Upon acceptance of winning it, Obama was praised by the committee, "extraordinary efforts to strengthen international diplomacy". . They also gave the peace prize to Yasser Arafat, the leader of the PLO, the best known terrorist organization on the globe. This is like giving it to David Duke, the former Grand Wizard of the KKK.

Actually, Hamas is a political party with an independent politically motivated military wing (al-Qassam) which won a majority of Parliamentary seats and Cabinet positions in Gaza through free and fair elections, gaining popularity in Gaza for building schools, hospitals, and libraries. Even though they are designated a terrorist organization by some nations, they are also vital to the peace process. The problem is, neither Israel nor the U.S. will listen to their cease-fire proposals.
Good to see Jimmy Carter telling some truths in the US media. He was always a decent man. I doubt his views will have too much of an impact, though -US politics are totally controlled by Israel's interests and the public is brainwashed by a heavily biased media. But we can only hope.
