  • You can tell sbtbfanatic is a small dick honky, he whines about something that happened ages ago.

  • The blacks were disgraceful for giving their racist "black power" salute.

  • wonderful Tommie Smith

  • Athletic Performance starts from Signals sent from the Brain relayed to the Nervous System and onto the Muscles. Physical Feats are a result of Focus Mind and Body as one. Hmm Superior Brains???

God made Horses much Faster than Donkeys lol

  • That dude's all legs!

  • @TheEctomorph Hey you a fan of history well if so there will be a new film out next month November 11TH about FBI Director J.Edgar Hoover starring Leonardo DiCaprio hope they covered everything about him.He was no ally of the civil rights movement. He was a closet homosexual as well as a crossdresser and dabbled in pedophilia.

  • @dal4018 Thank you for that information, sir. I will go and see that film when it is released in Great Britain - which may not be until the early part of next year.

By the way, did J.Edgar Hoover purport to believe that gay people did not deserve to have the same civil rights as heterosexual folk? If so, then it could be argued - not without some justification - that the man was a hypocrite, who pretended to be something that he was not.

  • @TheEctomorph CAN YOU SAY HYPOCRITE THIS MAN WORE WOMEN'S CLOTHING HE PUT VICTORIA'S SECRET ON THE MAP!!!!!

  • @TheEctomorph YOU TELL HIM!!

  • @sciencestudent342 Sir: Are you threatening with me with physical violence, just because I have 'posted' comments on You Tube that you don't like? I do hope not.

  • [Continuing on from my previous 'posts' about the prevalence of performance-enhancing drugs in athletics]: exact (or even approximate) percentage of current international track and field athletes who break the rules by using illegal performance-enhancing drugs, but if I were a betting man - which I am not - I would be prepared to wager a considerable sum that the figure is WAY higher than 20%.

  • [Continuing on from my previous 'posts' about the prevalence of performance-enhancing drugs in athletics]: example of an honest athlete, who never used illegal performance-enhancing 'persian rugs' during his lengthy and very distinguished career in track and field.

That said, the fact remains that the abuse of anabolic steroids - and other banned performance-enhancing substances - is a very real problem in the world of international athletics today. It is not for me to speculate as to the

  • [Continuing on from my previous 'post' about the prevalence of performance-enhancing drugs in athletics]: are clean, and abide by the rules and regulations laid down by the !AAF and IOC. I have made it crystal clear that I consider Usain Bolt (the current world record holder for the men's 100 and 200m sprints) to be a clean athlete. I have also made a number of positive comments about Michael Johnson (the 400 metres world record holder) on You Tube. I strongly believe that he is another

  • [Coninuing on from my previous 'post' about the prevalence of perfomance-enhancing drugs in athletics]: abuse of anabolic steroids - and other illicit performance-enhancing substances - by international athletes has virtually been eradicated by improvements in testing procedures. What utter nonsense! What a pathetic point of view.

I have repeatedly expressed the view [on 'You Tube' discussion boards, such as this one] that many of the world's most successful and prominent athletes

  • @TheEctomorph i dont need any evidence u moron, it takes a retard like u to think these days they will dare take PEDs with so much tessting and liklihood to get caught (i.e. balco and numerous other isolated incidents post millenium) and those days with little-to-no testing they wouldnt have taken a few winstrols a day (which was developed a couple of years before these olympics). ure well spoken and everything, but u sure r dumb lol...please dont contact me anymore, i will block ur account

  • @sciencestudent342 PED drug taking among elite athletes is, in all probability, considerably more prevalent and widespread today than it was at the time of 1968 Olympics, you t***.

I may not be one of Britain's most knowledgeable athletics pundits ... but at least I don't use The Internet to make malicious, unfounded (and probably libellous) comments about great Olympic champions of the past.

You have the nerve to label ME as a retard, and yet you express the incredibly naive view that the

  • @sciencestudent342 Sir: I refer to your comment: "I don't need any evidence u moron." I presume that, by that remark, you mean that you think you have the right to say that certain athletes are drug cheats just because you happen to have a feeling or "hunch" that their performances were not achieved merely through a combination of natural talent and hard work.

