Justice didn't so much as sample from this as they remixed/rearranged it. "Tenebre (justice remix)" seems like it'd've been a more appropriate title. LIke em' both though... it's just that certain aspects of "phantom" that had I'd previously regarded as signature sounds of justice are fairly present in the original.
Conosco questo film da una vita e solo da poco ho capito cosa sentivo....pensavo fosse solo il suono delle tastiere, ma invece si nacondeva la parola...PAURA !
Hey guess what. The vinyl of Justice-Cross reads "#5 (Phantom) contains samples from the song 'Tenebrae' by Goblin". THEY GAVE GOBLIN CREDIT. Get off Justice's ass. When people sample they still have to build a song around the sample. Hence creating new music. Justice made this fucking song into pure listenable gold.
MUTHAFK JUSTICE AND ALL THOSE OTHER THIEVES. They probably saw Deathproof, ripped it from there, like Tarantino rips from EVERYWHERE. It's insulting to mention the Goblins in the same breath as all of those lame-ass bands.
@madamgmail Using a sample and making something completely new with it pays homage to something that you love, and it's a very tenuous art form. Real fans of Justice know where the sample came from, and personally it led me to not only discover the Goblins but also this film. I wouldn't say that any of that is a bad thing, would you?
@itsdavideo - when you use a sample you are suppose to CREDIT THE ARTIST. I am a big fan of electronic music but I have my limits. I am glad you discovered the Goblins, but you should thank Dario Argento for that, NOT Justice.
@madamgmail thats the truth!! i hate this "lame-ass cover-bands". why dont they create some own stuff, cause they cannot create own stuff. its 100000times harder to compose a song than to sample it
@krautsocke: I totally agree with you. It's sad to think that someone would ever think that Justice did anything new to this particular Goblin track when all they did is rip it off-it's so insulting and I hope the Goblins sued them.Justice knows their audience basically knows jack about music while Justice and many like them, troll artistic avenues looking for it's next victim: "they used snippets because they admired the sound" people are fkn putridly insane with their self-entitlement.
"The impulse had become irresistible. There was only one answer to the fury that tortured him. And so he committed his first act of murder. He had broken the most deep-rooted taboo, and found not guilt, not anxiety or fear, but freedom. Any humiliation which stood in his way could be swept aside by the simple act of annihilation: Murder."
guys, justice paid goblin for the sample and gave them writer's credit and listed them in cross's liner notes. So goblin knew about, and where fine with being sampled.
Justice made a remix of Goblin's original tune, in my opinion its really well done compared to alot of remixes out there, this is more progressive and melodic for sure but justice have their own style and it works well, however this song is fickin' addictive...
for post modern horror films they might as well use the same music score for all of them coz they all sounds the same. This artist/music score is BRILLIANT. If i was composing a horror film music score, the guy who composed this would be my inspiration.
Ive only seen the deep red and suspiria dario argento films and thought the music by goblin sounded pretty cool and scary, never seen tenebre but will definately have to check it out, just listening to the soundtrack makes me want to watch it
Immediately recognised this from Justice ''ah, so thats where it is from!'' I like Justice music too, but they definately shouldnt take all the credit from this sample
Sampling is an art form, folks, don't be so mad at Justice and those who sample. NOBODY makes anything from scratch, everybody is inspired by someone else's work.
Obviously the ones who sample take a little bit more than the average, but it still is ART!
To make a real song every band member needs experience and praktising for maybe 5-10 years. The drummer, bass, guitarist .... You need rythm and a sense or feeling for harmonies to compose a song. For a remix you need one man, a pc with the special software, a popular song from the radio and then you can say: look at me! I created a masterpiece. so i think sampling is a poor kind of art. try to learn a intrument and create own songs, then you know what i mean.
Its not their own. I make music since about 10 jears. And i dont steal songs and pimp them with effekts some cuts and beats and tell the word its a masterpiece of my own. only the original is the masterpiece. later, everyone can improve a song. but the writer invented the melodies and worked hard for the compositions Justice added only their ideas to the song. hope you understand me ( my english isnt very good)
@nabxf Unfortunately, I have to disagree with you on the Justice version sounding awesome...Its a butchered mess and sounds like very little effort was put into it.
@nabxf its never their own as long there r parts from goblin in there. they r just not good enough to create something like this by their own, cause goblin is a band with professional musicans and justice is whatever, i dont know .every dj in every small village can sample songs like this. but please try to create and compose a new song without ripping parts or ideas. thats the art of music. ;-)
its excellent , but missing very much Marangolo on Drums , the fourth player of Goblin. He was in Massachussets at this time, learning English...trinking Cocktails..examining the love world of Pott-whales...
Who the fuck is Justice??????? A not creatively man that can only sample other songs. Goblin made complicated songs without covering or sampling other peoples stuff. This is the art of music, and not to steal the ideas from bands like goblin! So Justice , why dont you try to make music by your self???
Copy and pasting War and Peace is relevant and the title of the book is completely interchangeable. That would be plagiarism. It is the same as playing a song by someone else and representing it as your own work.

