12 step groups and religions dont use any force, they are voluntary. Governments are people who are using threats and violence to force people to pay for their services. Taxes are not voluntary. @Azorka64 Wouldn't "noncompliance" be for those times when a person has obviously shown through their lack of ability to make choices for their own actions that interfere with others' lives (or potentially).
To ALL those who seem to have an issue with the fact that AA AND other programs that actually help those who want to get better, HERE'S A QUESTION FOR YOU.... If God were to show up at your front door, would you answer it? If you did answer it, what would He look like to YOU PERSONALLY? THAT is the God of YOUR PERSONAL understanding at this time. "The God" as earlier described (& I DO BELIEVE IN THE 1 & ONLY GOD WHO CREATED US), has MANY names & characteristics. Check your Bible.
@ Hammersley1967..."HAVE YOU EVER BEEN PUNCHED IN THE TITS!!!?" How COMPLETELY inappropriate do you get anyway? If you really wanna know, I've taken MANY punches from alcoholics who needed help & people so full of hate & anger like you!

@DobermansRock Good! Good for you then! It's not ok for a man like Bill Wilson, who wanted to make a difference in the world (& has) to support his family & help others too? He offered his & Louis's home to many people in need & did in-numberable good deeds for man-kind. What is wrong with that? One of the sayings in AA is "Take what you need & leave the rest"...They DONT shove anything on anyone. Also, someone said in previous post somewhere that it costs to be in AA. There is a $1 DONATION.

WISH I COULD REMOVE MY VIEW ADDED TO THE COUNT OF TIMES THIS SICK VIDEO HAS BEEN VIEWED! THIS IS SADDDDD THAT ANYONE WOULD TALK NASTY ABOUT THIS SUBJECT OR THE VERY PEOPLE WHO ACTUALLY DID SOMETHING TO HELP MILLIONS OF ALCOHOLICS AS WELL AS THEIR FAMILIES! I PRAY NONE OF YOU HAVE FAMILY OR FRIENDS WHO ARE ALCOHOLICS, MAYBE YOU HAVE A PARENT THAT WAS/IS ONE. YOU ARE CARRYING WOUNDS FROM THE DISEASE YOU JUST HAVENT REALIZED YET - AND IT IS A FACT THAT IT'S A DISEASE. NEITHER AA OR ALANON ARE CULTS
@willbond The AA cult destroys many lives by polluting peoples minds with nonsensical-bullshit. The victims of the AA cult think they are participating in a scientifially proven program. When in reality they are involved in a dangerous mind-stopping religious cult. The deception in AA is part of their web of lies.

This is very sick. You should be ashamed of yourself. Bill W. helped to start one of the best societal organizations to help those with a desire to stop drinking ever devised.