Are you not familiar with the old legal adage: "A MAN (OR WOMAN) IS INNOCENT UNTIL PROVEN GUILTY"? If you are familiar with it, then

  • @sciencestudent342 [Continuing on from my previous 'post' about people who condemn athletes as "drug cheats" without evidence]: obviously you have no respect for it whatsoever.

Oh, and just one more thing, sir: You mentioned in one of your previous 'contributions' to this You Tube discussion board that you "have nothing against steroids". If that is the case, then that just serves as further evidence to support my belief that you are an immoral person, with the wrong set of values.

  • @sciencestudent342 [Continuing on from my previous 'posts' about people who condemn athletes as "drug cheats" without evidence]: In my considered opinion, sir, no true fan of athletics would make the sort of comments that you have made on 'You Tube' discussion boards of late.

  • @TheEctomorph Number 2: no one thought "the great" carl lewis was on anything, it was all ben johnson blah blah, when others aronund him were doping, only years later did the truth surface, same with the eastern block, so dont gimme some crap about it unfounded, there been proven dopers since the 70s, i am just extrapolating back a little because steroids were available for a long time before this, and all i ive done is expressed my opinions based on liklihood and mathematical extrapoloation...

  • His stride is Very Sic!

  • wouldnt be surprised if carl lewis studied all the footage on tommie smith

  • @TheMrBennito Could you have blamed him if he did watching a legend???????

  • @dal4018 oh if u mean there s more than 1 reason to study this footage, i fully agree.. i referred here to smith' running technique and style

  • @TheMrBennito Yes that is exactly what I meant studying Smith's technique he made passing Carlos look way to easy

  • @TheMrBennito I wouldn't be surprised, either. 'Smithy' was one of the all-time great sprinters - at the 200 metres distance, at any rate. (He also happened to be a very accomplished quarter-miler - unlike Mr Lewis.)

  • just remember when winstrol came out guys, first lean muscle gainer with super strength increasing effects....enough said...still tho these days they got even stronger shit, pro training, etc etc etc so 19.8 with hands in the air is still fuckin fast and also i have nothing against steroids.

  • Just look at Tommy Smith running. Can anyone seriously tell me that the sight of him running does not remind you of a baboon running? I'm not being racist, I'm just asking all of you whether black people running on a track doesn't bear any semblance to baboons running in the forest?

  • @ilovehornyslags not really lol

  • @ilovehornyslags Sir: I refer to your pointed comment (and I quote): "Just look at Tommy Smith running. Can anyone seriously tell me that the sight of him running does not remind you a baboon running?"

What an unpleasant, offensive and stupid remark. Yet you claim in your 'post' that you are not a racist. All I can say to that is: "Yeah, right."

  • @TheEctomorph I've been reading some of your other comments, about Sebastian Coe an Steve Ovett. I like how you refer to me as "Sir" and to Coe and Ovett as "Mr." Coe and "Mr." Ovett. You truly are a snobbish fucking prick, aren't you?

  • @ilovehornyslags No, I am not a snobbish prick, as a matter of fact. I am an ordinary, working-class chap, with no 'airs and graces' ... and I couldn't talk in a 'posh' upper-middle class accent (like Mr Cameron) even if I wanted to.

You, sir, have shown urself to be a person with unpleasant, racialist attitudes. That pointed remark you made about Tommie Smith earlier this year was highly offensive and disrespectful (as well as being senseless). Are you a chav, by any chance?! Lol.

  • @TheEctomorph please have some mercy on him, he just saw too many National Geographic series

  • @ilovehornyslags You got to be kidding me you say your not racist but you compare a great man like Tommie Smith with a baboon.GET A LIFE YOU MORON!!!!!!!!!!

  • @dal4018 Well said, sir; well said indeed. That guy who calls himself "ilovehornyslags" is an annoying, provocative b******, so he is. In fact, judging by that vile remark which he made about Tommie Smith - which was WAY out of order and totally untrue - he is just another one of those boring and intensely irritating Internet 'trolls'.

Oh, and btw, I very much doubt whether that muppet ["ilovehornyslags] is as much of a lothario/womaniser as his 'service user' name implies !!

