviewing him is incredibly disrespectful. He constantly interrupts. It's almost impossible to have a conversation with him where he's not trying to jump him and speak over the other person.

  • Bawney Fwank is such a bitch

  • The bottom line is that everyone should be free to take a job, reject a job, provide a job, or work for free, if they so choose. When you delve into this topic and split hairs like Barney tried to do, it just underscores how wrong it is for the government to even be involved in private voluntary economic agreements.

  • Barney Frank is such an idiot. He is good for comic relief though.

  • What is absolutely amazing is that Frank has no problem whatsoever of bold face lying even though he is on tape. He also has an incredibly short fuse. It is clear that he is a self absorbed prick.

  • Interns do not request not to be paid. I don't know any intern with a brain who would not accept minimum wage instead of voluntary service. Barney Frank is a fucking liar.

  • Frankly speaking, Frank is an arrogant little faggot. Worthless piece of manure.

  • @ConservativeInk I think you meant, "Fwankly speaking..." Sorry, not trying to be the grammar police. ;)

  • @ConservativeInk I think you meant, "Fwankly speaking..." Sorry, not trying to be the grammar police. ;)

  • Minimum wage denies people the right to work. You may give a homeless person $5, but if he requests to work an hour for that amount, the government denies him that right.

  • @hughtub That is an excellent point!

  • Frank is a cock suscking socialist, who actually votes for this perverted, unAmerican moron!!

  • So why can some voluntary work for zero pay cause they want experience.........but they cant voluntarily work for less than minimum wage?

Bawney Fwank is a world class asshole.

  • @Zen5012 You are absolutely right about that. Us the American people had depended on Republicans and Democrats for so long we should consider other parties besides the big two. We need people in the White House thats 100% for the people as well as not sugar coating any ideas for reputation. Don't forget that these dumbasses only made a career out of being a politician and nothing else. People only pick Democrat and Republican cause they are the only option and thats sad.

  • @foxboy1618,

"We need people in the White House thats 100% for the people" What does that mean? "the people" are 300 million Americans. Each one has a unique combination of values that changes over time. No politician or group of politicians could possibly know the values & desires of 300 million Americans. That's why a national representative government is a horrible system. Just let people voluntarily exchange property & services with each other. No need for political parties or the state.

  • Comment removed

  • All politicians should be volunteer work, for the good of the community. There are plenty of people willing to volunteer for Congressman or President or Governor or Mayor. Politicians have no interest in the public welfare. Minimum wage should be $25 hour. Some jobs would be lost, but some would be gained, because people would have purchasing money, boosting biz. Anything less is immoral.

  • @geehuckwow Why not 1000$ / hour? You're mandating conditions of other people's voluntary exchange and you have the guts to preach about morality?

  • @rumco There is no voluntary exchange when there is property tax, or income tax, or land that must be purchased to be used for growing, because these are necessities. It's the same as saying look, I've got 5 guys here that want to rape your daughter, so pick one or all. That's not a voluntary exchange because it is forced. The use of natural resources to create poverty - necessity and then call it free enterprise is a scam. If necessities were freely available, then there can be free enterprise.

  • @geehuckwow Voluntary means both parties agree without coercion. Taxes are coercion. You don't own land because you need it, you can only acquire unused land by mixing it with your labour or purchase it from someone else. What you're advocating here is collectivism.

  • @rumco If my friends own land, you can earn $20,000,000/hr, and it will soon be mine, because I can charge you anything for food and rent. It's a scam. It's slavery.

  • @geehuckwow Are you saying private ownership is slavery? If yes, then you're misguided and I have no interest carrying on in this debate.

  • @rumco There was no debate... you never made any sense. The stupidest people are greedy. The greediest people waste their lives acquiring "things". Then, they want to regulate the poor people to enslave them and tax them and take away their homes. Life is for living, not stealing, taxing, extorting, and charging "rent."

  • Barney Frank is such an arrogant prick. Look at his fucking demeanor!!!!

Such a smarmy little queer. I can't wait till his party and his ideology get smashed to pieces come November!

  • wonder if he is sucking dodo out of his fingernails?

  • That answers are fallacious double talk. Here's a coherent answer.

    watch?

    v=ca8Z__o52sk

  • Oh Barney, you were so horrible back then as well. Still picking your nose and eating your nails while mumbling about double standards between government and private sector. Stupid statist.

  • I don't buy the argument that Democrats don't want to pay interns enough because they're trying to save money. These guys are notorious for wasting our tax dollars on uneeded doormen and private jet excursions, not to mention rampant welfare benefits to people who can work.