@somethingdiffereable AA destroyed Sheen's mind? Are you retarded? Have you no critical thinking skills whatsoever? Does your momma know you're using her computer?
Charlie destroyed his own mind (with meth) all by himself. If an ideology "destroys your mind" (eg fundamentalist Christianity, Fascism, AA, etc), then its the fault of the idiot that fanatically clung to the ideology to the detriment of his life - not the ideology. Saying that an ideology "destroyed my mind" is is akin to saying that "alcohol" destroyed my mind - as if the booze jumped down your throat all by itself. We are all responsible for what we do to our own minds.
"You find nothing. In all that collection of mental hardware in this endless stream of ever-shifting experience all you can find is innumerable impersonal processes which have been caused and conditioned by previous processes. There is no static self to be found; it is all process. You find thoughts but no thinker, you find emotions and desires, but nobody doing them. The house itself is empty. There is nobody home."
Well that's the best thing about the "cult"! If you don't like it, you are free to leave and never come back if you choose. The "cult" also allows people to disagree or take any or all of it any way they please. Neither does it compel you to pay one cent if you don't want to, and the little that most do give, profits or supports no one. So don't let the door hit you in the ass on the way out!
@attic500 I hate to burst you bubble but there is no such disease as alcoholism. And god isn't really either. Oh yeah, AA is just a weird little cult!
I attic500 I hate to burst you bubble but there is no such disease as alcoholism. And god isn't really either. Oh yeah, AA is just a weird little cult!
As long as you think you stopped on your own...then you are in big trouble, Selfishness and self centredness is the ROOT of our problem, driven by a hundred forms of fear, and no HUMAN power can relive you of your Alcoholizm
@redroadwalker THIS is ONE MAJOR, MOST IMPORTANT FACT of AA - A power GREATER than ourselves! Some people think they have no need for the "God of THEIR understanding", so they either don't stuck to it, have a MAJOR support system outside AA, or just don't get better."
a.a. only works for the alcoholic who can get honest. so that explains all this drunken rhetoric. we have to quit fighting everybody and everything including alcohol oh yeah dumbasses too.
@videocircus Also, alcohol is officially a disease according to the CDC. Smoking is not. When you quit smoking cigarettes, it was different than dad quitting drinking. When I quit smoking weed and cigarettes (hi, I'm Tim, 20 years old), it was different than my dad quitting drinking. You are misinformed, inexperienced, and thus entangled in an unfortunate misjudgement of a wonderful blessing that saved my father's life (2 year sober).
I never said that people can't find sobriety in the AA program killerwhale.........is what I said is that the way they do it, is through brainwashing and manipulation which is wrong and should not be accepted by anyone. I am not inexperienced as you keep claiming. AA teaches a system of having a spiritual awakening in "A God" and not "The God" this is blasphemy and is what makes its foundation evil. Is what makes it a cult is it's system of total conrol over its members.
@videocircus The idea of brainwash is a stretch, man. As far as experience: my dad is an AA member, and he's not brainwashed. Who do you know? How do you know it's brainwash? Because they don't discriminate spirituality?
You ask me how do I know it is brainwashing LOL. I was a member of AA, that's how. I was also lucky enough to come across some people early into the program that were ex-members of AA who explained to me how the brainwashing of AA works. Some of these people I spoke with were 20 year ex-members of AA who only found peace after they escaped the cult. There testimonies are powerful and once I looked into it ....My eyes opened and I saw the cult within AA.
No, I don't drink and have maintained sobriety without the brainwashing techniques of AA. I am personaly able to maintain sobriety through prayer, self-control, and the desire to live an alcohol free lifestyle. I constantly remind myself of how misserable things where when I was drinking and how it negatively affected various different aspects of my life. All these things combined gives me the strength to turn my back on alcohol. AA IS A BRAINWASHING CULT similar to the FREEMASONS
Well if you do attend AA meetings, you will one day realize how manipulating the program is over every aspect of your life. It teaches its members that only those who attend AA are Sober and all others who attempt to obtain sobriety by other means are "Dry Drunks" and are not actualy sober and that they will FAIL.
To be succesful in AA you must completely submit to the BIG BOOK and the 12 Steps within it and all the teachings in its pages. If you do not you are not welcome in AA
@videocircus You and I have apparently had very different experinces with AA. I went to meetings for 2 years. There was nothing cult about it. There was the religious aspect, sure, and I'm an atheist, but there was no pressure to believe in any particular dogma, as a matter of fact it seemed frowned upon to try and promote any particular brand of religion. My sponsor was great and was only interested in helping me stay sober.
AA is not FREE.............the cost of AA is your mind and your well being. This is what they are after, total and complete control of how you think. And then when they have control over that they convince you that you can't live without them and the 12 step program. They reject the idea that people can remain sober without them and call anyone who obtains Sobriety by any other means "DRY DRUNKS" which is pretty insulting to all of us out there that are sober without AA
@videocircus i dont know what AA meeting you been too but i never been told that Dry drunk is sobering without them Dry Drunks are people who are dry and stil have the same way of thinkng you did when drinking like losing your temper and kicking someones ass you dont have to be drunk to end up in jail i can do that just fine being sober i know alot of dry drunks who stil attend AA meetings your right AA does change your mind it admits that in the 2 and 3rd step thats what insanity and ur will is
There is no such thing as a "Dry Drunk". In the game of alcoholism you are either an alcoholic, a recovering alcoholic, or a recovered alcoholic. I have never lost my temper while driking or gotten in any sort of physical altercation in all the years that I have drank. I have come to the colusion that alcohol consumption indeed effects how the brain makes a person behave, however it is different from one person to another. Myself, I have always been the quite, happy drunk.