  • @TheEctomorph Your welcomed sir that guy in your own polite way your refered to him as a wannabee when it came to the opposite gender?

  • Comment removed

  • @dal4018 Yes, that's right ! That guy who uses the 'service user' name "ilovehornyslags" is probably a bit of a dreamer - a bit of a fantasist - when it comes to the pleasures of the flesh, as it were. I'm not saying that he is a virgin ... but I very much doubt whether he is a macho superstud/lothario, either.

  • @TheEctomorph He needless to say has issues

  • @dal4018 Yes, indeed he does ... and so does that churlish, obnoxious git who calls himself "sciencestudent342". A few days ago, he accused me of "stalking" him online, merely because I have responded - in a critical manner - to several comments and opinions that he has 'posted' on You Tube.

The science student to whom I refer - if he really is studying a science subject - has made it crystal clear (on this You Tube discussion board) that he condones the use of anabolic steroids by

  • @TheEctomorph Needless to say this guy's a racist right sir?

  • @dal4018 Well, that toss-pott who uses the name "ilovehornyslags" is definitely a racist. I don't think that "sciencestudent342" is racist, though; he appears to be a fan of the controversial British sprinter of the 1980s and '90 - Mr Linford Christie.

I have issues/problems with "sciencestudent342" because of his attitudes towards anabolic steroids. He appears to believe that the abuse of these powerful 'persian rugs' (by people who compete as international athletics) is perfectly

  • @TheEctomorph Okay point taken he needs to talk with LYLE ALZADO oops sorry about that he can't talk anymore HE IS DEAD!!!!!!!!!

  • @dal4018 [Continuing on from my 'post' about the gentleman who calls himself "sciencestudent342]: acceptable. In my view, that attitude is WRONG. Pure and simple. No 'ifs' or 'buts'.

Another thing - about that chap called "sciencestudent342" - that I object to is his RUDENESS. He has subjected me to all sorts of insults and churlish remarks (on 'You Tube' discussion boards) of late ... and, what is more, the sad b*****d has even had the audacity to accuse me of "stalking" him online.

  • @dal4018 [Continuing on from my previous post about "sciencestudent342"] international athletes.

This man - "sciencestudent342" - has used words and phrases which suggest that he has an above average IQ, but his attitude towards performance-enhancing 'persian rugs' (and other banned substances) is unacceptable and immoral, IMHO.

  • @TheEctomorph It amazes me how ppl like him try to hide their racist tendencies threw something natural as science.

  • @TheEctomorph Hey next time you hear from that "college graduate" play this for him v=KutXyPEEbQs

  • amazing speed and so relaxed, think he would have run about 19.56,which is amazing for that era...even more then michael johnsons 200 record.bolt is on steroids

  • @auggdogrules if steroids showed up in the mandatory testing, bolt would be banned in a heart beat...you prat!

  • @sonofhendrix [Continuing on from my previous 'post' about Usain Bolt]: passed each and every one of those tests.

I firmly believe that the 6 foot 5" Jamaican is a clean athlete who abides by the rules laid down by the International Association of Athletics Federations. I also believe that he is (probably) the greatest and most naturally talented sprinter that has ever lived on God's Earth.

  • @TheEctomorph I see you've got a great knowledge of this sport, I will submit my view to you that IMHO Bob Hayes would give a peak-shape Bolt a close run for his money

  • @bossofalltimeSir: I don't disagree with your assessment of Bob Hayes. He was a phenomenal sprinter in his prime. Indeed, in my humble opinion, he was the greatest and most naturally gifted sprinter that has ever lived ...... with one POSSIBLE exception: a 6 foot 5" Jamaican speedster by the name of Usain Bolt.

It is such a pity that "Bullet" Bob never had the opportunity to compete on one of those super-fast, 'magic carpet' tracks that are available to the top sprinters of today.

  • @bossofalltime Well, thank you for the compliment, sir; it is very much appreciated. I can assure you, however, that my knowledge of track and field athletics is not outstanding, by any means. I am no Peter Matthews, Mel Watman or David Miller.

  • @auggdogrules That is a very cynical remark, which - in my view - is way out of order. Have you never heard of the old legal adage: "A MAN (OR WOMAN) IS INNOCENT UNTIL PROVEN GUILTY"? If you have heard of it, then clearly you have no respect for it whatsoever.

