  • Hey, hahaha 7:41....an insane stunt fall just like in Jackie Chan movies..

  • the first jackass pioneers

  • Loving the first dude, "flight in the air" what, as opposed to on the ground?

  • I can only imagine the frustration of the people from this era. They were copying nature, using engines and rockets for assistance, flapping, running.... everything possible to fly but it just wasn't working. It may look funny for us to watch this (and it is!) but at the time they must have been kicking themselves as to why everything they do just doesn't work.

  • 3:13 that in genius, those could avoid so many railroad incedents today!!! why aren't we using them?

  • 0:57 DONT let her near your penis

  • 3:27 that looks bad ass, i want one.

  • ...evidently the ornithopters work only on a small scale - size of birds - with very, very lightweight bodies.

  • what music is it in the middle. whats the song called

  • Imagine if these men and women had had the chance to try the current wing-suit. What would they have given to experience the amazing design and the mind-blowing experience? Hell, if I would f*ing love to give it a try I can't imagine what the y would do.

  • Very impressive stuff.

  • Why didn't these people test their contraptions in secrecy first before inviting crowds and cameras to spectate?

  • @dpaanlka , I imagine it's because they craved attention more than they craved results.

  • Interesting use of music from Lost in Space.

  • Ya gotta bless these brave souls for trying so hard to become airborne.

Since those early times, the technology of flight has been perfected.

It's just a pity that airline coffee, and food, hasn't improved along with it ;) .

  • hahahahaaa, I bet in the future these devices will work! On the moon. With 1/6 gravity :) Or not, but I can see the moon used as a flying field with winged gliders or bikes with wings that will fly.

  • @PrincessStarGirl92 The moon has no air to be displaced by wings to produce lift.....

  • MyFootage website sells this footage in HD and all other formats

  • i laughed so hard at the first one

  • This is the original fail blog

  • loved it!!!

  • i love how the first guy, just hits the ground and doesnt stand up

in all seriousness, it's all thanks to these guys, we have what we have today :)

but u forgot to mention Abbas ibn Farnas, the first man to attempt flight.. but since ofcoarse there is no footage of him :D

  • ROFL

  • j'adore !! je suis plié de rire !! ^^

  • I'd like to say: "My god look at those morons". Yet, they deserve much better than that.

  • Lol that Train one was awsome need trains like that in our days :D

  • As others have said here, this is from a video called "Gizmos" I had a copy of on Beta in the early 1980s. I wish I could find a copy of it on DvD. Some of the stuff they did when people were still trying to figure out what machines could do is pretty hilarious. Some of the other stuff was just plain crazy.

  • this is very funny !!! xD

  • god must have been laughing so hard when man was figuring out flight.

  • at 9:17 he invented winglets!!

  • KKKKKKKkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkk...

  • Haha.. Dosent hurt

  • my god, this is hilarious. But this past also tells some thing more profound. Now seeing the beginning days of flight seems funny because the understandings of flight is obvious NOW, not back in those days. The next level of flight would be space travel, perhaps the experiments now in space travel is in same level as the flight experiments of the past, people 100 years from now would be laughing at our todays advanced rockets and space modules because then, to them the answer would be obvious

  • 0:39 is the best part

  • Most of these flight attempts actually too place in the 20's and 30's, several decades after the Wright Brothers.

  • 7:39 hahaha what was he thinking?!

  • 4:30 "a crash would meen failure"

driving out of the lot meens failure

  • All taken directly from a 1977 90 minute film called 'Gizmo'.

  • A couple of them had some ok ideas.... at 5.33... the flapping is more than just up-down. Clearly it's too heavy, not moving, not really flapping well etc but the motion is not bad - and at 8.15.... the guy needs a lot more speed and thrust in the air but the idea is in the right direction.... Cool video.

  • @sromag Yeah, the guy on the glider-bike at 8:15 definitely was closing in, he just had no way to keep propulsion going the instant he left the ground. He was way ahead of the crowd that poorly imitated bird shapes and actions having never seen them in slow motion (or apparently taking into account how light birds are compared to their wing strength).

  • Its a good job they invented the aerofoil.

A 747 flapping it's wings would cause multiple pile-ups on the ground, due to hysterical car drivers.

  • lol i think how much time did they spend on the projects, the thing is that they believe that they could really fly, nice video

  • They were really crazy!

  • there's some pretty amazing machines here. I would love to have that strange machine at 3:25

  • 5:47 to 5:54 fail!

  • They may be failures, and who can help but wondering what the hell they were thinking when they jump off ledges with nothing but boards tied to themselves, but here we sit over 100 years later still watching them. Who will be watching us 100 years from now?

  • @talshiarr

Agree with you 100%. Makes you wonder what they were thinking when they used clumpy materials to fly..... especially (as you say) from high ledges.

  • even leonardo da vinci knew this was impossible with man power alone

  • easy to mock these inventions but they had nothing to compare too. Imagine trying to build this when you have no idea what an airplane is. Or what its supposed to look like.