Justice sucks, they ripped off the song and can't play real instruments. Anybody can program a computer to make noise, it's takes a musician to get the sounds and rhythm from the actual instruments. All Justice did was turn up the bass and replace real drums with a machine.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
I do make music, it's not number 1. Do you know what is number one? The Black Eyed Peas. Musicians know that nothing more needs to be said.
Has Justice made number 1 on any chart anywhere? No, because no instruments are played and the vocals are all done through a vocoder. Why don't you pick up an instrument and let your fat fingers fumble over frets (my alliteration destroys you).

There is no excuse for using drum machines, they sound just like drums but take no skill to use. If you're a real musician you use real instruments. I have no problem with synthesizers when used in a musical way, but drum machine are pathetic.

@mysterymediacorp I think it becomes more like a postmodern Giallo, where Argento gets to homage himself and his earlier career. i don't see how sampling decreases the validity of justice's talent especially considering the fact that everyone has equal access to pretty much every song ever released these days so why doesn't everyone make music of justice's caliber? unless you've made a CD like Cross and become as famous as successful as justice are and will be, then please be quiet. btw this original version is great and justice turned me on to Golbin, so sampling is a beneficial act.
ummm, guys, JUSTICE remade this song from the early 80s... i know, i'm not 20 something anymore... yes, i love justice too for bringing it back to the near present
There is a track on a mash-up compilation cd I got from a musician friend of mine which has Lady Tigra's Bass on the Bottom mixed with Tenebre. It's a one in a million coincidence I stumbled across this.
OMFG, this is a huge justice sample. I heard they used over 500 samples for this album, came to check some of them out and im very surprised at what I hear!
justice used this in thier album for the track 'phantom pt. II' along with others, uncluding britney spears & madonna.
its no wonder, being produced/managed by Pedre 'busy p' Winter. (he used to manage a little group known as Daft Punk, who ironically also had a habbit of 'burrowing' samples)
Ummmmm, since when has it been a secret that electronic music uses samples? That doesn't make the music any less interesting, or pleasing to listen to.
Couldn't agree with you more on that, soundtracks make all the difference to a film, you just dont get soundtracks like this anymore, in my opinion all music scores sound the same on horrors now.
I agree, its sad but true. Horror for me died in the 90's when we started getting 'post modern' horror.. ok.. most ideas for horror have been done but how about somebody compose a really cool soundtrack for a horror like this one? might make a bit of a difference to some horror film at least.. coz like you say they all look and sound the same now
Old synthesizers were analogue rather than digital. Because of this, they produced a far richer, warmer sound than today's keyboards. Modern keyboards tend to sound cold and inorganic. The only drawback to analogue keyboards is that they are far heavier (and harder to carry) and can also go out of tune (the solution to that problem is simply by tuning the keyboard with the tuning key on the back)
Thanks for this music, brings back some creepy memories! Goblin's awesome!
Tenebre is so far my favourite Argento movie. Suspiria, for instance, is overrated I think. Tenebre had way more interesting and captivating story, more my kind of film.
I think that Deep red is the best of giallo's movies of Argento because the music coordinates very well the scenes and the way Marcus discovers the assasin is very original.
The only overrated film of Argento is Suspiria because it has many mistakes in the plot.
I just need to see this film. I watched Profondo Rosso and Suspiria yesterday and I'm really in love with the work of this director. Great eye for camera views, lighting, colours... And unique horror film soundtracks to top it off! And I love the sudden endings Dario creates, he leaves all the "useless" stuff out.
Pupukummu, since you are from Finland, I can tell you that you can rent Tenebre from nearly any Videofirma Makuuni-store in this country. Go get it! =)