May I remind you, sir, that Mr Bolt has been tested for illegal, performance enhancing drugs on a immense number of occasions since he first broke the 100 metres world record (in the June of 2008) and he has

  • met this amazing man today at his invitaional.was so honored to run in his meet!

  • BLACK POWER!

  • They all have HUGE bujumburas between their legs and they can swing from tree to tree !!!

  • @randomperson331 Judging from your channel page, I take it that you are one of them and that you have a huge bujumbura? How long does it get when you see a sexy woman? 1 foot? 2 feet?

  • @ilovehornyslags Mister, you are an asshole. If you think that, that moronic comment is at all funny or amusing, then presumably you have an IQ which is roughly on a par with that of the average gorilla.

  • @TheEctomorph hey can u tell ur tranny lover to stop messaging me, i think hes gettin lonely

  • @TheEctomorph It is scientifically true that nignogs have big bujumburas between their legs, and it is also a fact that nignogs are genetically closer to apes than to humans. ALL the fastest men on earth have been nignogs. Tommie Smith, Carl Lewis, Calvin Smith, James Ray Hines (first man to go sub 10 sec), Maurice Greene, Usain Bolt. The reason for their phenomenal speed is that their ancestors in Africa had to run away from lions and cheetahs and wildebeest, which Europeans never had to do.

  • In 66 Smith ran a 19.5 200 on a straight. His 100 between 50 meters and 150 meters was under 9. He also ran some amazing 400s mid 44s I think. Powerful athlete regardless politics.

  • I'm a white sprinter and I have no problems to admit the fact that the average black sportman is faster than the white one, you only have to watch an NBA game to realize.

  • I'm a black coach who has a majority of white sprinter and the hardest thing to do is to get them passionate about being their best. It seems to me everytime I find a TALENTED white sprinter some yahoo at the next level wants to turn them into an 800m runner. I simply believe that if you work hard and have the passion and are athletic....you can become a sprinter no matter what your color. I also belive NO CLEAN human can go much faster than 9.9 or 9.89...everyone who did imo has CHEATED....

  • @fadarrell I pretty much agree, certainly about white sprinters. I think it's a mental thing. Now that the Frenchman has gone under 10 seconds I think you'll see a lot more. Bannister broke 4 minutes for a mile in May '54, something athletes had been trying for decades; I think he ran 3:59.7. The very next month Landis did 3:57.9. I'm suspicious of Usain Bolt. Like Griffiths-Joyner the improvements have been too large and too sudden. I just hope he doesn't end up like she did.

  • @fadarrell Good to hear comment on the issue of drugs from someone with vast experience for once. Puts some perspective on the chunks being lopped off the 100m record since 1999.

  • @fadarrell

I'm not a coach, but I've always believed the same. No one who has gone under 9.90, and certainly under 9.80, has been clean.

  • @uhmfar bingo!!!!!

  • @uhmfar Even "King Carl"

  • @dal4018 even king carl......

  • @fadarrell No one has proven this about Carl being dirty how would you if you had the opportunity?

  • @dal4018 I can't prove it....its all out of his system by now....hook him up to a lie detector maybe.....but I still say 9.9 9.8 = messing wit da drug.....

  • @fadarrell If that is the case then add the newest sensation to this list as well France's Christophe LeMaitre he ran 9.98 and 9.97 last summer

  • @fadarrell What drug was KING CARL using while in his prime?

  • n@dal4018 not a clue....

  • @fadarrell If you don't know what illegal drug Carl Lewis was using in his prime them why would you say he did use them if you have no proof?

  • @dal4018 if you follow this thread you will read that I wrote it was imo in my opinion.....its my opinion that is based on an educated guess......I also mentioned that I have no proof but you seem to want to argue about it or start an internet debate....I am not interested in either.....have a nice day.

  • @fadarrell Okay agree if its just your opinion what did you base it on that you felt Lewis ran dirty he always tested clean.

  • @dal4018

He took stimulants and should have been banned from the 88 seoul games. stimulants are no doubt a performance enhancing drug. there are documents of it out there a letter stating he was dirty. see the movie bigger, stronger faster.