  • 7:44

    Early faceplant.

Machines are all mad genius. Beautiful.

  • it's weird, any person nowadays can look at something and tell almost instinctively if it'll fly or not... i know i can, it must be something we've developed from watching modern planes, because these people clearly lack that ability xD

  • rofl i cant believe i thought this was all real as a kid

  • IT is here ladies and gentlemen, that humanity realized how corrupt it would become and destroy the earth. So humanity had genes installed to prevent this from happening by making these people do insane things and try to get themselves killed. Obviously though, those genes failed. XD

  • very good!

  • 3:25 Steampunk AT-AT Imperial Walker XD

  • so much epic fail here.

  • Muito engraçado começo das invençoes...

  • The Ornithopter Will Fly

  • this shows that stupidity has been with humans thrueout the years

  • I understand that humanity didn't know about physics as much as today but hell, nevertheless this looks S.T.U.P.I.D. and I.N.S.A.N.E.

  • 7:40

    What that gonna accomplish?

  • These days humanity was trying to kill itself. Too bad it failed lol

  • Does anyone know who the girl hanging by her teeth actually was? I would be intrigued to know more about her career - if she survived long enough to have one.

  • @spitfireJEJ That's a circus performer called Tiny Kline crossing TImes Square in 1933. She worked for Barnum and Bailey and for Disney. She lived into her 70s in the 1960s.

  • From like 3:15 to 3:33 are not such bad ideas.

  • "Tri-phibian" was the best! "a crash would mean failure."

*Moves four feet, bursts into flames*

  • Is this real or not?

  • Does someone know the title of the orchestral music starting at 5:56?

  • rofl-thopters!

why do people try and build ornithopters instead of rigid wing aircraft! it's idiocy!

  • @pomeroy600287 Well, if it wasn't for these people, rigid wing aircraft may not have been invented. It takes a few errors to finally get things right. Even the first plane that actually flew could have looked a bit odd to observers until it took off and kept flying...

  • @d3xDark

Yeah, I suppose that's a good point. Also they drew their ideas from the only things that they knew could fly - birds (which flap wings, obviously)

  • @d3xDark Well then... hooray for idiots trying to fly without even stopping for a moment to consider studying the physics behind flying. Some of the first people to actually study the physics of flying where the Wright Brothers, therefore were the first to fly.

  • @pomeroy600287 GET A LIFE

  • @bixon100

Hey, yeah! You should have told that to the Wright Brothers as well, what with them wasting their time with crackpot inventions...

  • @pomeroy600287 if small ornithopters work then it's impossible for large scale ones not to work

  • @ishouldplayzelda

yes, but then the material properties need to be scaled up as well :P

  • Redbull flugtab LOL

  • 8:11 + = Nearly there!

  • LOL - 3:58 + = It's an early Fucking Machine!! - The girl on it, just hasn't quite figured out where to attach the rubber cock yet! :-D

  • these clips are from a pbs show entitled "gizmo", it was produced in the 70's and is downloaded on youtube. the entire show is great! check it out

  • what we do with are fun time like shoot ppl and smoke drugs they climbed buildings

  • That zip line girl has bigger nutz than me.

  • @EmperorOfMars she was on crack cocaine

  • She was hanging by her teeth!! F*ck that!

  • the first one is clearly satire because by the time this was recorded with sound flying-machines or aero-planes were already 30 years old. so yeah def a spoof

  • First flight attempts my ass, it should be called "GET THE HELL OUTTA MY WAY!" I'm gonna have to find out that flying boat at 3:05, talk about an airboat!

  • 3:14 - For a second I thought they were gonna combine and transform into a giant robot.

  • CLASSIC America's Funniest Videos :D

  • May be the best vid on YouTube! Just amazing!

  • 0:38 GOD THATS FUNNY! *crash*...FAIL!

  • the one at 9:12 might be very good as a wingsuit.

  • Some of the contraptions here are amazing - sure they don't work but it is great to see them all having a go.

  • 8:24 mega fail, just cause it looks like a bird does not mean it will fly

  • 7:44 lol

  • It's like a live action version of Wile E. Coyote's Acme experiments.

  • muy divertido

  • 8:20 c that guy running for his lifexD

  • the helicopter-boat at 3:08 is on display at the helicopter museum in weston-super-mare.

  • what's up with the guy on 7:40

  • that probably didnt end well.... 7:59

  • wtf does that have do do with flying XD

    2:54

  • my teacher showed us this video...awesome!! its hilarious :)

  • these guys never got off the ground, but they have been supplying laughs for almost 100 years! cheers to the unknown inventors!!!

  • this is from a pbs show called "gizmo" its downloaded here somewhere and has some great early newsreel stuff

  • dont you mean showed us this video

  • I don't wanna be disrespectful, but some of this guys remind me of Wile E. Coyote!!

    Honestly!!

  • Thanks for uploading this d3xDark!!!!

I've been looking this compilation for a veeeeeery long time man...

    This is amazing... thanks again.
