Same chords as There is a Light That Never Goes Out by the Smiths, Kele even sings "Take me out tonight in the second verse", still think it's damn cool that the band wear the inspiration on their sleeve.
if they do make another record, they better look back at this shit. Their electro stuff was interesting but they've not done anything near as intense since silent alarm. 6 years on this song still kills all other post-punk revival
@MikeMcCub completley agree dude. theres nothing wrong with a band evolving and progressing, thats whats natural and you should want, but their real skill and talent lies in this kind of hungry guitar music. they all seemed to get a bit apathetic and almost unappreciative of their achievements, so you're completley right- they need to see videos lke this where they properly wanted it and get back that hunger, i think album number 4 could be a fucking beast if they stick to their indivudal skills
it's somethin wonderful this song, the verses which convey a sense of asphyxiation and discontent, and then that chorus with such an incredible desire of freedom...
That's not all though, whether it's Florence and the machine, Mumford and Sons or countless others, we have all the exclusive interviews and live gigs...
I understand that, but please...do yourself a favor and Google in quotation marks, "Take me out tonight", and the word "lyrics" without the quotation marks in the search, and just see how many bands use that lyric. It's almost unreal.
@ilovekeleokereke I'm not sure you can so easily say that the smiths were their main influence. They have a lot they draw on artistically. Interpol, anyone?
3:20 onwards is just absolutely mindblowing, the riff, the timing, the rythm, how well they all sync together is just absolutely perfection. Always have been, always will be my favourite band of all time. Please come back. Music isn't the same without you.
@kernzzi I dont know about that. I was trying to stay optimistic about it, but it seems as though kele has no plans on getting back with bloc party. In a recent interview he actually bashed the album Silent Alarm said that he actually hates it. He said that he can't even bare to listen to some of the songs on the other albums as well. I don't know, but a lot of what kele has been saying lately makes it seem like he's ashamed of being associated with this band. He doesn't even own the albums
@bloc22 I haven't seen this interview, but alot of artists don't like to reflect back on their work. Most musicians don't own their own albums, it would actually be kind of conceited if they loved their own work. The guitarist from Phoenix put it best, when being asked does he listen to Phoenix albums he said "No, just like I don't look at myself in the mirror all the time." Maybe I'm just hoping they'll come off hiatus.
Years ago when I first played Silent Alarm with sub-woofer on, Matt Tong's drums just blew my brains out (and haven't got them back yet). Wow. When I'd get reborn to Baker as dad and Moon as bro, marry me, Matt, or put the band together again (yes, I'm blackmailing you).
Thier drummer Matt Tong is amazing. It's like he's superhuman or something. Better than Matt Helders from Artic Monkeys though? Hmm, discuss. Bloc Party were pretty amazing. Be nice if they got back together.
@richievegas01 I'm not being a downer but isn't Russel in another band Ash? They're touring. PLEASE GET BACK TOGETHER BLOC PARTY!!!! I LOVE YOU MATT TONG!! Sorry XD
everything just feels so right in this song! the bass the drums and the guitar in the beginning is fucking sick!!!bloc party can i be your groupie!!?!?! :DD

This live version is indescribably amazing. The vocal delivery on the coda is powerful and emotional. This has always been my favorite Bloc Party song. The way Kele can mute four separate strings while playing that fast and changing chords is hard for me to fathom. I would take this musical style over anything they did after 'Two More Years'. Kele's hair looks better long too.