  • @TheAngeltoDemon No one had brought forth any evidence to say Lewis was a cheat

  • @dal4018

This should open your eyes. Good movie, it's all on youtube, you should watch it.

watch?v=3rvMlHkLm3M&feature=related see 1:25min mark. He took stimulants, several of them, then watch him stumble in his response as well. He should have been disqualified from the 88 olympics. Calvin Johnson should have gotten the 100m gold, ben johnson, carl, and linford were all dirty.

  • @TheAngeltoDemon Okay demon I'll watch

  • @TheAngeltoDemon Very informative thanks

  • @dal4018 No problem, great documentary, very informative while capturing drama and embellished with alot of humor, the whole movie is good, if you have the time, you should check it out. I've been around high level sports for some time. The reality is, given the demands of the game and the competition, it's almost a necc evil. Esp in track and field, where winning is everything and the margin of error is so small. Glad you enjoyed. What do you make of jamaican dominance these days?

  • @TheAngeltoDemon Yes very informative told others about it waiting for a response

  • @fadarrell Okay point taken

  • @uhmfar ... in your humble opinion. I happen to strongly disagree with that cynical view - and, more to the point, so do many people who know a great deal more about athletics than I do: Michael Johnson, for one.

  • @fadarrell Then you should coach them instead what college are you at currently?

  • To any and all that may be curious the name of the third American sprinter is Larry Questad and he was a NCAA champ in '63 from Stanford in the 100m.

  • Comment removed

  • Peter Norman - Australian !!!

  • @eugenius101 No way the guy's name was Larry Questad and this guy was a NCAA Champion sprinter from STANFORD NO LESS IN '63

  • Comment removed

  • Comment removed

  • @dal4018 ok here is the correct answer finally LARRY QUESTAD, who finished 6th with a time of 20.62....

  • @fadarrell Darrell thanks already had the info a friend told me but thanks again for telling me.Hey what do you think of track's newest sprint sensation Christophe LeMaitre and him making history running his 9.98 in the 100m last month.I jokingly told a friend that I referred to him as the "Elvis Presley" of this sport.A white guy coming along and doing something that black sprinters did before he was born.

  • @dal4018 I hope he gives the other white athletes inspiration to do just the same.....stick with their passion and become great sprinters.

  • @fadarrell Same here Darrell hope he improves on his 9.97 down to 9.91 again he I think needs to cahnge his training regimin and add some 400m style workouts to add strength as well as speed. It worked for Tyson Gay he ran a pr of 44.89 last summer. Not saying he's has that type of ability but it wouldn't hurt to try maybe he could run a mid 45 400m.

  • Smith blew by Carlos as if he were standing still the last 40-50 meters.

  • @dal4018 Well, that may be a bit of an exaggeration, but I take your point. Smithy was an athlete who possessed a phenomenal level of speed endurance (as well as a high degree of pure speed). In that respect, he was reminiscent of Michael Johnson ...... or perhaps it would be more accurate to say that Michael Johnson was reminiscent of Tommie Smith (seeing that Smithy was competing in top class athletics about a quarter of a century before Johnson rose to prominence as a track star).

  • @TheEctomorph Hey that is no exaggeration to me its as if he looked at a invisible watch then said GOOD BYE!!!!!!!

  • @scuster45 Thank you SCUSTER as I told Finn they brought attention to what black americans have the "pleasure" of dealing with in this country when it comes to race relations.I remember a young Brent Musberger saying that they(Carlos&Smith) looked like two black storm troopers on the medal stand for what they did.MORE POWER TO THESE TWO GREAT MEN FOR WHAT THEY DID SMITH&CARLOS 4EVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Awesome movie! Im a 68 Olympian collecting photos and movies from all my teammates to assemble on to DVDs for everyone, and we would be absolutely thrilled to have permission from you to include a copy of your movie in our 68 Olympic Team Photoshare Project DVDs! Please click reply to my comment here if this would be POSSIBLE or NOT possible, THANK YOU!

  • @CheckAvai1abi1ity Hey CheckAvail I think a full length feature film should be done about these two men.

