"4 on the floor" 4 spd gear shift- mounted above tranny=on the floor. Some cars used to have manual shift on steering column-"3 on the tree"

"140 in the top end floored" top end/floored = redlined or max. rpm.

purrs....'til the lake pipes roar=Lake Co. manuf. of extravagant chrome side exhaust pipes. Personally, I thought it was "late" pipes, which I assumed were doors on an exhaust system that could be openned when racing, bypassing muffler restrictions-NOISE.
