Steam distillation has pretty discouraging yields, but it's traditionally the best way to get pure essential oils. Be careful when using them, as they are quite concentrated (if you decide to go out and get them). Herb-infused oils are great fun, and adding a little beeswax can turn it into a salve! Fun times.
I'm not sure if you gotten an answer from how to make sage oils, but I believe its the same as how to make mint oils. Just get yourself a bottle of 80 proof or higher vodka and some clippings. Wash your clippings then stuff a zip lock bag with your sage then pour the vodka into the bag also. Zip it then place it into your freezer and let it sit for a couple of weeks. The oil will freeze and the vodka won't freeze. Strain the mixture then thaw out the oils. The vodka is reusable. Hope this helps.
@FBboy2 I'm not sure what it's like in your state, but it's actually illegal to burn the kind you're thinking of in any way except as incense. Smoking Salvia Officinalis would be a great way to induce coughing, but not a high.
.... is less harmful.. you don't have to dilute it, etc. and it can also be infused 1 or even 2 MORE times to make it stronger still. Essential oils are... wow. very strong & dangerous to use. you have to be careful with them. Herb infused oils aren't like that... so I suggest that.
@ibkristykat Oh, you said what I did. As an aromatherapy consultant, I can corroborate that essential oils are concentrated enough to be dangerous if you use them without proper respect.
I'm currently using dried sage (bought) in an Extra Virgin Olive Oil carrier and cold infusing it... shall be done in a month. Mountain Rose Herbs says to do it for 3 to 6 weeks. I did 4 oz. of herb and just covered it with the oil (cover it completely), and shake it once a day for the 3 to 6 weeks. This can then be used as an anointing oil, or even to lightly massage for medicinal use. I've read a lot of warnings of Essential oils, & that fixed oils or herb infused oils (as I'm doing) is
I know this is an older video but I grow sage and sweetgrass in my yard. I'm in So Cal so it grows all year. (it should where you are in Florida too!) I have this little garden ritual thing that I do when I plant these plants and then they are harvested for smudge sticks. Smudge sticks are very very easy to do. I weave some sweetgrass in there for good vibration. Oh, I also grow my own lavender and I'll put a flower stalk in the middle of the smudger as well. I smudge cleanse often.
Sage essential oil is obtained through steam distillation. There is a bunch of info on the Internet about it. Here is a sort version of the process. The sage is put in the boiling pot of a still along with some water. The water is heated. Steam rises carrying the oil with it. The steam then goes into a condenser where it condenses back into a liquid. The liquid is then left to sit. The oil will form a layer on top of the water. A separatory funnel is ideal for separating the oil from the water
sage is very good for burning to cleanse the space...and you get really used to the smell! :) i burn it during the day and before i sleep leaving the window open for the negativity of the day to exit...it has to go somewhere lol... )O( blessed be ~Fawn
Hi I am founder of a Paranormal group. Sage is very good in cleansing of your home. You can make a sage smudge stick with your harvest, Also you can take the Sage leaves and soak them for several wks in a carrier oil and create a Sage oil, Then u can add a few drops of your Sage oil to a bottle of distilled water and that creates a Sage spray to cleanse you home. If you want more info I have a vid on Saging : )
wicca is good iam witch my self .u could use sage to bless ur house our love spells...sage hmm ask the crafty witch she good she on here u tube type in her name crafty witch
Yes, he was from the middle-east and they use it over there for a lot of things. He told me it had a lot of medicinal properties, but like I said, I tried it once and didn't like the smell or taste. :)
To do the infused oil you can heat up some vegetable oil in a pan with a good amount of leaves(bruised with a pestle and mortar). You can just leave that on a gentle heat to let the leaves infuse the oil but you dont want to fry the leaves lol, do that till you can smell the sage. Or another way would be to fill a jar or bottle with the leaves and then pour over some warm-semi hot olive oil and leave for about 2-3 weeks
Go with the second method and i meant to say 3-4 weeks, forgive me in tired and hit the wrong keys haha. just shake it up daily and keep an eye on it to make sure the leaves dont turn rancid. it may be ready sooner, you will know as when ready the leaves will generally lose most their colouring