I do think that minimum wage is an artifice and not needed, however.

  • "Internship" in colleges and other institutions of learning should not be allowed in any shape or form. It is 'legalized theft'.

  • @mre2u2 Care to elaborate on your assertion?

  • Chair of the House Financial Services Committee << another rep. that needs to be thrown out on his arse. Again any legislative member that's been in office longer than 2-3 terms is to long. Yes, do away with min wage and the country will actually be better off.

  • Maybe these guys should intern for awhile. Save the country a few million. Anyone keep a count of the nosepicking and nailbiting moments?

  • People who are doing nothing wrong don't get agitated & abusive when having a simple discussion.

  • But didn't Nancy Pelosi just say that people "volunteering" at a private corp WOULD be prosecuted? Barney & Nancy should get their excuses straight.

  • But the classic Barney quote is in relation to campaign finance and corruption, within the Annenberg/CPB video series "The Constitution: That Delicate Balance", episode #7

    Look for it at 01:07....

  • What an idiot that interviewer is. Why ask someone for an interview if you are not going to let them talk?

  • He is a troll job alright! I am surprised he can still sit on his bung hole it gets so much use. Anybody remember that during the Clinton administration his male lover was turning tricks in the WH? And he still has a "job" deciding what is RIGHT in Washington? We would probably all be better off if we burned the brothel down!

  • barney frank is a gay retard.

  • Barney Frank is an ass - what a rude joke he is, he's a pervert

  • Stark, Pelosi, and Frank all threw poor Jan out of their office for not asking easy, compliant questions. This shows how reporters are intimidated into playing ball with the politicians in order that they will continue to have press access to them. If a reporter is banned from talking with too many pols, he will no longer be a reporter.

  • this is an obnoxious interviewer

he gets kicked out of most interviews

  • @NothingToImprove asking tough questions is often an obnoxious endevour. To not get "kicked out" of an interview session the interviewer needs to be soft and compliant towards the politician/movie star/rock star/sport star/big shot, etc.

  • The epitome of a lying sack of shit politician. What a cry baby cant stand to me asked questions, this is who we let govern us???

Hey Barney hows is Fannie Mae doing?

  • Frank needs to go back to running gay prostitution rings rather than ruining the economic backbone of this country.

  • Minimum wage has made Stossel come up with his silly graph that the poor have been making more money over the years because of our free enterprise. Meanwhile the middle class has been making less.

  • You twiyan to twick me to show I'm a cwook you wasckowie wabbit!

  • Waah! You won't let me drone on and on and change the subject! Waah! GET OUT OF MY OFFICE!

Barney Frank is a joke. Free labor is fine as long as he is the one using it.

  • It's like voluntarily paying your income tax.

  • Typical Barney Frank...getting super angry when he is proved wrong. I've seen him say "please stop interrupting me" to divert the interview many times in other interviews. It's his only defense.

  • minimum wages = price fixing of labor; we al know how well price fixing works right?

  • this interviewer is a complete idiot.

  • LOL , awesome video! This interviewer is so courageous. Gives me a lot of hope.

  • "The minimum wage makes it illegal for certain people to work. The whole fantasy that you can raise wages with just passing a law is utter nonsense. Higher wages comes from higher productivity; there is no shortcut. The gov't can't legislate that. You cannot force a company to hire somebody when they're gonna lose money in the process.

All contained in this very brief video you should give 2 min of your time. Search on youtube Schiff Minimum Wage.

  • @SuaveSavant

Then how is it that although productivity has gone up over the past 30 years, but wages have not kept pace with produtivity. Wages in fact have stayed stagnant and not kept up with top line inflation.

  • Has so much more to do with the big picture than this little aspect of the economy. Real wages and productivity are all adequately handled by the free market. Inflation is a byproduct of fiat money from the gov't. Too often people cite a problem (that was created by the gov't unintentionally),claim it's a byproduct of greed, and then call for more gov't action. History has shown that the societies who listen to that kind of reason has legitimate go into recessions, depressions, or even collapse

  • Congratulations, you have figured out why "free trade" among nations is a race to the bottom.

  • this jew loves that its no legal for two individuals to make a deal with eachother in which both parties benifit. if an unemployed person wants a job for $6 per hour so he can make some money and an employer has a job that he can pay him $6 per hour barney frank wants to step in and tell the unemployed poor person that it is not legal for him to work and he must stay unemployed, and he tells the employer who can only afford to pay $6 per hour that its not legal for him to grow employment.

