  • Orientflover1: I was just a child of 4-5 years. However, if I close my eyes I can see my 2nd floor residence, overlooking the street. On the corner was a mithai shop. There were localities Ram Nagar & Krishan Nagar. There was possibly a nullah nearby. This is the visual picture of 63 years ago.

  • The actress to the right of Rehana with sitar is Paro. She hailed from Mairuth. She was known as "Mairuth ki Qainchi" ( Scissors of Meerut) in Bombay film circles in mid 1940s due to her sweet talk and refined mannerism which she had learned as a mujra dancer in Mairuth. One evening she invited Ashok Kumar at her apartment and made seductive gestures but he rejected her advances. As he left she said "Ashok bhaiya, I was just testing you. Ashok sahib, I consider you as my elder brother".

  • Actress playing violin on the left is Bimla Kumari. She sings film Barsat song Hawa mein udta jai mora lal dupatta malmal ka. She also sings Dheere se aaja ri akhian mein nindia aaja ri aaja in film Albela. She sings at a mujra Jaan meri jaan o meri jaan achha nahin itna sitam, in film Sahib Bibi aur Ghulam.

  • who is the other singer at the beginning? she sounds like suraiya

  • @cricketlover1117 The other singer is Sarswari Rane, a classical singer of her time. She was persuaded by C.Ramchandra to sing on his compositions but normally she did not sing in movies at all.

  • @orientlover1 Saraswati Rane is correct. She was also a daughter of Abdul Karim Khan and a sister of Hirabai Badodekar, and accomplished classical singer herself.

  • true simplicity and yet so beautiful, these are the spirit from the bygone ear only to revisit our lives in our ever lonely and destructive journey of life. we have overcome much difficult human history through the advancement of science and technology but we have failed to appreciate the most simple and beautiful things in life. thank god have the opportunity to enjoy these historical moments at least in black and white. thanks from the bottom of my heart. foyzul ahmed from bangladesh.

  • Thanks Isaac ji for sharing such beautiful song with such beautiful lyrics. Your chice of songs is really great. They all go in my fav. With my respect and regards. Sarla.

  • My joy at this song is no less than that expressed byso many others. A feather in the cap of CR and Lata, when CR strode like a giant among all composers. A great song in every respect, composition, rendering, instrumental in sitar.

  • This melodious song in raag Asawari has always been one of my favourite songs since my childhood.C.Ramchandra was a wizard and Lataji ,excellent.Sargam was a light hearted musical comedy starring Raj Kapoor n Rehana. Young Raj excelled in such roles those days.

  • My search is finally over.Thank you.

  • What a joyful sight to see the group of ladies with their sitars!:) I loved the fast tempo of the tarana at the end. (I got transported to join them. lol :) I particularly loved the sight of that little girl so sweetly engrossed in singing along and taking in all that beautiful music around her! :) That is deja vu. Thank you so much. What a delightful collection you have! .... some of them I never would've even discovered had it not been for youtube, and folks like you. :) With gratitude. Ritu

  • @ritupm the little girl singing is Baby Tabassum who appeared in many movies as child star like Baiju Bawra and Aaram etc.
