I remember watching Fridays back in the day. Did anyone notice Kramer doing the intro? He was hilarious on this show. And a great old song too, Rindy Ross was quite the dish!
this is an awesome song, and harden my heart is really an epic and beautiful song. defintly a romantic song. beautiful, beautiful song!!!!! long live quarterflash and harden my heart!!!!
@twoo57 I couldn't agree more. I am tempted to repeat "nowadays music that they play is bullshit", but I guess it would be more objective to say it is not to my taste.
Pop used to be mostly about love, including broken heart's like this. These days it is mostly either music for tweens, complaints about how life sucks, or pseudo-pimp bragging. Rap isn't music, but some of it is good poetry. Oh well, it is said that the Romans complained about their young people 2,000 years ago. Plus ça change...
@bhixson It was my understanding that this band started in Seattle or somewhere here in the Pacific NW. Great band and tune from the 80's (the music wasn't so bad after all.....LOL).
To the previous comment, I'll bet you always had the ability to spot that in a person. Wonder where that comes from . One of the most out of context dumb ass comments ever.
@dapianoguy07 - Sadly? Shouldn't that be used when something horrible happens to one. Such as..."sadly, she was killed at 19 in that horrible car wreck" What a fuckin' judgemental comment. Believe me, there a many happy lesbians in the world and many sad, unhappy straight people. Sadly, your a fuck head!!
@dapianoguy07 Sadly? Should that be used as in...."Sadly, she was killed at 19 in that horrible car wreck". There are many happy Lesbians and many sad, unhappy straight people. Sadly, your a idiot!
@innamorata40 Sadly, You're not morally right! You are blinded by the devil in thinking that homosexuality is something normal. No it is not!! God doesn't like that lifestyle. God made Adam and Eve not Adam and Steve! Since you say I'm an idiot, I think you're a homosexual. You stood up for something unholy. It's like you're approving convicted murderers to be released from prison to continue their killing spree.
@dapianoguy07 There is factual science of evolution. God wants you to love all, the rest is up to him. I just wonder how perfect of a human you are day to day. And don't tell me you've never sinned. A sin is a sin. Regardless of the sin. BTW homosexuality is mentioned fewer than any other sin in the bible. Adultry is considered worse. Get off your high horse and just worry about your actions during your life, not others!
@dapianoguy07 If two people want to love one another and live together and try to have a good life together, what's it any of your fucking business. Put your energy into your goverment and try to help master the budget, resolve the medical crisis in this country and get the Illegals out of the country. Again, if two tax paying citizens want to love and share their life together, it's none of your fucking business and your opinion, I guarantee will not change it!
I agree Rindy's got 1 up over Pat,she's multi-talented. Some neat stuff came from the 50's era as well, don't forget "The Fonz"!!! Maybe there really are maltshops in the sky ;)
Hey, hey. I've got a few episodes of "Fridays" that I recorded in the early 80's when they ran the reruns late night on ABC. Melanie Chartoff, Mary Edith Burrell and Bruce Mahler, who were part of the cast, as well as Larry David (co-writer of Seinfeld) also guest-starred on Seinfeld.
I have the "Fridays" episode of Kim Carnes doing "Betty Davis Eyes;" which also had William Shatner doing some funny parodies from Star Trek.
I recorded this on a Sanyo Betacord machine purchased in 1978 for $750. That sucker must have weighed fifty pounds if it weighd an ounce. The thing I most loved about this song was Marv's all too brief guitar solo at the 2:05 mark.
Yeah, it's a very tasteful guitar solo. There's another live version on here where he plays an extended solo and then a nice descending harmony thing with the other guitarist.
Thanks for the tip. I found the 5:27 version you're referring to and it's as good as live music gets. It gives guitarists Marv Ross and Jack Charles a little more time to shine. Like many other Portland fans I first heard this song in the local clubs when the band was called Seafood Mama. They couldn't get the legal rights to that name, hence Quarterflash.
Steely Dan? To me they are very differnt groups, both have a palce in their own right. Just one rocks more than the other. I actually wouldn't put Marv's solso into a Steely Dan song. Then again I wouldn't put "Skunk" Baxter's solos in a Quarterflash song either. As The Offspring sang I like to "Keep 'em separated." lol. Loving all groups listed above as it were.
That would be tough for me. I see Quarterflash as they are. Which is not really a pedal steel kind of group. They have a sound that albeit mellow can hit you hard. SD is much more of a laid back type of group, where a pedal steel sound would play more of integral role. It's hard to add anything to Give me Rindy's sax and Marv's riffs.
QF is from Portland, OR. I will be seeing them perform their 30th Anniversary concert on New Years Eve here in Portland.

Sadly she's a lesbian.

DVD anytime soon. I don't know how you got it.

But, what a great solo it was. The harmonics are always good. I think it is part of the "signature," of this great song.? Do you (anyone) agree?
r1skate 3 years ago
Marv's work here pretty much defines the word "tasty" when it's applied to guitar solos. Sounds good enough for Steely Dan, doesn't it?