@videocircus ur telling me you never blacked out and woke up in a jail ceil for beating someones ass and didnt remember it? i dont believe an alcoholic ever gets recovered there is no such thing someone with 50 yrs of drinkin is just as capable of relapse then with someone with 5 days ive been sober for 2 yrs at age 24 i been thru the ringer . I can be a happy drunnk too or i can be the asshole there is not limit with me
Yes Mark, I am a full fledged alcoholic and have never had a black out, shakes, or anything like that. I have never gone to jail or been in a jail and I have never beat any one up and had no memory of doing it later. Alcoholics DO RECOVER Mark, that idea that they do not is one of AA's lies that it teaches its members. Through that very lie it is able to manipulate it's members and have stronger controll over them. JESUS is the cure and nothing else..it's as simple as that
AA is a cult...............I am an ex-member who almost fell into the brainwashing trap of AA. Most people who go to AA unfortunately are so vulnerable wiht there addiction to aclohol that they fall victim to indoctrination of the organization. Once they are trapped and brainwashed they become super defensive about the organization rather than admitting that they were brain washed and manipulated into thinking that they can't stay sober without AA. Even after 2 meetings I was believing it
Alcoholics Anonymous in non-denominational. What it refers to regarding "God", is what you perceive to be anything spiritual about this world, whether that be the workings of nature, the universe at large, or whether that be a literal God from your own religious background.
The importance is that it is God *as you understand it*. I think that perhaps, with some proper research and understanding, you might find that AA really isn't a "cult", or filled with people "out to get you".
you guys need to respect a legend who has helped countless people all across the world and probably has helped someone in your family.
Where is the prove of the millions of people it has help? or did you just take it for granted at face value. Naaaaaaaaaaa it is not a religion. Start a meeting with a prayer end it with a preyer and say how some generic god keeps you clean and of course it is not a religion.
Actually AA does not demand that you give your life to JESUS. They demand that you submit to whatever GOD you feel will help you. While not enforcing this........at the same time they teach you that until you do have a spirtiual awakening in whatever "god" you feel is your master that you will never properly understand the 12 step program and will never obtain Sobriety. This is just one of the many LIES of the cult known as AA.
Well I wouldn't go that far Hammersley. They are not nazzi's nor do I see a connection to them with AA.
However they are a Cult organization that uses powerful psychological methods of manipulation to control the lives of its members. Alcohol is not a disease, it's an addiction that can be overcome through a persons own determination, or in my case with the help of God and a strong will to quit drinking. Kind of like when I quit smoking, I beat those with my mind and God.
@videocircus "Cult" is false. AA meetings provide accountability and support that is difficult to find. You are experienced in your struggles and triumphs, yet inexperienced with the program. He didn't stop drinking alcohol because of psychiatric manipulation, he stopped because God provided him the community that can be found at AA.
@videocircus - "spiritual awakening" is misunderstood by just about everyone. On page 567 of the BB it explains that it is simply a " personality change sufficient to bring about a recovery from alcoholism"
@quickcap "spiritual awakening" is the (normal) slow form of a "spiritual experience" explained on page 27. What is the problem? Perhaps I can best answer this by relating to some prominent aa founders.
- No. 0 aa, Ebby T begged his sponsie for 5 dollars to get some drinks, Lois didn'tr complain.
- Bill Wilson got depressed.
- "Doc" Bob never stoped craving and messed his daughter w/ one of his an aa-friends.
@quickcap The german law suit excludes some freak members and hit one individual hard. The smoldering / upcoming tax suit may exclude one third of the 2800 german aa groups. The tax man catched Al Capne, the tax man kick the aass.
@andreasheinz - It's been a long time since I heard about the German law suit. My vague memory is that it centered on what AA asserted was a faulty translation of the BB which the Germans refused to change.
Now there's another suit? What is the basis of the suit? Taxes? That would be strictly a German thing wouldn't it?
@quickcap German aa has its GCO and AAWS in one body w/ a non-profit status. No sales tax for books etc. To keep that status, aa told all its groups to book all earnings and expences and sent all bills and books to their areas. Aa plans to exclude groups that refuse to cooperate.
I guess some groups will be ignorant or unwilling to do so. This can be a start of a major split.
@quickcap The new german text book is based on 3rd edition and avoids a critical question: 2001 4th edition says: meeting ios meeting, later printings (2004) says: its not. And membership: ONE million. Clever !
you guys need to respect a legend who has helped countless people all across the world and probably has helped someone in your family. If it wasn't for this guy your uncle would still be pounding Millers and plotting the next hole on your body he'd like to penetrate. But honestly have some respect for this guy, he really is a legend whos help cant be measured.
@andreasheinz.... Remove it and I'll leave it alone!
@Hammersley1967... How dare me... What part is it that offends you? That I acknowledge creativity in a mind and how fear can misquide it or that I acknowledge that AA is a working program for many who have nothing left when they find AA? This video shows the most disrespect for two people that I have seen and to think that YouTube would even allow it to be posted makes me wonder about their whole existance!
"That I acknowledge creativity in a mind and how fear can misquide it or that I acknowledge that AA is a working program for many who have nothing left when they find AA?"
Amazing what fear can make someone create... so why is it that you fear the concept of alcoholism! What a waste of a creative mind... all this talent and this is all you can do is make fun of people who are trying to improve their lives... how sad for you!
Quitting alcohol has nothing to do with quitting alcohol. This is because, in the first place, addiction to alcohol has nothing to do with alcohol. And when active, our addiction is not just about drinking and drunkenness...
Our addiction is present in the way we interact with any and all others. It's present in our moods, in our decisions on how to spend our time, in how we converse with our significant others...