  • Any small company MUST pay a minimum

wage. The lady here can do whatever she wants. She is a elite-power mongering official. They make the laws, they don't follow them.

    Period.

  • My comment was on the other similar video

    called;

Pelosi's Double Standard on the Minimum Wage.

  • His premise is batshit insane. Min wage laws are so fundamentally important and have nothing to do with volunteering time. People can always donate their time.Without wage laws, here is what happens, wage workers become too desperate and too dependent on the corp./employer, the distribution of wealth curve skews completely to employer/corporation side, then top marginal tax rates need to be increased dramatically to avoid abject poverty of all non employer classes.

    Chicago school is a joke.

  • minimum wage laws are a horrible thing and have hurt the poor especially. ignorant people are so ridiculous that they actually think that minimum wage laws are good for the poor. according to your logic why not make minimum wage 1 million dollars a year? all the poor would be rich right? ass wipes

  • the answer to your question is because that would be stupid. No one has ever suggested such a thing and it's silly to suggest that argument represents my side at all. the minimum wage should be set at a reasonable rate according to the state .

Do you think that the current minimum wage is too low or high in your state? Do you think that the minimum wage increases wages or decreases them in general?

There are plenty of cases of what happens with no wage regulation. It aint pretty.

  • no one can know what wages should be.its not something that a person in an office in washington or me can decide for everyone. minimum wage hurts everyone but especially the poor. trade unions like minimum wage because if they are skilled and justify $20 per hour because they can do the work of 4 unskilled poor workers an employer will hire the skilled worker, but if he could pay the 4 poor people $4 per hour he would and they would learn the skills to then in turn make $20 per hour.

  • I still dont understand why you wouldnt want to make minimum wage $500 per hour? if making it $7 only has good effects than why wouldnt $500 be even better? if raising it from $5 to $7 means that the only effect is that poor people will make an extra $2 per hour without any downside then how come you are against making it $500... wouldnt that just mean that poor people would make an extra $495 per hour? what your saying is that youd rather hurt the poor through ignorance on a small scale only.

  • Raising minimum wage does not have any positive effects for the people it's meant to help. It discriminates against people that aren't worth $8 per hour, for example. Look up

"Milton Friedman minimum wage" and get back to me.

  • lookup "chicago school a joke and complete failure" and get back to whatever fictitous bullshit corporatist shlock you're into. And don't bother telling me what a genius Friedman is because he is the smartest and wrongest economist in a long time. The effects of his misguided policy suggestions are still detrimentally reverberating through the US and Latin America.

  • lolyou must be referring to keynes not friedman, keynes is the one who is still haunting economics today and his misguided and fantasy theories are not consistant with human beings plain and simple.I notice that you have no arguments of logic or sense. all you do is say a fantasty goal (like minimum wage to ensure living standards) and then when you are called on it you attack something totally different.why dont you explain yourself? tell me how making a minimum wage law raises living standards?

  • NO, if you can't understand that a person needs to be able to afford food, shelter, clothing, schooling; paying with the money they earn by doing work, then you just keep believing chicago bullshit and everything will be great for you.

Minimum wage is tied to basic needs, not comfortable living. When a person needs to spend all of their time doing wage work in order to meet minimum requirements for living, it HURTS productivity, innovation, advancement. Don't you understand that simple fact?

  • I understand the concept but refuse to believe it as fact. Why would someone work hard to achieve something they can get for free? People operate based on incentives. THAT's a fact. Welfare? That just leaves people dependent on the state and unable to provide for themselves. Charity is the responsibility of family and community, not the government. If firms operated based on charity, they'd go out of business -it's only a matter of time before the US is bankrupt from that kind of thinking.

  • WOW, your amazingly ignorant. its amazing how you say that a minimum wage law ensures that people can meet minimum living requirements. I mean if all that you had to do to ensure that, was make it a law then we can solve world hunger and poverty, all we have to do is send barney frank to africa to write down a number on a piece of paper and then sign it into law and whala...everyone meets the mimimim living requirements, better yet why stop there, lets make it a law that everyone is rich lol

  • thanks for misrepresenting what i said! It does not "ensure" anything other than making it a bit harder for a firm to grossly underpay their wage workers. Minimum wage laws, as with any law require "x" with penalties for non-compliance, this no more ensures minimum living needs are met than laws against murder extend people's lives. Something that you should understand is that these laws are not arbitrarily set, to ensure realistic and good faith compliance.