There is a track on a mash-up compilation cd I got from a musician friend of mine which has Lady Tigra's Bass on the Bottom mixed with Tenebre. It's a one in a million coincidence I stumbled across this.
sunnyallthetime 2 years ago 2
Ya..that's a DJ Paul V. mashup of Justice's Phantom and The Lady Tigra's Bass on the Bottom. It's on the Best of Bootie 2007 compilation.

OMFG, this is a huge justice sample. I heard they used over 500 samples for this album, came to check some of them out and im very surprised at what I hear!
xSurkinLoverx 2 years ago 2
justice used this in thier album for the track 'phantom pt. II' along with others, uncluding britney spears & madonna.
its no wonder, being produced/managed by Pedre 'busy p' Winter. (he used to manage a little group known as Daft Punk, who ironically also had a habbit of 'burrowing' samples)

including* Pedro* srry for the spelling mistakes.

Ummmmm, since when has it been a secret that electronic music uses samples? That doesn't make the music any less interesting, or pleasing to listen to.
paintball3r9811 2 years ago 3
such an awesome soundtrack, especially for a horror movie. the movie's alright, but the soundtrack totally makes it worth watching.
voivittujen 2 years ago
Couldn't agree with you more on that, soundtracks make all the difference to a film, you just dont get soundtracks like this anymore, in my opinion all music scores sound the same on horrors now.
jiggarypokery 2 years ago 3
Sadly, You are 200% right... and the films themselves all look the same too.
Celestron1980 2 years ago 2
I agree, its sad but true. Horror for me died in the 90's when we started getting 'post modern' horror.. ok.. most ideas for horror have been done but how about somebody compose a really cool soundtrack for a horror like this one? might make a bit of a difference to some horror film at least.. coz like you say they all look and sound the same now
jiggarypokery 2 years ago 4
Wow, this actually sounds really modern in itself, what the 4-to-the-floor beat and 707 drums.

One answer:
Claudio Simonetti

Hahaha.
Olé!
U're completely right.

I've been looking for this OST for ages and can't find it. if you wanna trade or if you can provide a link for it I would be most greatfull.
iBulgey 2 years ago 2
Got no links, I sometimes send music to people who I'm in contact with on a regular basis.

Great soundtrack for a awesome movie. One of Argento's gems.
damoc9 3 years ago
Thanks for this music, brings back some creepy memories! Goblin's awesome!
Tenebre is so far my favourite Argento movie. Suspiria, for instance, is overrated I think. Tenebre had way more interesting and captivating story, more my kind of film.

i just watched this, deep red and phenomena and honestly, i prefer this and phenomena to deep red, i think it is a bit overrated.
OSHKA84 3 years ago
I think that Deep red is the best of giallo's movies of Argento because the music coordinates very well the scenes and the way Marcus discovers the assasin is very original.
The only overrated film of Argento is Suspiria because it has many mistakes in the plot.

I just need to see this film. I watched Profondo Rosso and Suspiria yesterday and I'm really in love with the work of this director. Great eye for camera views, lighting, colours... And unique horror film soundtracks to top it off! And I love the sudden endings Dario creates, he leaves all the "useless" stuff out.
Pupukummu 3 years ago
Pupukummu, since you are from Finland, I can tell you that you can rent Tenebre from nearly any Videofirma Makuuni-store in this country. Go get it! =)
Joorum 3 years ago
Hmmm... have to check it out, but I still have some kind of a collector syndrome, I just need to get it for myself.
Pupukummu 3 years ago
Hehe, you're the same as me! If I don't own it, I've never seen it! =)
If you want it on DVD, I could recommend the Anchor Bay tin box set with 5 films (Tenebre included).