It is present in how we view the world, others, relationships, and above all ourselves. It is present especially in the way we process emotions (or fail to). It's in all those things, so we have to recover in all those areas...
South Park is so full of it's own shit it's ridiculous. I can't even remember when I stopped watching it. At least AA have helped people with their addictions. What the fuck have Trey Parker and Matt Stone ever done for anyone.
@Hammersley1967 - Hammersley - I just read your comment re: Triennial Surveys and internal memo. I can't comment over there , so I just throw it out to you here.
ARE YOU SERIOUS? After all the attention you've given to this, how is it POSSIBLE that you don't realize that (1) A survey (sampling) is taken of the membership every 3 years.
(2) The internal memo (including the graph)is a commentary on the data gathered in the survey.
Oh yeah, I remember now. It was on a blame video right?
Well, it does specifically say on the very first page of the report:
"The original purposes of the survey are noted in Appendix A. The need for current and reliable information on AA. for the PUBLIC and PROFESSIONAL community..."
Appendix A confirms this.
Obviously there is also an internal AA purpose for the report, but to assert that the report is solely an "internal memo" is misleading at best, outright dishonest at worst.
"how is it POSSIBLE that you don't realize that: (1) A survey (sampling) is taken of the membership every 3 years (2) The internal memo (including the graph)is a commentary on the data gathered in the survey."
I realise both of these realities...
The surveys were taken of the membership every 3 years, and the report was an analysis of the data collected in the five surveys (1977 - 1989)...
BOTH the surveys and the report were devised in order to:
"...enable AA to furnish more accurate data about the Fellowship and its effectiveness to the growing number of professionals - doctors, psychiatrists, social workers, law enforcement officials and others - who are working today in the field of alcoholism."
No need to "reopen the debate" - it's all clearly and succinctly stated in the AA report that was deliberately and explicitly compiled for public and professional consumption...
You ppl are retards .." Shut up fat a$s fu@k you , you fu@k'n Jew !!!". South park is the bomb I remember when stan's dad went to A.A. Btw where my heroin?
powerless, how i was fooled. my new steps step 1 shut the door of the rooms behind, stop drinking, countinue to stop and get on with life. it only works for 3% pmsl what more evidence do you need that it dont work. i want to be with the so called normal people, not declareing myself different to the world.
@TheButchsmith I heard, right here on You Tube that the natural recovery rate from alcoholism is much higher than AA. I seems like you've done a lot of research on the subject. What do you think?
@quickcap aa prides itself on only working on 3% who walk throu ttheir door, hell of a spin on yhe word work? if you dispute anything or question the program, u wil b told "keep coming back" "it works if u work it " u will always have not follwed right if, u will allways be wrong cult cult cult.
@TheButchsmith - Did you get the Falwell pamphlet? From what you say, I think the group conscience was that you were not ready. This is decided secretly by the core members. If they feel they want you as an insider, they give you the Nathan Falwell pamphlet which explains the REAL program of recovery.
"Aware of the suffering created by fanaticism and intolerance, I am determined not to be idolatrous about or bound to any doctrine, theory or ideology, even AA ones. AA teachings are guiding means to help me learn to look deeply and to develop my understanding and compassion. They are not doctrines to fight, kill or die for...."
* William Griffith Wilson (personal correspondence to Dr Robert Holbrook Smith 4th November 1947)
"I would suggest, first, that you have a preliminary meeting of about twelve or fourteen AA's from the heavy membership area. You can then present your conference ideas to them and they can polish them up... and present the ideas as their own. This, I believe, ...will make all feel part of the planning. ...
Of course all this could be suggested and sold to the groups gradually through the Grapevine and special letters to the groups at large."
@Hammersley1967 Al-Anon's "Declaration of Independence" was Lois Wilson's 1944 Grapevine article. The better part (Constitution) took time. Al-Anon officially started 50s, tho.
The idea that alcoholism is a disease has always been a political and moral notion with no scientific basis. It was first promoted in the U.S. around 1785 as an erroneous physiological theory (Levine, 1978), and later became a theme of the temperance movement (Gusfield, 1963). It was revived by AA in the 1930s, which derived its views from an amalgam of religious ideas, personal experiences, anecdotal observations, and the unsubstantiated theories of a contemporary physician (Robinson, 1979)...
Further to my "bullshit should be revealed theme", have a look at this...
(And yes, this is "devil's advocate" stuff...)
“Over two decades ago, Davies sent shock waves through the alcoholism field by publishing the results of a long-term follow-up of patients treated for alcoholism at the Maudsley Hospital in London."
"In his report, Davies challenged the traditional emphasis on total abstinence as the only viable “cure” for alcoholism by showing that of 93 male alcoholics who were followed up for a period of from 7 to 11 years following treatment, seven reported a pattern of normal drinking.” (Marlatt, 1983, p. 1097).
*This is a typical "scholarly" behavioral scientist review of alcoholism research. Sounds like convincing "scientific evidence" doesn't it?
@andreasheinz Yeah I remember that moronic post! AA "$ 5-10" each meeting? What sort of crap is that? Must have been your "Beast" doing the talking!! I give $ 1, A dollar, if I have it, if not I don't give anything!
@rusedorange 3-8 or 5-10? OK, $ 3-10 each meeting. My first 70 in 90 was at about $300, cause I was broke. I wanted to thank an aa old-timer for the input and say good-bye. The response was: "Now that you grabed anything [for free] , you're going to run away, giving nothing back?".
To make it short: THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS A FREE MEETING !
@andreasheinz Looks like you & Hammer have a problem with people getting the help THEY need! Maybe YOU & HE don't need it, but there are MANY others who do & WANT to get better! Have you EVER considered that ALL people are different, their circumstances, their chemical make-up, their spiritual reality (which IS a FREEDOM here in the GOOD OLE USA!) Who are you to bash something YOU OBVIOUSLY DONT UNDERSTAND???? There's an old wise saying about walking in another mans shoes- EVER DONE THAT? NO!
@susancolemanray no it is a cult of abuse that has helped no one and harmed many.