Have fun on the race to the bottom

  • murder is a valid analogy in the sense that you are punishing murder just like you are punishing employment. and if you think that wages are based on a powerfull employer giving arbitrary scraps to his employee and its not based on skill level and worth than how come everyone isnt getting paid minimum wage? in fact the majority of people get paid many times that. this proves that the reason why an employer would pay $3/h is solely on worth, therefor the law puts the unskilled out of work. think!

  • i am almost certain that you cannot read. But you raise an interesting point which confirms mine. Minimum wage laws exist to curtail the MOST egregious employer abuses, such as sweatshops and fruit picking operation abuses. In these operations, an employer would hire as many workers they could for the lowest wages possible, without regard for employee well being. In short, these reqs exist, not to punish employers, but to protect workers against undercutting themselves into EXTREME poverty.

  • employers will rather pay someone less than more just like an employee would rather get paid more than less. if min. wage law is the only thing stopping greedy employers from paying everyone 5 cents a day then howcome most people get paid much more than that? why cant you admit that wages are a function of supply and demand for a value and not a law that barney frank passes. your agrument would only make sense if everyone was employed and everyone was making the same sub living standard wage.

  • you have a gross misunderstanding of how employment works.lets say that the min. wage was raised to $15 per hour, do you think that all the 14 year olds at mcdlds would simply all get paid $15 with the only effect of money going from mcdls profit to the employees? you dont think that you would be pulling up to the drivethru entering buttons on a fully computerized screen? and then the 14 y/o whose labor is only worth $7 will be unemployed and unemployable. if the machine cost $11 it gets the job

  • Why can you not read? To your first point: I have not said that the minimum wage dictates wages.

Min wage does not seek to suggest the proper wage for workers, it acts as a wage floor for workers at jobs that offer little or no advancement or wage increase, and not a suggestion of how much a worker, or work in general is worth. It is not a suggestion of what a firm should pay, it is a floor at which firms may not pay below. If you fail to get the distinction you are lost.

  • your almost there but you still dont quite get it. employers will not hire someone if they are loosing money, wages are not a function of a law. if you lower the min wage more people will be employed b/c more unskilled tasks become viable to pay someone to do, if you raise min wage then you have less jobs because some tasks become not viable to pay someone to do, you dont seem to get this, min wage law is a law against employment not a law that raises anyones wage more than it otherwise would be

  • Demand, not employers, creates jobs. If a firm sees a demand for a product or service that exceeds their ability to provide it, they hire workers or machines to fill in the gap between production and demand. You keep suggesting that I believe the min to be too low, I have not posited that.

McD will surely be nearly completely automated in the future if they prefer fewer workers and they feel it is in their best interest to deploy automation services.

  • so if the min wage gets raised to $15 per hour then you agree that its not putting a floor on the wages of the mcdls employees (because it lowers it from $7 to 0) but it does put a ceiling on the amount of jobs that are viable and in existence. I keep thinking that you are almost getting it and then you totally say sometihng insane and your back to where you started. A job exists if someone will work for less than his contribution to an employer. if the min wage is more than that amount, no job

  • I think that you finally "got" it. If an employer wants to hire a worker but cannot afford to pay the minimum rate as required by statute, then he HAS NO JOB to offer. You understand that means that he has no business offering said employment. You can argue that the rate at which the min is set in a certain area is too high or low, but you cannot make a compelling case that there should be no min wage at all.

  • not suggesting that your saying min wage is too low im saying that min wage has no effect on raising a wage more than it otherwise would be..it only destroys jobs that would otherwise be there. do you really think that an employer would pay an employee more and lose money just because barmey frank says so? or are you gonna be reasonable and think that the employer would lay off that employee and stop losing money? sorry if im rude but its your ignorance is dangerous. it causes economic problems

  • The point of employment is not simply to be employed. It is to turn work into something that can be easily exchanged for goods and services. In short, you work so that you can eat and live, and not to "be employed". So, a person needs to be able to pay for food, shelter, services with the work they perform. Labor is always more abundant than employment, hence the need for a wage floor to keep employer abuse of the labor surplus to a minimum and provide remedies for those who are abused.

  • @Infomaniack

Very small-minded, sir. Workers compete over jobs just as employers compete over labor. Price discovery is a legitimate acitivity in the free market. You *cannot* legislate higher wages. If businesses can't find productivity to meet the new minimum wage, they simply have capital replace them. It's really no coincidence you find people pushing these kinds of laws have no serious, professional economic credentials.

