@danAWESOMEcollier I guess it was just a fancy dress hiring shop - you just borrowed the costumes and returned them. I just wished, as a kid, that I could just stand there and my clothes would change automatically like his seemed to do! I'd have loved that! Didn't have the best coordination as a kid and some clothes were fiddly to put on!
any wonder why Mr Ben was the name on this Kids Show ?? i thought it should of been Mr Tightarse or Mr Shoplifter as Mr Ben always tried it on & left without PAYING for it until the shopkeeper caught up with him saying heres the door & should of said i the Police are here to see you !!
Just thought I would watch this to get that cosy feeling especially as I went to an exhibition of the actual Mr Benn animation artwork in London they also had Danger Mouse..but Mr Benn ahhhhh what a fantastic programme it was.
Crikey! I dont believe its 9am on a Friday morning, and Im watching Mr Benn, Im supposed to be working... Ah! happy days, if only I were that young kid again instead of being 50.... :-) I loved watching Mr Benn
This tune.......just makes me want to curl up on the sofa, with Mr Bear and a cup of hot milk, Mum's voice drifting through from the kitchen....rain pattering on the window, warm and safe, not a care in the world, about five years old. Why do we have to grow up.
These days the Communist Zionist traitors who run Britain wouldnt allow a symbol of imperialism like the pith helmet to appear on there unless it was to denegrate our ancestors. In fact two thirds of the faces on that wheel would have to be non-European. And they would probably stick some sexualisation and homosexuality in there for good measure,
Mr Benn was the worst customer ever, he never bought anything just tried on costumes in the changing room then got high in there and had a little adventure then gave the asian shopkeeper his costume back and went home. No wonder the shopkeeper always had an eye on him, I'd have banned his ass from the shop
You've just gotta love the internet for helping out with random thoughts. It must be close to 40 years since i thought about this programme, and then a quick google later, as if by magic, Mr Benn appears!
i used to get well pissed of if i saw the sea saw that was on before showing you what 2 programs was about to be on and mr benn or king rolo was on it . but if i saw it and both mr benn and king rolo was on i would be over the moon
@christhecoolboy alas it's 4 stories from the old show. But Mr Mckee is in my shop quite a bit now, and I keep bugging him to some new Mr Benn stuff, so fingers crossed ;)
Just got given a limited edition book set of Mr Benn by David Mckee himself, bloody marvellous. I grew up watchin this show and will always love his artwork. The books are amazing and packed full of his crazy but beautiful drawings.
@freddiewong007 Is it a new book? Do you think they'll make a special episode of it like they did in 2005 on Nick Jr. cause I really want the show back!!!
Good old Mr Benn! Does anyone know where to watch the full episodes? Discover and tweet about your favourite childhood tv shows @childhoodtv on twitter.
Thinking about it now, Mr Benn really was stange! He wore a stiff suit and a bowler hat and went to the shop up the road run by a strange man to wear cowboy and indian outfits. I shudder to think what happens in the directors cut!!
They would not be allowed to play cowboys and indians now, health and safety and it would be non pc as it should now be somehting like North American indginus people etc etc, oh waht a mad world today is, anyway kids today would sooner be on the x box rather than playing in the street
Mr Benn was created by David Mckee, the same man who created Elmer and I hate my teddy bear. Mr Benn's neighbour looks like Ringo Starr because David Mckee lived near where the Beatles lived.
@Richie979 The narrator is Ray Brooks. He starred in a BBC series called 'Big Break' about a struggling gambler. I believe he's been in recent episodes of Eastenders too.
Running home from primary school at lunchtime to watch this in the 1970s
There are some things that just hit that spot at the back of your throat, and bypass all those layers and barriers you build up through those cynical years, reminding you once again what it was like to be happy, carefree and innocent. It's a humbling and somewhat painful experience; to wish those years back again.
i was looking for the name of this for years. i used to watch it when i was younger but couldnt remember the name. same with camberwick green. after a hell of a lot explaining to my mother she remembered their names haha
When I watched this intro, it immediately made me laugh because I SOOO remember this programme. He captured kids imaginations when he used to dress up and walk into different worlds. I used to wonder what he was going to be with antiipation when I watched it. My son who is nearly 8 would LOVE this!!!
i went out with this bird once who had a cheerleader outfit, a school girl outfit, a nurse's outfit and a french maid's outfit. She reminded me of Mr Benn
Actually he just got dressed and stood in the changing room, staring into the mirror, hallucinating the adventures. Then when he was 'done', he'd hand them back over and not buy anything.
The shopkeeper was a nice guy, he knew Mr.Benn and his issues, so he let him use a cubicle because it stopped him from wearing the skins of people he abducted.
Technically No IT HASN'T as he could well argue that he never intended to permanently deny the shop keeper of the garments...In other words BACK OF MR BENN! LOL.

I was raised watching Mr Benn, and as a Mum living in the States, I have introduced him to my son. Whenever we go on an'adventure' we bring home what we call 'a mr.benn thing!!!!"A beautuful an imaginative kid's show, such a shame that they only made a few!