@videocircus Also, alcohol is officially a disease according to the CDC. Smoking is not. When you quit smoking cigarettes, it was different than dad quitting drinking.

AA is not FREE.............the cost of AA is your mind and your well being. This is what they are after, total and complete control of how you think. And then when they have control over that they convince you that you can't live without them and the 12 step program. They reject the idea that people can remain sober without them and call anyone who obtains Sobriety by any other means "DRY DRUNKS" which is pretty insulting to all of us out there that are sober without AA
videocircus 1 year ago
@videocircus i dont know what AA meeting you been too but i never been told that Dry drunk is sobering without them Dry Drunks are people who are dry and stil have the same way of thinkng you did when drinking like losing your temper and kicking someones ass you dont have to be drunk to end up in jail i can do that just fine being sober i know alot of dry drunks who stil attend AA meetings your right AA does change your mind it admits that in the 2 and 3rd step thats what insanity and ur will is
TheMarkTheShark86 1 year ago
@TheMarkTheShark86
Myself, I have always been the quite, happy drunk.
videocircus 1 year ago
@videocircus ur telling me you never blacked out and woke up in a jail ceil for beating someones ass and didnt remember it? i dont believe an alcoholic ever gets recovered there is no such thing someone with 50 yrs of drinkin is just as capable of relapse then with someone with 5 days ive been sober for 2 yrs at age 24 i been thru the ringer .

@quickcap "spiritual awakening" is the (normal) slow form of a "spiritual experience" explained on page 27. What is the problem? Perhaps I can best answer this by relating to some prominent aa founders.

The surveys were taken of the membership every 3 years, and the report was an analysis of the data collected in the five surveys (1977 - 1989)...

Okay freaks, this thread is 200 comments back, starting w/ my response to rusedorange
"Trimpey sells at his seminars what he gave freely on his website moron.
AA is about $ 5-10/ meeting plus $ additional therapy.
AVRT is based on step 1, but is a condensed version of steps 2-11; or better to say some points off it . "
It was about $s, not power. Lol

@andreasheinz Yeah I remember that moronic post! AA "$ 5-10" each meeting? What sort of crap is that? Must have been your "Beast" doing the talking!! I give $ 1, A dollar, if I have it, if not I don't give anything!
rusedorange 1 year ago

NO!