  • All work is voluntary. So there is an inherent double standard at play here regardless of what the traditions and the specifics of the law happen to be. That's like trying to excuse hypocrisy with incidence.

Unless Frank wants to clean that double standard up right away and make government force people to work, too.

  • How does this guy get these interviews? He has interviewed some pretty important people.

  • These interviews are great, but they do have a Borat flavor to them.

  • As a Mass resident, it doesn't matter who you vote (the voting box is just a suggestion box for slaves) for because they redistrict his area so that he wins every time. He has so much union and lobbyist money in his pocket that it is impossible to vote him out.

  • Gerrymandering is an unfortunate part of our process. It is the part of the process that keeps us slaves. There is no USA anymore. I still dream of freedom; but it's just that, a dream.

  • To the people who elected this jackass:

Barney's Frank behavior reflects on you. If he acts like a dumbass the American people conclude that the people he represents are dumbasses.

    Perhaps you are.

  • How do jackasses like Barney Frank get elected?

I'm ashamed that his electors share my human nature.

  • I've never liked Frank. He is too aggressive and dismissive of other views. He's also directly responsible for very bad policies.

Nevertheless, I have to give this one to him, Jan.

  • i think dennis miller said about frank "Frank knows hes right, and if you dont know, then your an idiot"

  • Tax freedom day, the day your taxes are covered for the year, has now been moved up to August so everyone works for Barney's Frank, state and local governments for the greater portion of the year before you get to keep what you earn.

  • You left wing troll job, Barney Frank didnt own anything other than another male prostitute

  • @LIYFProductions Verrry true. all politicians are prostitutes that are raping the whole country with personal favors. All politicians should work for free and eliminate taxation, not just to lower it. It's all extortion. Read "The DOOZIE". Amazon. It lays the plan for correction. This dude is immoral, as all politicians are. He'd do his grandmother for 50 cents.

  • I think you're barking up the wrong tree with this one, Jan.

Everybody understands why an internship is different than a job working at McDonalds.

If you're able to get access to politicians for interviews, there are far better questions you can ask to try to make them look like hypocrites. Unfortunately, YOU are the one who comes off looking poorly in these exchanges.

  • people are forced to work hard, and the law is there to protect them, hahahahaha!

  • I have to agree with Barney Frank. I really don't see why he would be obligated to pay volunteer workers. I have gladly volunteered my time as an unpaid intern for work experience. Also the guy was incredibly rude with the interview and would not allow the other guy to talk.

I can't think of nearly anything else he usually says that I agree with but if I want to work for somebody for free to get job experience then how could that possible be against the law?

  • If I want to work for somebody for $1.00/hour to get job experience then how could that possibly be against the law?

It's against the law to work for $1.00/hour but I can legally work for $0.00/hour.

  • Who isn't a volunteer worker in this country? The meaning of the work, the essence of the service is exactly the same! Only the rhetoric and the terminology is different. Everyone loves to box their thinking behind the rhetoric that justifies their ideas and pretend they're reasonable, but Frank is failing to understand the equivalence in the question.

  • Barbey Frank is the biggest moron on the planet, so are his electors.

  • I would have liked Jan to allow Frank to speak his complete answers. (Although the time might not have allowed that.) It looked like he might actually gradually get to a point where he would completely contradict himself. I also would have like Jan to agree with Frank right after 5:30, to move the discussion forward.

  • Sodomy is against the law isn't it?

  • under jans idea it shouldnt be y cant we make our choices say i want to have my kids make child porn shouldnt i have that right to and not let the govt tell me not

  • Not in Barney's lawbook

  • Barney Frank is from my area He is a very sick man!

  • i cant understand what frank is even saying

  • Nice rhetoric.

Republicans suck - Democrats suck. There's no difference between the two. Which one shrinks Government, follows the Constitution and stops spending fake fiat currency controlled by a Private Corporation?

Freedom is the only goal of this Country - anything that limits that is unlawful as is the Government EMPLOYEE to implements it.

  • Exactly. That's because you stay poor if you work for a low wage. If you're unemployed due to minimum wage laws, then you're getting richer. That's obvious for anybody, that is not a republican hack.

  • this interruption argument is as arrogant as it can get.

  • So If someone just want to voluntary accept less then money then minimum wage. Aha!

  • I don't think the whole intern thing is disadvantageous to those interning. But to become so difficult is a mark of a man who cannot take the slightest criticism. I wouldn't let Frank have dinner with me. Obvious power has rotted his brain.