  • Never, never, never forget Peter Norman, the Australian who came 2nd. He wore a badge in support of these two great men and his country turned its back on him. Unfortunately he died a few years ago, Carlos and Smith were his pallbearers. RIP.

  • @gnarkillkicksass Yes Gnarls don't forget that man Peter Norman he supported them in the hour of courage.RIP to a great man Peter Norman.

  • @gnarkillkicksass Mr Norman was indeed a very, very fine sprinter. His time in the 200 metres final at the Mexico City Olympics was 20.06. I think I am correct in saying that, back in 1968, that was the fastest time ever recorded by an IC1 ("white") man. Even today - 43 years on from the '68 Olympics - there are very few white sprinters who have beaten that time. Off the top of my head, I can only name three: Mennea, Borzov and Lemaitre.

  • @SillyGrandpa Hey Grandpa you must not know about Charles Drew,Thurgood Marshall both men were intellectual giants. One was a Supreme Court Judge and the other was Scientist who created Blood Plasma.

  • @SillyGrandpa Hey Grandpa you must not know about Charles Drew,Thurgood Marshall both men were intellectual giants.

  • great

  • Aryan....whatever. You`re so stupid. The best ever was Pelé. Not white exactly.

  • aryan shite ss - if by gold, you meant golf - and that people of african descent can't play then your just a fucking dumbass - Mr. Woods will have something to say about that, I'm white and black people have spring muscle genetics to quicker and stronger.

  • you mean like basketball, football etc? dumb ass.

  • lol... I guess blacks dont play hockey, Soccer, Baseball, Gold, Tennis and the list goes on ... We even had a black swimmer in the last olympics... hahahahahah

  • SO i guess you dont consider Brazilians of African Descent black... Or those from france such as theirry Henry.. And they had a black guy on the last relay team with Michael Phelps (Cullen Jones) Do ur research before u spew out garbage!!!!

  • haha they cut out the bronze white sprinter Peter Norman...

  • silver white sprinter

  • oh my b im meant silver lolz

  • he came to my school Acland Burghley UK 2008

  • Smith was Bolt 40 years earlier!

  • Ha I know ehh !

  • @dubasher Yes DUBASHER HE WAS BOLT 4 DECADES EARLIER!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @dubasher Hey Dubasher I just came from Tommie Smith's website in his prime he HELD 11 WR MARKS SIMOULTANEOUSLY AND AS A COLLEGIAN HE HELD OR BROKE 13 WR MARKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! THAT IS THE EQUIVALENT OF BILL RUSSELL 'S 11 NBA TITLES IN 13 SEASONS.

  • @dubasher Smith was "elegant"!

  • Smith played for the 1969 Cincinati Bengals, one of the assistant coaches...Bill Walsh

  • "...black American sprinters." When's the last time you heard anything like THAT? Was this '68 or '36? I am startled to be reminded how systemic racism was back then.

  • the word 'black' denotes racism? Please, this is not the platform for politics thank you very much!

Let's talk about Obama's 'typical white person' comment if you want to go there, "brother".

  • They are black and they are sprinters, no racism intended, just facts

  • @highhurdles Back in 1968 - only 43 years ago - respected British television presenters/commentators were still referring to Tommie Smith, John Carlos and Jim Hines as "negro American sprinters". Now I am not a great fan of Political Correctness - particularly when it is taken too far - but I must admit that I was quite shocked (3 years ago) when I watched some vintage footage of the 1968 Olympic Games, and I heard a well-known British athletics commentator use the term "negro American

  • @highhurdles [Continuing on from my previous 'post' about inappropriate terms for sprinters of Afro-Caribbean origin]: sprinters". That said, I do not believe for one moment that the commentator in question was/is a racialist ... but the fact remains that, back in 1968, British society still was blighted by what you might call institutional racism, and consequently, negative terms like "negro" - and even "darkie" - were widely used (even by decent, fair-minded people who had nothing against

  • @highhurdles [Continuing on from my previous 'posts' about inappropriate terms for sprinters of Afro-Caribbean origin]: people whose skin colour happened to differ from their own). Thank the Lord that Britain, as a society, has moved on from those days of the late 1960's - in terms of its attitudes towards people of different ethnicity.