  • the private sector does have individuals work for free at times. In dental labs, most perspective employees must submit to a working interview, i.e. completing a certain amount of case work to be considered for employment. The lab gets free labor with no obligation to hire.

  • Working interviews are not "internships", but nice stretch. Most jobs are based upon education and a college degree shows the education, if you need to know how well they did, you can ask for transcripts. However if you need to be able to do model work, wax, metal, or porcelain work in the dental lab field a resume does not show how well you can perform this job, so a working interview is sometimes required.

  • Man, Barney looks irate!

  • So he wants to 'protect' people who don't have a lot of money from working the amount they want..

And he wants to 'protect' people who don't have a lot of skills to be able to work low payed jobs..

Who he really wants to protect are unions from competition.

  • maybe we should just bring back slavery i know republicans would love that

  • When 40% of the money you make is taken from you, what you drink, what you eat, how you have sex, when you can get married, who you can get married to, it is all proscribed to you, is it a remote possibility that slavery doesn't need to be brought back?

  • Barney, whats the difference between someone voluntarily working for free or voluntarily working for below minimum wage?

  • Slave labor under the guise of education.

  • Comment removed

  • What do you mean?

  • Where did you get your education? Out of a cracker jack box. Maybe you need to learn to spell and make coherent sentences before posting here.

  • nigger u going to answer my question?

  • Apparently you need the education since you cannot spell conservative correctly.

  • what is your problem with education?

  • Why don't you respect the right of the employee to decide for himself if it is in his self interest to work for less than the minimum wage? Why are you willing to make him go hungry,(in the burrito example)?

  • because we need a price floor to prevent exploitation (sp)

this whole "hungry' seniro is a moot point im sorry if someone cant get a job for 8 hr there is something wrong with them, either a crack head or a complete idiot

    a measley 8 hr?

unlike the right i actually think people CAN sell themselves for more than a slave wage i give more credit to people

jan the burrito thing is a slave seniro is slavery what u want?

and who is stopping anyone from eating?

  • Increase minimum wage... prices go up

I think it is more important to change our monetary policy (ie. we are paying taxes to pay interest to the fed for money that they print out of thin air, when we could just print greenbacks interest free!)

  • outsourcing will only suck when its your job i guess huh?

besides if a worker cant afford to buy the products he/she makes then they are not getting paid "to much" as you say

i think this all really boils down to lowering the standard of living for people

  • I think it's quite obvious why this has never taken off. people are deadly afraid that if they repeal it, they'll be paid nothing basically. it will be open season for extreme exploitation. those making minimum wage now, will get half or less, and pretty much everyone in the country's wage will go down. it'll never happen, and i think some of those fears are justified.

  • current climate? that can always change i pray slavery never comes back (i hope u feel the same)

  • all due respect you lost me at "outsourseing is much better in all regards" PLEASE explain that

i look at how the worker will actually preform for the money i pay them

i pay low i get low results

  • so is slavery evil when u make this permanent

besides i need to meet these people that you rigt wingers say are worth less than 7 hr for example let me guess trigg palin?

i dont know if id trust someone wroking for food to do data processing

  • Jan gets thrown out again! What a shock! Stark and Pelosi also threw him out. Where to next? How does he get these interviews in the first place?

  • Frank is such a drama king. The amount of hubris exhibited by him is overwhelming.

  • hell, I've heard about this male maddam, but now I've seen it as well.

what's with the snow nose picking and finger bitting while flopping around in the chair like he's got something stuck up his butt vibrating?

Jan, you should have asked about the min wage for the boys in his brothel..that would have shut him up.

Why the gold fringe around the flag would have been a good question as well.

  • I've worked 80 hours a week and loved it

  • lol "sir, i will not be interrupted!"

  • It goes for PELOSI as well.

  • Exemplary work here, my friend. It's people like you who we should be seeing more of in the mainstream media.

  • Barney is lying through his teeth or doesn't know or care what he is talking about. I don't know which.

Private company owner, try hiring an intern to learn let's say roofing. Tell him the number of days he is required to report to work and tell him that his duties will be evaluated for productivity and "usefulness" and just see how fast you get hauled in for breaking labor laws.

  • y not? where i live the local mcdonalds has an agreement with the local high school for the special ed kids to work for an hr and a half every day during school hrs to gain work experience and credit

    totally legal

  • y not what? y not hire special ed students to work at McDonalds? I can't think of any reason not to do so. In fact, perhaps the school should pay McDonalds for imparting learning experience to them. K?