  • how fast would tommie have ran had he not rasised his hands for the final 5-10 meters.

  • Ooh tough question. I'd say around 19.75. He didn't ease down too much, but running without an arm drive will slow you somewhat especially at the end of a race.

  • I think its more like a 19.6 if he didn't slow down. I know a lot of old sprinters from the Central Valley and Bay Area who ran against Smith. It's their feeling that he was capable of getting into the 19.6s and if he had had a full career down, eventually, into the 19.5s

  • he really didn't slow down like you would in a qualifying round, the turnover remains and you're not going to lose two tenths in little over 10m. I agree with you that had he had a full career 19.6 would definitely have been run by him. Him and Carlos vs Borzov in Munich 1972 would've been a great race

  • He and John Carlos did a very stupid thing when they got their medals. Showing black power to the whole world !

Did they know really that they will be hardly punished after that ?

  • @FinnMove Hey they did that power salute to show the world what black americans had the pleasure of dealing with in the USA.Mistreament because of something as simple as skin color.

  • @bossofalltime It certainly would have been. I am inclined to think that, in terms of pure natural ability, Smithy was marginally superior to Borzov as a 200 metres runner (but not at the shorter sprint distance). Having said that, that doesn't necessarily mean that the great American sprinter would have beaten the Ukranian speedster over 200 metres in 1972 - 4 years is a long time in sport, and if Smithy had had the opportunity to compete in the Munich Olympics, he might not have been able

  • @bossofalltime [Continuing on from my previous post about Tommie Smith and Valeriy Borzov]: to replicate the vintage form that he had produced at the Mexico City Olympics in a slightly earlier era.

I certainly think that, up until the year 1979 or thereabouts, Tommie Smith and Valeriy Borzov had the right to be considered the two greatest 200 metres sprinters in the history of track and field athletics.

  • @drkthms1 I'm thinking 19.68, but tbh i don't really think he cared. Winning it was reward enough and the record was a bonus. Records don't last forever but he'll always be an olympic champion.

  • @drkthms1 Hey maybe 19.6 or 19.7 who knows.

  • @drkthms1 possibly 0,02...0,03 seconds, not more... the legs were still working hard... pretty much as Bolt's legs in Beijing celebration race... but still you need good balance to raise your hands and keep running at that speed, because lactate has an effect on legs even in 200m...

  • @drkthms1 19.68 im guessing

  • @drkthms1 how much running did he hands do??

  • @drkthms1 It is impossible to say with 100% certainty. But it is entirely reasonable to speculate that he would have returned a time of 19.79 (at the very least). Smithy was an awesome athlete, and his speed-endurance was remarkable. He was a great 400m runner (as well as a superlative 200m sprinter) when he was young and in his prime ..... but I am pretty sure that he never fulfilled his full potential as a quarter miler. His PB (for 400m) was 44.5 ... if memory serves.

  • In this case it's black & white, man

  • I read in a very recent SI article ("Where are they now?") that John Carlos and Tommie Smith do not get along. Apparently, it stems from a statement that John Carlos made saying that he allowed Smith to win the race.

  • but he came third?- did he let peter norman (a white guy), come second too?...what a lovely gesture.

  • I'm glad the ESPy awards cleared this myth-up. People, had been trying to pull them aways, but Sunday night they proclaimed that they would always be close!

  • John Carlos was the best sprinter in the world, but he really blew this race. He broke stride, form, rythmn, concentration, everything and then quit near the end and let the Aussie beat his ass for second.

  • 3nd place John Carlos is now saying he let Mr Smith win..

  • This is how gossip starts, Where do you see John Carlos saying that?? No prove, no videos. Just he says, she says, they say.

  • Carlos had stated this in many interviews. He says that he turned and was saying to Tommie ''if you want this gold medal come and get it'' basically it was Carlos saying he literally gave Smith the win. Now Carlos did run 19.92 at US Olympic Trials final and Smith was like 3m behind, but in Mexico City Smith was a different animal and was clearly in 19.7 shape judging from how he ran in the final, and can't see Carlos beating him.

  • BEautiful!

  • The world is diverse and you're a racist.

  • The house is white but the power is BLAAACK!
